To make a climb of it, I started in Oarford and ascended via Larkbarrow and Alderman's Barrow. The most prominent feature on the top is a water-filled sink-hole. | Isambard | 09/04/2014 |
Small lay-by to east at SS 84654 42969. Diary extract: The track/path for Black Mires lacked substance and it also refused to leave the shelter of a wall. We’d no alternative but to abandon the damn thing and set of over the rough stuff. It turned out not to be as rough as some folk make out. A distinct lack of gorse seemed to be its undoing in the rough terrain stakes. We tramped through the heather and grass to the summit spot height. From this lofty vantage point we were pleased to note that further wanderings were both pointless and unnecessary. I won’t go as far as to state we were definitely on the highest point of the massive 460m contour but what the hell, we’d done our best! | David Gradwell | 23/10/2011 |
