Pounced on by security (better than one of the lions) as I approached on foot past Longleat House from Horningsham on a 10 tump 26 mile circuit from Warminster following here Sustrans National Cycle Route 25 and 24 shown as green dots on my map. Asked if I had a ticket to be in the grounds and that I needed a bike to follow the cycle route! After polite explanations on my part as to where I was heading I was allowed to continue, and even agreed to me cutting back through to Park Hill if I kept a low profile amongst the thousands of day trippers. Questionable request -must you actually have a bike to follow a national cycle route -what if you have a puncture and are pushing? Read up later that the cycle routes through the estate are permitted under licence from the Longleat Estate, and that following robberies and vandalism walkers are being excluded and even a cyclist has been turned back, although officially the licence still stands. After wooded summit found a way on row's around tChris Pearson30/07/2016

Parked at ST 79935 44573 and followed tracks to the top. I've been here before as it's local but not sure if I reached the top. The name always makes me think of Startrek (Gene Roddenbury).Chris Peart14/01/2015
