From the South on ROW, then tracks that lead to Mausoleum at the top. | PeterD | 25/09/2016 |
Accessed from the path to the south and then a left turn through the woods to the mausoleum. Met one of the heavy horses rolling bracken in the lower part of the woods. Couldn't help thinking the hill must have been nicer before the trees grew up and ruined the view and the mausoleum must have been a splendid landmark before it was hidden. | Herbert Anchovy | 01/07/2016 |
Beautiful mausoleum to Col Hopton needing a little tlc. | clivevilla | 23/06/2016 |
From SE, convenient non boggy verge. Access thru wood (Heavy Horses Centre) is however discouraged. Path to mausoleum leaves bridleway at N edge of wood and heads west to summit. Alternative approach from SW via permissive path also appears possible leading to a short ascent thru light bramble. | RHW | 14/02/2016 |
Parked on verge at Southfield Farm. On road and ROW to east side of wood and tracks to mausoleum. Joined by a ?Canadian lady on top. | arranc | 23/01/2016 |
A first ascent on the first of the year. Clearly folks have been here before me - there is a monument to an impressive marksman and here is the story: http://www.herefordtimes.com/news/features/walks/9687006.Garth_Lawson_s_walk_takes_him_to_marksman___s_mausoleum/?ref=rss . The woodland is typical of this area - larch and other conifers, lots of brambles and very muddy paths. Managed for shooting and there are (not very well) hidden cameras - I think they are aimed at the wildlife and not visitors. | M3WDD | 01/01/2016 |
