Lovely day for SWCP circular walk from Ilfracombe to Hele Bay with a little diversion up Hillsborough. Fabulous view point, with Shirl | Valerie | 27/03/2023 |
Walked up to the splendidly located HP from Ilfracombe via the swimming pool. Shared snack with tame robins at summit bench. On an overcast day, the rain started as we left and it was a quick descent down the coastal path. A bit tricky to find with a construction site by the long stay car park meaning diversions- not well signposted. We would have spent some time exploring the hill fort had it remained dry. | pwheeler | 05/06/2022 |

A great hilly headland /viewpoint. With around 7 different environmental bodies protecting it from development there is no chance thankfully of building on it. Iron Age man got away with it, but that was 2000 years ago leaving a double bank of a (promontory) iron age hill fort. In 1895 the Victorian developers were thwarted by early conservationists which has been maintained ever since. A shipwreck in 1796 occurred below in Rapperree Cove -The London- carrying slaves /prisoners of war to Bristol from St Lucia.Over 40 were drowned, including locals who went to help. | Chris Pearson | 07/04/2016 |
