From S, drove rough Old Mine Road to barrier then short walk N to W-E path which follows brackeny bank of old quarry. Point on bank 30m W of tall rusty pole seemed a good HP contender, hard to tell with bracken cover. Surprisingly drizzly start to the dayRHW01/09/2019
Over Access Land from the S via paths through gorse. I suspect the natural summit of Hingston Down is now lost to the large working quarry on the N side of the hill. Highest remaining ground is now outside of quarry on Access Land. A rusty flag(?)pole is the the most pleasing high point but the bank 100m to the W is slightly higher. Vegetated mounds (spoil?) around Hingston Down mine are of similar height. Great views of Dartmoor and Plymouth Sound. Visit from Calstock where we are moored for the night having sailed up the Tamar River .RichardM16/09/2017
various possible HPs on the access land including by an old flagpole, by a ruined engine house (1882) and on disturbed ground nearby- large active mine nearby, possibly the original HP was here. Arthurite- apple green copper- mined here, from 17-19th C. In AD 838 the Saxons defeated the Cornish ( and Danes) , denying them independence. Moored at Calstock- unexpectedly fast flow made row in dinghy back to boat exciting.Denise 15/09/2017
