Nightmare. Approach paths in wood semi disappeared. Summit area consists of new planting in a dense bracken and bramble melange. Suggest a winter ascent. | jimbloomer | 18/08/2021 |
Ambled along the gladed rides, enthused by sunshine and living things. Tried a few possible high points. A mound of bracken amongst birch and pine saplings? | Wycombe Wanderer | 30/05/2021 |

Eschewed the tourist route and started on the track to Stocking Hill farm then easy woodland track to summit area. Found 2 earth ridges under the bracken. | Adrian | 12/09/2019 |
Paths in wood overgrown at present. Easier to use gate from SE 6374 7457 and field edge to wood corner | carole engel | 07/07/2018 |
Used the tourist route from the south before heading to YHA Helmsley. | Dugswell2 | 08/04/2018 |
Parking by gate due south of the summit (alt 81m). Continue north along vehicular track until it stops. Look for a well trodden track running off left which takes you to the field boundary. Turn right and follow wide track to just south of the summit. Large area of newly planted trees with an under cover of brambles, bracken and gorse. No chance of establishing the true highest point. 1.72km return, asc 81m | moorsman | 08/12/2017 |
Parked in gateway to south. Round gate/fence and turn immediately left. Followed track around perimeter of the wood then finally climbing to the high point. Plenty of bramble clad lumps to choose from at the top ! | Moorponder | 19/08/2017 |
Not sure what I dislike the most farmland, grouse moor or plantations. Weather turning, too. | Martin R | 03/03/2017 |
