Up from Quarry car park, which was fine, but continuing on to the east was most certainly not, the paths being in an appallingly muddy (dangerously so) state.desperate dan20/03/2024
From Helsby quarry cp, up good path, on to Woodhouse hill down to Frodsham, over the motorway and back via Helsby marsh.Flatfield14/03/2024
Easy up and down from the Helsby Quarry nature reserve car park nearby. Up dead end road, then good path to rocky summit. The views are great for this size of the hill. Even on a grim day we could see the whole of the Liverpool skyline, across to Winter Hill and in the other direction to the Welsh hills. 66m ascent. A few people about.DanTrig19/10/2023
From the quarry car park west of hill. Good path and superb viewpoint on a lovely morning. Mist over the Mersey. Could be a song title.Campbell Singer01/09/2023

Free car park at Helsby Quarry. Signposted path to summit. Fabulous views. Solo.Dangerous Dave24/11/2022
From parking to SSW. With ARC and his dad. Good views to Liverpool with it's cathedral on the skyline. As bellringers, we have a particular affinity with the enormous central tower which houses the world's heaviest ring of bells for ringing in the English Style (heaviest bell 82 cwt).PGCE07/08/2022

A slow circuit around Helsby Hill from quarry car park.chriswatson08/05/2019
The steep Triassic sandstone cliffs here are popular with climbers (as I did 25 years ago on 2 visits) and popular for those seeking a good multi sensory view as from here you can see far and wide across The Mersey to Liverpool with its iconic Anglican and Roman Catholic cathedrals. Less popular you can, wind depending, smell the pong of Stanlow oil refinery, and hear the roar of the never quiet M56 flowing below. It was also popular here 200 million years ago with a carnivorous Chirotherium dinosaur which left its clawed footprint in the sand to be discovered by quarrymen. Future archeologists might have the excitement of discovering evidence of more recent visitors such as Sharon and Daz who have kindly left their names carved into the soft rock. For a special claim to fame you could arrive here by train alighting at nearby Stanlow and Thornton station which had only 92 passengers in 2017 (but beating Tesside Airport with 74!)Chris Pearson29/03/2019

Coming from Oswestry, you can see this hill (35 miles away) from certain locations on a clear day, including some good views from near Selattyn. I fancied getting the opposing view, so travelled to Chester Services for dinner and popped up her to enjoy the sunset, where many others were. What a spot. Incredible view of Liverpool, the Wirral and the stunning elevations of Wales. There had been a heather fire here the day before.tumpawumpa04/07/2018

6th and final hill of the day on a route from Tarporley to Helsby station, climbing Summerhouse Bank, High Bilinge, Pale Heights, Birch Hill and Woodhouse hill, dropping onto the North Cheshire way and following this to the top with fantastic views with Crepuscular rays defining the Clywdian Hills to the West and nearer the industrial chimneys of Runcorn. The Trig is green. I scrambled down slowly because of the very wet rocks, the aforementioned fissure (halfway point leads to a rocky platform)onto a footpath and followed this around before dropping more directly onto the streets below and winding my way to the station. A great day out in Cheshire West, 15 miles and 1004.60 metres of ascent/descent!Dazingdale04/03/2017
