From Ogbourne St George and Coombe Down- lots of interest on the summit area, token visit to mound by car pk, glorious on fort. Back over Burderdrop Down (nice) and neglected bridleway NE of Ridgeway, like many going along field edge. One feels the company that owns the Herdswick Fms resent access, even on RoWs and that they must hate the country park.pwheeler23/08/2021
Not an easy ascent during crop season. Entered field at SU 15497 76123. Ascend summit mound from SSE to avoid worst of nettles. Reserve for winter if possible.jimbloomer23/07/2021

Earth fortifications are impressive- apparently enclosing an area of 11 acres. Good lunchspot. Sadly, the HP is not on the embankments but either in the car park (west end) or a nettled covered field mound to S. Squall with rainbow; very windy.Denise 02/11/2020

From the car park, and after a wee at the PC we passed this top on the way to the Fantastic Barbury castle hill fort. Took photo on way back just to show I've been there.ChinnockC01/06/2019

2nd top of 6 on a walk from Berwick Bassett to Hinton Parva with Lesley on Stage 2 of our Ridgeway walk. I climbed Hackpen Hill then we both walked over the fort ramparts before continuing to the gate/toilet blocks where i wandered around making sure. We continued on the Ridgeway, heading for Coombe Down..Dazingdale23/09/2018

Solo. You walk over the summit on the way to the fort without realising, especially today in dense mist!Dangerous Dave19/02/2018
Only 60 mts from large car park. Some strange behaviour apparently going on at the toilets!Campbell Singer23/12/2017

Came here after a nearby orienteering event. Walked from the carpark to the castle, which is quite impressive. The ramparts are possibly the highest point but there are other candidates.JohnW30/04/2017

A flat topped hill. Large car park is on the natural high point and is essentially level. Gates at each end of the Ridgeway track being on the ridgeline and unable to differentiate in height by Abney. 2m high bank at NW end of car park is manmade but the highest ground in the area. Top of Barbury Castle embankments are of similar height to the car park. Great day of blue skies, calm and sunshine. And again on 02-11-2020 to visit the large nettle covered mound in field of stubble to S of car park. Lashing rain, sunshine and rainbows. Ground at base of mound similar height to the car park.RichardM18/01/2017
