With HS. Nice summit environs - church, farm, windmill etc. Parked on Hillside Croft to the NE to make more of a walk out of it.Mark Jackson02/09/2023
Starting at the pub at Napton, steep climb up the hill then round the back of the church to the summit near the windmill. Also the location of a WWII lookout point. The best views are from about halfway up. Continued on to the adjacent Beacon Hill.praenterprise23/09/2022
Pleasant walk up from the village. Visited many times and can never quite decide where precise top is, but I currently believe it to be the centre of the last bend leading to the windmill house.JonRus29/07/2022
The info.board suggests reflecting on freedom from war in Europe. Say that to the people of Ukraine.Martin R25/02/2022
After completing Oxford Canal walk at Napton Lock on a cold, misty and dreary day, I climbed to the damp, dreary and misty summit before enjoying the muddy, slippery footpath round the back of the windmill, hardly visible in the fog.PhilipChaston19/12/2021
After beacon Hill. There is now a sign after the farm saying don't drive to the windmill gates because there's no turning space! Returned to Offchurch along the canal two pathMinto18/08/2021
Parked by Napton Church and then an easy stroll along the lane (not really enough exercise to justify having a sit down on the bench by the summit). Saw first swift of the year though.milimana14/05/2021
100 mile ride from home on a fine spring day. Ate my lunch on the bench by the rowan tree.AndyS09/03/2021
Parked near the bottom of Butt Hill (nr A425) to make the walk worthwhile. A gentle climb via a narrow (and muddy) road past the church, then onto the lane to the windmill. The summit is marked with a WWII Observer Post plaque; the windmill itself is on private land. Back via the lovely busy village shop for sustenance. Thus kcal.in>kcal.out ;-)mad_paddy12/12/2020
Plenty of parking at the church.PGCE19/11/2020
Drove up to the windmill house. Reversed back to the wartime observer post, stopped for a wander round.jonglew14/09/2020
Highland cattle in fields before windmill. I can confirm there is no turning near the windmill. Long reverse!cjo12/01/2020
Small stretch from the canal after a bit of cabin fever. Lovely little church on the way up. Path over north side very overgrown! Grace not happy! With the Lilly's plus ones minus Mark.ByronHaywood14/07/2019
2nd tump of 4, 1st an out and back from the bus stop to Hensborough hill, courtesy of the 63 bus from Leamington Spa then took next bus to Stockton and the start of my traverse to Byfield. I took the Millenium Way to the Oxford Canal then fp upto the track that leads to the Windmill. Visited memorial then Windmill. Highest point appears to be at gate or just inside but as RHW states Windmill is lower. Memorial was installed by the farmer. I had a nice chat with him and his wife. Returned over field to HB grid ref then continued past Church and out of Napton heading East for Beacon hill...Dazingdale08/12/2018
A walk along the track to the windmill. Terrible narrow roads around the village.Play2End11/08/2018
1.4 out-and-back walk from village, walked along to church then windmill which is unfortunately private so hard to get photo of, crossed summit on way, saw Coventry from top. Earlier that day bagged Crown Hill, later bagged Borough Hill.DanTrig16/04/2018
Foot path along drive to house and windmill from village. Owners have provided tree and picnic table on hill top at site of ROC post. All very level. Windmill silhouetted by sunset.RichardM15/02/2018
Great local viewpoint, used the fp network here a few times. Visit with date of ascent on a walk with Pete from Lower Shuckburgh via Beacon Hill (qv for more detail)pwheeler26/12/2017
Midday, 11 degrees C, fog lifting, some sunshine. Pleasant scenery but too many aircraft for tranquillity.Wycombe Wanderer22/12/2017
Walked up from village, parking was tricky. Took reading near gate to the windmill house, but anywhere along last 50m could be as high.Aye Jimmy19/09/2017
From church. From hill top the info board states observers and villages watched (presumably in horror) the 1940 intense blitz of Coventry which was a centre for munitions and aircraft engines. It seems that Churchill's 'let Coventry burn' utterance to hide the fact the Egnima machine had cracked the German code is false. The canal around the hill was a stop line defended by pill boxes to halt a German invasion that was believed likely after the fall of France.Chris Pearson13/05/2017
Arrived at church car park just in time for Sunday matins 10.30. Attendance appeared small as still plenty of parking. Along very muddy lane and onto good road to occupied windmill. HP appears to be on approach road.Campbell Singer12/02/2017
Parked by church and followed path and muddy track then driveway to top. Interesting memorial to the Observer Corps from WWII.clivevilla20/01/2017
P by church. Track to top. Somewhere between memorial bench and windmill house.chrisbien10/10/2016
Drove up, but had to reverse back 200mGordonAdshead08/07/2016
Lots of parking by church. HP on road before the house with windmill, just past the seat commemorating a WW2 lookout point.PeterD09/09/2015
The highest point seems to be the memorial to the anti-aircraft battery, which used the hill during World War Two.JohnW09/07/2015
Nice stroll up from the village, through the churchyard, with the dog.Father Ted25/06/2015
Up from village. Windmill a feature. Good views.arranc15/02/2015
Highest point seem to be at gate or just before: house with windmill slightly lower. Strolled up from village on crisp winter morning.RHW13/12/2014
A public footpath shares the metalled road from Napton village to the windmill (which is now a residence). It's an easy stroll up from the village. The hill's flat summit is by the roadside approx 150 yards from the mill. It is not clear exactly where the highest point is: the land on either side of the road is fenced off.Skip16/10/2014
Top too flat to define true summit. Probably the middle (SP 45848 61340) of the straight bit of road just before the windmill.JRussell24/12/2013
Draycote to Southam. After a pleasant sunny afternoon, hit by violent shower on reaching the summit.Smudge19/10/2013
Gentle Sunday afternoon stroll along the canal and up the hill.rhalstead04/08/2013
