Black sticky anti-climb paint smeared over the high perilous security gate has been re-applied and adds to the challenge. I used dog poo bags (!) I had with me over the top spikes, but still came away with the wretched stuff smeared on my hands, trousers & jacket. Trying to clean it off with leaves not a great success. I suspect the high fencing is to stop people falling off the limestone crags from above in their quest for fossils as this is a world famous geological Silurian fossil site (Over 700 types of fossil have come from here.86 found nowhere else on Earth). It is home of the iconic trilobite, the pin-up fossil in the geology world (think ancient woodlouse). They used to be so plentiful (when the limestone was quarried for smelting) they became known as the Dudley Bug and featured on the Dudley coat of arms. Sadly despite a happy hour on the geology trail hunting the screes I found non. Ironical, there was one on display in my friend's guest bedroom that night in Telford!Chris Pearson26/02/2024
Parked in Meadow Road to S. Follow path N then steep steps to the left, past viewpoint, bear left then tall gate to left set back from the path. If you are 6 foot 5 you should be able to get over the gate comfortably! (I couldn't find the spot in the fence HA described). Short walk through meadow to summit. SoloRoguePulsar21/05/2023
Bluebell Rd to Woodland Ave on gravel tracks and steps to look at geology and that security gate. Glad I didn't try and climb it as a work party came through about 5 mins later.pwheeler28/04/2023
As PGCE. I've also got a 32 inch inside leg and wearing thick-soled boots I just made it, taking great care not to lose the family jewels. It might be safer to arrange a visit.Wycombe Wanderer06/01/2023
Parked to SE in Cedar Road. Followed paths to gate at SO 9370 9159. Climbed over security gate, then easy ground to summit. Gate is climbable with long legs: 32 inch inside leg just about okay, but a few more inches would have been more comfortable!PGCE25/12/2021
Parked top of Cedar Road. Left at path junction to steps and along fence to crossing point.Bramley17/12/2021
Socially distant walk primarily to look at rocks and collect some fossilssturuss01/12/2020
Much nicer than expected, good walk but hard to locate the HP.Stuzinho01/08/2020
Parked at W end of Cedar Rd (SO 9373 9136). Up the steep muddy bank (but down the steps a little to the N on return). Followed the path round until I found the access point, an easy climb over the fence (at SO 9358 9178); I used thick gardening gloves, but think the anti-climb paint has washed away. Some scrubby, brambley understorey to negotiate once over the fence.jonglew18/12/2019
Parked to the North in new housing estate SO937922.David Evans01/08/2019
2 of 10 on epic 49.3 mile bike ride including church hill, wrens nest, Dudley castle, netherton hill, ridgehill, blackhill, wrottesley hill, tettenhall woods, bushbury hill and essington hillThe-Z-Man15/09/2018
From S (Cedar Road). Good path then steps to awkward fence that's climbable at locked gate, but take Swarfega for afterwards.mae31/07/2018
6th top of 7 today having visited Netherton Hill, Warley park, Turner's Hill, Cawney hill and Dudley Castle, passing the Priory ruins and a delightful park then on a path east of the gorge. I didnt spot how to climb over so back-tracked and found old gate entrance. Donned gloves and climbed the diagonal supports. Up via the woodland to the open neadow, checking if the brambles were any higher but apart from the overgrown thicket a q quiet spot. Continued and found HA's step in the fence to climb over. Back onto the path and the fairly lengthy route to Sedgley Beacon. My penultimate DudleyU/A top. .Dazingdale30/06/2018
Not easy. Very steep mud slope, high fence and two gangs of teenage kids, one of whom was quite obnoxious but the rest were fine. Very unusual quarry summit. Effectively this completes the Midland Tumps.Campbell Singer29/08/2017
From Priory Gardens, northwest through housing estate, then up a footpath into the wood. Reached Herbert Anchovy's fence brace, which seems to be the highest point accessible without crossing the fence, but I didn't fancy ripping my trousers so left it there.Mariana Trench27/08/2017
