6 mile road run up and back from Bruton mostly on leafy lanes with a few stretches of terror on the main A road with no pavement. Not helped by no sign of fp through thick hedge from SW. To the SE is the grimly named Jack White's Gibbett where a local was hanged for mudering and stealing a travellers Spanish gold (about which a poem was written) A nicer name by far to the SW is God's Hill ( not a Tump sadly) but where terracing was used to produce more food in 12th century as population pressure increased, only for the Black Drath to strike and the population to fall again. | Chris Pearson | 21/06/2018 |
