Parked in Waller Drive as others. The field E of the summit is open access; from its highest point, a good path leads throught the woods to the summit, popular with local dog walkers. 10 minutes round trip. | Mark Jackson | 30/08/2023 |
Delightful little hill from ROW to the south. There's a new housing estate south of the ROW now. | vegibagger | 23/08/2021 |
Same as PGCE. Quick walk enroute to Witney. With Danú. | Dangerous Dave | 22/08/2020 |
Parked in Waller Drive, adjacent to park. Up through park, then left on path through trees to summit and trig. | PGCE | 29/05/2020 |
Easy walk from Byron Road | johnkenyon | 08/03/2020 |
11th and final tump of 11 on a 46.3km traverse from Goldicote bus. park to Banbury climbing Rough Hill,Idlicote hill, Castle Hill, Brailes Hill, Mine Hill, Broom Hill, Epwell Hill, Shenlow, Long Hill and Barton hill then via road and Salt wsy. Overgrown brambles checked and patch of nettles. Could not locate path initially so climbed over fence then found path to estate then urban roads to reach my Airbnb. What a day! | Dazingdale | 01/06/2019 |
Parked to ENE at nearest point in the housing estate by short path into the field. Locals have long since demolished the top fence. | GordonAdshead | 25/05/2019 |
Parked in new housing estate on west side of A361. Walked through the estate to foot of the hill, which is parkland here. Ascended by following the north side of a hedge to pick up a path through the trees to the summit. A pleasant hill with a distinct summit. | JohnW | 30/03/2019 |
RoW between Waller Drive and Bloxham Vale sales office followed until opposite hill. Openings on right into field, took one alongside hedge and up through wood. | Aye Jimmy | 27/02/2019 |
Byron Drive on edge of housing to start. With little vegetation in January, I found the hp WSW of trig. | KC | 18/01/2019 |
As others, parked in Waller Drive, and walked across the local recreational area over top. Looked at parking on the Broughton Rd side, near Mole End, first- seriously scary. | pwheeler | 02/01/2019 |
Walk from Banbury Station. 70 minute round trip. Straightforward | trimarc2 | 27/04/2017 |
Parked in residential street to SE and took the RoW that heads west. Turned right by the pond and ended up crawling through a hedge to the edge of an arable field. Turned right and ended up on some neatly mown amenity grassland which leads upwards towards the top and a path can be found through the scrub. If you turn right through a five bar gate back into a residential area, just after the pond, you can avoid the hedge and the rather narrow edge to the arable field. | Herbert Anchovy | 29/03/2017 |
Used wheresthepath's descent route. Very straightforward. | Campbell Singer | 26/02/2017 |
Evidence of a summit sacrifice with various carefully completed school pupil's note books having been burnt and flung into the brambles- presmuably in post exam relief or fury. Their science book (all about starch) had largely resisted burning and so instead had been speared onto the highest thorny branch. I was tempted to unhook it, mark it and return it with suggestions for improvements. Instead with 6 Tumps done before 9am treated myself to a Tesco breakfast in Banbury, next to the giant Kraft coffee making factory -with its odd (but not unpleasant) smell. Kraft were naughty this week trying unsuccessfully to buy Unilever for a low bid (of only £115bn!). I was tempted to march over there and offer them a tenner for the lot and see how they liked it. | Chris Pearson | 17/02/2017 |
Plenty of parking on grass verge at closest point of Waller Drive to E of the hill. Followed footpath shown on OS maps around S face of hill & then ascending from SW. Path was ploughed clay field edge overhung with brambles - quite hard going. HP definitely short way WSW of trig. Descended via unmarked but well-used path off E end of hill, through trampled down gap in fence & direct back to top corner of grassy area off Waller Drive - recommend this for future ascents. | wheresthepath | 04/01/2017 |
Shenington to Banbury. Via Broughton Castle & FPs to SW. | Smudge | 21/10/2016 |
From edge of housing estate SE, followed bridleway to path across fields by hedge, round the back and slight steep rise to top. Trig clearly not highest point, pretty sure it is edge of nettles 12 m WSW of trig, the top 17m to ENE seemed level with trig! My gps gave readings of 169m for trig, 170 m for ENE top and 171m for WSW top! But certainly not 2 m height difference between the 2 highest points, my gps fluctuates a fair bit though. Looking at both points from trig, I am almost certain the WSW top is highest!! Both explored wearing over trousers for the nettles! Lovely hot day, nice views northwards. | pdantic | 21/07/2016 |
From main road, initially along byway, then FP that goes North by hedge, following path to the top. HP short distance from Trig. | PeterD | 14/05/2016 |
From SE on foot path through area of housing then up very wet grassy hill side to summit. Pleasent grassy summit surrounded by scrub and a few trees. High point ~ 12m WSW of trig pillar. Reasonable views, pity about the litter. | RichardM | 13/01/2016 |
Very foggy but seemed quite a nice top. | clivevilla | 02/11/2015 |
Temporary yellow footpath signs in estate. Then up field to wood. | ngthack | 31/08/2015 |
Through residential estate to open access land. HP approx 17m NE of trig pillar on edge of scrubby woodland. | jonglew | 17/06/2015 |
