With both the Spanners, from Radcliffe end of Outwood Trail, up through Hurst Woods.Alfa1M02/02/2024
As gerrybowes.clivevilla09/01/2024
From easy parking on Old Hall Road, NW on footpath alongside the A665 & then left down lane to wall corner - Through narrow gap between wall & fence post, and then a short climb over rough grass to high point against compound wall.gerrybowes27/10/2023
A wander around the wall. A wanderwall?summitter30/08/2022
Circuit of the reservoir citadel on snow covered ground in bright sunshine. Fine view S of Manchester skyline. Probably wishful thinking that the high point is outside the enclosure but that's the best we dare manage.RichardM11/04/2021

As per Wayne Mac. Pleasant countryside but summit area a bit conspicuous so didn't climb into fortified compound. With Mart.John Eley25/10/2020
Parked on Old Hall Lane. Followed road then turned right down the track, right again down the narrow track to the fenced field where a quick hop over the fence lands you at the topWayne Mac02/10/2020
1 of 3 on 42 mile bike ride following the outworks trail there was a small path that veered off to the right and uphill followed this upto copper lane then followed footpath upto fence area reservoir. Small gap in fence allowed to squeeze through to summit. SunnyThe-Z-Man24/03/2020

Parked on OLd Hall Lane and walked down the lane towards the kennels. Slipped through the gap between thw fence and wall (post must have loosened as I could squeeze thru without too much probem).Andrew Pearson26/12/2019
Pull in alongside the bus stop 300m to the west. Path alongside the road as far as the reservoir. Down the lane leading to the kennels and squeeze through the fence at the top of the reservoir. Summit in the field.moorsman08/03/2019
As Nick Down1David Evans19/02/2018
Drove up unclas rd towards kennels, parking at S corner of the reservoir compound. Highest natural point seems to be grassy area along SW side of compound. With Carole Engel on a Christmas day round of 13 hills and a pile of pillars.jonglew25/12/2017
I'm new to this hill bagging game. Wasn't sure how persistent I should be, so settled with getting as close as possible.Longwojo03/09/2017
From lane, through gap, as others. Good view from the top of the grassy mound.Moorponder03/07/2017
Parked on Old Hall Lane. Walked carefully through the gap between fence and wall, and circumperambulated the perimeter fence of Fort Mancs.Nick Down120/03/2017
2nd hill of three today all linked up by public transport. 1st i climbed Glade Wood Hill from Hopwood Hall courtesy of the 17 bus from Studehill and then took 163 bus to Bury interchange and took Metro to Whitefields walking along A662 before using bridleway Sw and then on Copper lane until i reached the compound. I resisted the temptation to climb the electrified fence and potential alarms and followed the route round to highest accessible point in fact i walked around twice just in case there was an obvious weak spot but no somebody else can play guinea pig and then let us know.Walked over to Radcliffe Metro station &took 468 bus to Fairfield hospital to climb Birtles Hill.Dazingdale07/01/2017
17.15 scramble up south side of wall of reservoir fortifications with concertina ladder to see if it might be possible to get in to see the trig. It wasn't.vegibagger30/12/2016
OS marker located within the Western corner of the compound. Very high security site, do not attempt to enter.JT15/07/2016
Parked in wrong Old Hall and ended up making a real meal of it. Best fortified summit I've ever come across. Better than most prisons.Campbell Singer03/06/2016
As for DanHolme.arranc01/04/2016
Parking and turning a problem on the wee lane. A good view.Play2End03/03/2016
Accidentally parked on Old Hall Road instead of Lane, but other than that took the same route as everyone else ;)the_adam08/12/2015
As Peter D . Bit of fat man's agony squeezing through end of fence. Good view of Manchester city centre .Mark Sims05/11/2015
Parked in Old Hall Lane and went round the wall.PeterD10/10/2015
A bit of a squeeze round the side to get to the highest point outside the security fencesTor worth it10/10/2015
Went up to high ground in field next to Godzilla-proof fencing, ripped trousers on barbed wire on climb out, which I suppose serves me right.DanHolme26/08/2015
Along rights of way from Old Hall Lane, over fence at start of Cattery drive and up field. With Oscar.catman18/08/2015

Parked in Old Hall Lane, walked up to and right round the compound. Took reading on SW side. Security really does seem a bit 'over the top' for a water tank: a wall 10-20' high topped by a 6' electric fence and security cameras! Gate area is very overgrown, doesn't look like it's been opened for years.Aye Jimmy16/09/2014
Around perimeter of high security complexmcbiydw227/06/2014
As Aye Jimmy & David Gradwell. I think there's an air navigation beacon within the compound, which explains the high security. Yet another inaccessible trig. Seem to be plagued by them this year.ngthack07/01/2014
Managed to park on narrow grass verge by A667 adjacent to public-right-of-way beside reservoir compound at SD 78951 05661 (127m) although better parking on Old Hall Lane 350m SE. Walked up tarmac lane/public-right-of-way to end of high stone wall of compound then squeezed through gap where fence butts with wall (it's a tight squeeze, if even slightly portly climb fence). Up grass slope alongside SW wall of compound to highest point achievable at SD 78848 05579. Finished off with a circuit of compound climbing another barbed wire fence, a wooden fence and finally a locked gate to return to road.David Gradwell22/09/2013
Clarkes Hill Reservoir is very secure so no access to trig which is near corner of compound defended by high fence and many CCTV cameras. Walked around perimeter.Dugswell217/07/2013
From Whitefield Metrolink station up the main road and back.Jake99409/01/2013
Well defended compound.fasgadh19/07/2004
