From small car park to North. Followed path around and up to the staircase. Would have been challenging if not there.PeterD09/02/2023
Solo. Part of 6 tump loop. Parked in small CP to North. Anti-clockwise round path to steps.MickyRoss04/08/2022
From the small CP to the north. I am pretty sure I would not have got up there without the steps.clivevilla23/06/2020
Parked in small CP to the north. Followed clear path through the ferns around the tower of stone and up the flight of stairs.Andrew Pearson04/09/2019
Seen from the CP to the N amidst summer vegetation, Blackingstone looks like a Mayan temple ruin in the jungle. And the summit is a delightful spot to sit in the sun and dream. The steps are a bit of a mystery: several sources say they were built in the 1870s, and locals remember climbing them seventy years ago, but no-one seems to know who built them.Nick Down115/07/2019

A surprising tump comprising a single prominent tor that rises out of nearby trees and undergrowth, with stone steps and a metal staircase to the flat top, from which there are superb views. 5 min walk from nearby carpark on marked path.Denise 09/08/2017
My first visit to this surprisingly large but hidden tor. Path cicles anti-clockwise from the car park to excellent steps up its E side. Large flat top, great views.RichardM09/08/2017

What an amazing and surprising large 'secret' tor tucked away. Coarse grained granite weathered into overlapping steep slabs with horizontal breaks. Nature has the best art work. The summit steps were built in 1870. Dartmoor National Park bought the tor in 1980. There are a handful of climbs on the tor on uk climbing but I cant find out the easiest way up the summit block without the staircase? Despite donning my climbing shoes I backed off from a staircase free attempt to climb the rock left of steps -one high step rock-over move needed (4c?)on poor gritty hand holds, with easier looking but crusty lichen covered rock above -and not something I would like to reverse without the adjacent staircase - gratefully used.Chris Pearson15/08/2016

Easy parking on the car park with a good route to the summit. Steps could be hazardous if wet.moorsman19/08/2014
Summit tor tamed by an old staircase - without it the summit would be a serious climb. Car park N side, then scrabbly ascent, probably easier skirting round W sideRHW12/04/2014
