From large concrete standing/ track entrance to the north. Followed track then cut through hedge to walk final few m across pssture. | cjo | 18/12/2023 |
Seventh Tump of the day. From the SE. | Mark Jackson | 12/11/2022 |
From start of footpath to southeast. Summit is in field with lovely alpine flowers. | PGCE | 22/06/2020 |
Parked at 53960 12398, over a slightly overgrown gate and straight up to HP. | clivevilla | 29/05/2020 |
As others, from fp to SE where there's a stile off the Woodeaton road at pt 81. Easy access on the day, a strip of grass thru stubble to a little spinney marked by a single tree symbol on the 1/25K as if to indicate the lack of feature of the hill | pwheeler | 11/11/2019 |
4th and final tump on an 18.3km traverse from New Headington to Islip station, climbing Shotover Hill, Red Hill and Beckley Hill, using Oxford Greenbelt Way to access lane then on the lane and into road heading for Woodeaton but used fp to access field and then headed up to the very flat summit. The wonderful feature was the incredible array of butterflies and Cinnabar moths in particular flittering around. I recorded 100m @ SP 53414 12505. Higher ground seems to exist at the quarry but of course not natural. Easy to follow a mown path back onto the B4027 then I used the Oxford Greenbelt way to get to Islip, making use of a nice pub for a coffee before taking the next train from Islip to Oxford Parkway. Another route continues from Langford lane West to Oxford via 2 tumps... | Dazingdale | 07/07/2019 |
With Judy: Parked at Quarry Gates: Friday: but Truck drivers very friendly | GordonAdshead | 21/06/2019 |
From SSE, up lane to corner at SP 5353.1219 (quarry not working). Under bwf and round RH side of quarry to large flat field at top. Very vague 'highest point'. | Aye Jimmy | 23/03/2019 |
Easy walk up as described by Denise and RichardM. Solo. | Dangerous Dave | 10/03/2019 |
Headington to Oxford Parkway. | Smudge | 18/11/2018 |
HP is a levellish area of rough grass with no feature but extensive lowland views. We accessed from the S end of the footpath to the SE. The quarry to the N is in full operation with a fence preventing access from the quarry track. Interesting to read comments about dinosaur prints. | Denise | 08/11/2018 |
From foot path on lane to SE. Across pasture and low fence to summit field of rough grass. Levellish. | RichardM | 08/11/2018 |
Entrance to quarry want even marked on my tpuk app map, so must be new- ish. Walked along in dusk to actual quarry gates. There were some mounds inside there that were 3-4 metres higher than the ground outside and probably higher than the 102m field so I felt I had to get in and stand on top which I did. Very boring summit. | vegibagger | 22/10/2018 |
Parked by gates and walked up track. I realised I would be on the wrong side of the hedge so climbed fence into small wood with pond, went through gate, crossed the tarmac access road and into the field. | Herbert Anchovy | 09/04/2018 |
Walk from Islip Station using Oxfordshire Way with a little bit on an unpleasant B road. | trimarc2 | 09/04/2017 |
From Woodeaton | rhalstead | 28/02/2017 |
Sunday so no quarry traffic. Parked at road entrance and over fence. New track appears higher than field. Not a lot of interest here. | Campbell Singer | 26/02/2017 |
This is dinosaur country with their remains and footprints having been found along with many smaller fossils in Woodeaton Quarry next to the summit field. This was a SSSI until it was decided that 600,000 tons of earth and clay (where from?) has to be dumped somewhere and so now 20 lorries a day bring a load here. However not far away there are the protected Ardley dinosaur footprints - 40 sets of tracks of large dinosaurs making their way along a muddy shoreline. For possible posterity I kindly left a trail of welly boot footprints in the muddy summit field. | Chris Pearson | 17/02/2017 |
as per PeterD | arranc | 16/08/2016 |
As others parked by double gate and followed track. Quarry is back in use and there is another track for vehicles. HP somewhere in field | PeterD | 27/05/2016 |
Flat summit area, Abney could only find summit to within about 20m | Galltywenallt | 27/09/2015 |
Up quarry track & over gate on left into field just before quarry entrance. Double back & out into field to very vague summit. | ngthack | 01/09/2015 |
Parking at field entrance on B4027 (SP 53708 12902). Over 2 field gates into wild flower meadow and direct to HP, which is not easy to pinpoint with any precision. | jonglew | 02/07/2015 |
Quarry now closed so parking in entrance to quarry access road. Easy access to the flat top via this road. Climbable fence to summit in pasture. Quiet but unexciting. | Hillsidenick | 23/01/2014 |
