Wessex Ridgeway from Avebury to Devizes and back to car with hills attached | PhilipChaston | 19/02/2023 |
A solo walk from Devizes. After Roundway Hill and Oliver's Castle hillfort, came up here to see the barrows. From the gate to the south, almost sank in a bog before skirting left (west) then up the escarpment. The round barrow is in a fine spot at the top. It started raining quite heavily so had a break in the scrubby woods, before dropping down to the badly ploughed long barrow. Back to the road then tracks and roads to get the bus to Avebury from Bishops Cannings. | thesweetcheat | 05/02/2022 |
Same route as Aye jimmy. Very misty but could sense steep drop from summit. | cjo | 19/12/2021 |
What a delightful little hill. It has its own little valley, steep scarp edge and views down to Calne and beyond. After a day of conquering wheat fields this is a real high point. | DC11main | 18/07/2021 |
Parked at 6-way junction to south of Morgan's Hill. Nice circuit of Morgan's Hill, King's Play Hill and Roundway Hill. | PGCE | 04/01/2021 |

I parked at Hill Cottage and followed the obvious path - a smashing summit with terrific views to the N. | Chris Peart | 26/04/2015 |
A lovely circular walk in blazing spring sunshine. From SU 014 641 visited King's Play Hill and Roundway Hill. King's Play Hill is a lovely vantage point at the top of a fabulously steep escarpment. | Herbert Anchovy | 15/04/2015 |
Circular walk over Roundway Hill first. An annual steam engine gathering is held below the steep west slope in the village of Heddington. The noise must impinge on the calm of the Buddhist meditation centre there in which mindfulness of breathing and of thoughts, feelings and actions are being used to gain insight in the true nature of reality. A 10 day course at the centre only costs £250 but accommodation is shared, each day starts at 4.30am , guests are asked not to bring any reading matter with them or to talk to the other guests - which maybe explains why a chap out walking did not return our cheery hello? | Chris Pearson | 20/02/2015 |
Devizes to Bishops Cannings. | Smudge | 20/06/2014 |
Mud fest today! No public access but seems ok from 'dog friendly' sign on field access gate at SU 00887 65618. Visited on a circular walk to take in Roundway Hill also. | jonglew | 07/02/2014 |
Parked at the Plantation car park to south and did an excellent circular walk including Roundway Hill.
Clear path across access land from Hill Cottage to south. Very interesting hill with some lovely combes and a barrow at summit. Superb views north to Cotswolds and south to Salibury Plain across Vale of Pewsey. A really excellent TuMP. | Hillsidenick | 19/01/2014 |
