from the Moors center cp in Danby, up path past Siss Cross and 200 mtrs over short heather to summit and on to trig, down boggy ground to Castleton and up The Howe | Flatfield | 31/12/2023 |
From the E. Easy parking alongside track, about 30m from bend in road - Along track to just beyond its high point & then S. to unmarked summit. Not too bad as mostly across short heather & areas of recent burning. On return visited trig point & tumulus. | gerrybowes | 05/04/2023 |
lovely sunny stroll along path then through heather to trig and summit location | grumpy | 09/01/2023 |
From the E, roadside verge parking at road junc (NZ 7128 1089). Good track leads to within ~225m, then across easy heather moorland. Trig pillar ~100m further on. My final Esk (Whitby) catchment hill. | jonglew | 29/12/2022 |
From car park on Gerrick Lane, west along main road (yikes!) bridleway south then track to west and short heather hack. | Wycombe Wanderer | 17/10/2022 |
Visit to photograph new summit, although trig visited earlier in 2013. Parking is definately best at the start of the bridleway rather than in the parking area 200m east along a busy road. Paths until due north of the summit then a short, easy heather bash. | moorsman | 02/10/2022 |
Parking on track next to sharp bend on the busy minor road to east. Excellent track and short cropped heather to tops. | Campbell Singer | 28/01/2022 |
All possible summits covered - I hope! | nicolajane | 19/10/2021 |
2 of 5 on 22 mile bike ride. Left at the T junction along the gravel road. Ditched the bike and over the heatherland to the trig. Nice off road shortcut to get back to the main road | The-Z-Man | 18/07/2021 |

Parking area at bend in road to the south. Visited Siss Cross and nearby potential high point, then walked across the heather to the true high point and the trig. With Alfie. | Dangerous Dave | 03/11/2020 |
A heather covered flat top. Not the most exciting of hills but I saw it at its best on a fine sunny day. | Alan Moore | 03/09/2020 |
Parked in area just off road at hard left bend. Walked along broad tracks to summit trig then on to suss cross. Moorland path back to car. | Argentum66 | 24/10/2019 |
Very heathery out and back from the track to the north | Colin Crawford | 18/09/2019 |
Dusk walk out along the track then south across the Heather... from the road corner to the ENE | vegibagger | 20/04/2018 |
Cool and sunny. | Dugswell2 | 25/11/2017 |
Bagging the trig. Lots of muir burn all around. | BigJ | 08/10/2017 |
12.7 mile walk taking in Siss Cross Hill, Freebrough Hill and Airy Hill. Siss Cross summit and TP both visited, easy traverse in heather spooking many grouse and a kestrel. | mrs_ts7 | 23/09/2017 |
From east. | jimbloomer | 22/06/2017 |
Both tops just in case. Bloody grouse moor | Martin R | 24/01/2017 |
Parked at Robin Hood's Butts, two mile return on track to trig at summit - a very flat summit! | citygent | 12/09/2016 |
With Jo, from lay-by on road to south: Siss Cross Road to the Cross and alternative top, then across moor to trig, which was hosting a lizard at the time, and top. Weather; sunny, nice breeze, with good visibility. | amblerbob | 03/08/2016 |
Along track from NE and then S along(mostly)short heather.With Oscar. | catman | 03/08/2016 |
With Catman. | oscarrosie | 03/08/2016 |
Curiosity killed the cat,or in Darren's case the temptation to get too close for photos of bees at the hives (near to the road from the N) earned him a painful sting on his back. Luckily no anathalytic shock just a nasty red lump. From the trig we persevered through the heather for 500 metres SE to visit the equal height Siss Cross which we have now 'crossed off' should the height ever be upgraded, unlike David's gamble in an earlier log. Thankfully found a little path back through he heather generally heading back the right way. | Chris Pearson | 28/07/2016 |
Fourth YSM of the day. A simple walk along the track then head off across the heather. | Walker Dan | 30/08/2015 |
From ENE, start of rough track near Robin Hood's Butts. Dreary walk along track until a cut through heather leads to trig. Ground 10m to W marginally higher. Walked across to twin summit, Siss Cross itself at NZ 70316 10618. Mostly short heather to upright stone; upper part of cross may be lying on ground. Top of stone has groove with coins as offerings in it, only 8p though - well this IS Yorkshire! Ground about 50m to NW may be slightly higher. | Aye Jimmy | 01/06/2014 |
Parking area at the junction with the Gerrik road necessitates a quarter of a mile of unpleasant road walking. Better to park in the small pull in where the bridleway starts. There is then an easy path for half the distance followed by an easy quarter of a mile westwards on the path it meets. From here it a five minute walk through the heather to a distinct trig point, Obvious secong high point 100m away so visited this just in case!. | moorsman | 07/09/2013 |
Rough parking at junction with track at NZ 71292 11547. Followed track WSW for about a mile then south over rough heather to trig pillar. Not a good route if you also want to visit the 268m spot height (50k map) c500m SE. The intervening terrain looks pretty bad! We didn't visit the spot height. If the hill is ever surveyed and the spot height turns out to be higher we will go back - I promise! | David Gradwell | 27/10/2010 |
