Gabwell Hill lies along the scenic A379 South Devon Coastal Road from Exeter to Plymouth (avoided inland by most traffic). This section is narrow, very twisty and hilly, with fine sweeping views (for passengers) over Babbacombe Bay. Rain had mercifully stopped -useful short walk from layby to NE to dry off my waterproofs a bit from earlier deluge. From track highpoint climbed over bank /through hedge into scrubby thicket as maybe higher. Got a glimpse of geodesic dome tent / structure in adjacent field - whatever its function I hope its watertight.Chris Pearson04/03/2024
From lay-by to NE. Up good track to top and up earthbank which was higher than natural HP.PeterD04/03/2023
Quick sprint up whilst my wife sat in the car in the layby to the NE (very tolerant of her on Valentines!). Not much view from the summit; not a patch on The Beacon nearby. In a nearby scruffy field sealed off by a large solid gate there was a small geodesic dome; I'm not sure why!wheresthepath14/02/2023
The track seemed as good as anywhere.Chris Peart15/10/2021

Final Torbay tump. Good farm track running SE from layby parking on A379. HP seemed to be on the track just S of a junction. Went into field on E side track to look for a higher point but GPS giving 1m lower. ROC nuclear monitoring bunker supposedly demolished but signs of it found at the old stile marked private - keep out.jonglew11/07/2016
Track 20m S of junction appears to be natural HP. Gate into field to E with old stile in hedge bank to S with Keep Out sign: if any higher ground SE of track junction I was happy to just look down as very unfriendly scrub. My penultimate Torbay tump...RHW10/07/2016
Roadside parking at end of track north of summit. High point on track a few metres south of junction of tracks. Over hedge by two trees may be higher. Got through hedge a bit further south and found myself on a weird lawn leading to the trees. Seems to be maintained by a caravan dweller who might have taken exception to my presence if I had been seen.ijpowell28/07/2015
Along track from the north-west. Gap in hedge to get to what seemed to be the highest point in the field.Moorponder11/06/2013
