With Lesley, a steep climb out of Coombe Martin over Little Hangman first(bench on top) A nice path across breezy, sunny quiet moorland - Below here is the highest cliff in England (mostly steep grass)at the base of which lies the incredible adventure of the Exmoor Coast traverse -a very committing traverse /climb at sea level between Coombe Martin & Lynton. A huge tidal range (2nd largest in world) and very few escape routes up steep rock and grass make for a very serious outing. The 1st continuous crossing in 1978 took 4 and half days! http://members.madasafish.com/~exmoorwalker/page100.html. Silver mines to the south have helped fund several war efforts of English kings e.g Henry V at Agincourt, and silver from here is in the Crown Jewels. | Chris Pearson | 06/04/2016 |