F/p from S then up steep mud slope (not necessary as steps available 100m N) then along nature trail to far end of metal fence. Up onto ridge then HA's high step-up method to get over fence. Along ridge to small 'meadow' and high point with red fox lying there (briefly). Towards bottom end of meadow is toppled round pillar on plinth with stainless bolt in centre (presumably not OS).Aye Jimmy24/08/2017
Parked to the SW. There is a gap in the houses with a track leading up to the fence. Followed the fence up, then found Herbert Anchovy's spot to climb the fence. It is still quite difficult requiring getting your lead foot on to the end of an upturned length of rail about 4 feet high, sitting on the top of the fence while you change feet over and then dropping down the other side.clivevilla04/04/2017
My second fence climb of the day. The only place where climbing the fence appears possible is where the fence line suddenly steepens downhill, requiring the fencers to put in a handy short horizontal piece of metal, between fence panels, on to which you can get a foot and gingerly lift yourself over the spikes. It seems this is a common entry point as there was a clear path from there to close to the top. Needed to duck through some scrub to get to the top bit of short grassland. Working parties clearly enter the site as someone had been up there with a chain saw. Impressive quarry and the highest point is right on the edge of the cliff.Herbert Anchovy03/02/2017
An ascent with ladderman and Adrian Rayner on a cool grey foggy morning. Will be a nicer spot with some sunshine.Dugswell221/01/2017
Very foggy day. Doug Law assisted finding best ace to scale the fence. HP in scrub between grassed area and cliff.Adrian21/01/2017
From North. Went to highest point that fence would allow.PeterD23/10/2016
4th hill on cycle around the West Midlands. Long time since I was last here and can't remember fences around the caverns and Sisters. High point within fenced area above the Sisters at edge of cut grassy meadow.RichardM04/08/2016
Good to be here after having seen from afar many times. Interesting quarrying and geological history boards on marked trail. High point required crossing a fence and is the grassy top of a quarry edge.Denise 04/08/2016
Perhaps the most unexpected tops of the whole black country. Nothing prepares you for it. Had a good look around the security fence but found no easy or safe way in. Incidentally there may be anothwr tump at the other (north) end. Certainly has a fair bit of ascent to it.stig_nest21/04/2016
Didn't expect to be walking in a wooded gorge in Dudley !Mark Sims07/12/2015
Car park closed, so parked at pub. Interesting area. Fence is negotiable, if you find the right spot.ngthack29/11/2015
Park at college. Walk up on paths and steps to gridfef. Solid fencing prevents access to final 60'. 14.00.arranc20/01/2015
From S. Could not get up very greasy clay track, but found large loop North and back along summit ridge to fence.GordonAdshead18/01/2015
Summit area is managed grassland, accessed by a grassy track from gate at SW corner. Security fencing, but access not particularly difficult or dangerous. May be worth contacting Dudley MBC, maybe join a work party.RHW31/08/2014
I was surprised that no one else had logged this hill until I got there are found the impregnable metal safety fence all around the summit area (hill is actually called Seven Sisters) Annoying that couldn't get right to the highest point, but given the unstable quarry faces I can understand why access is prohibited. Still an interesting little walk on good paths around the old quarries and geological nature reserve. Good free car park (but no facilities) to north on Wrens Hill Road by the pub (for sale so probably soon to be no longer). Some of my ancestors came from Dudley, maybe they worked the quarries or strolled up the hill on a Sunday - does that count?Hillsidenick12/06/2014
Walked around in circles until I finally found the spot described below for getting over the fence. Got very muddy hands from various steep hills. Not complaining though! Best hill of the day. Parked in Meadow Road and went up the path next to house number 144.sjb16/03/2012
Date is best guess. Came up here on a geological field trip back in the day when we considered it reasonable to harvest fossiliferous rock like a plague of locusts.DC11main01/07/1972
