Anti-clockwise horseshoe with John From Talla Farm - up Erie Hill, Garelet Dod, Cape Law, down to the aptly named Rotten Bottom (deep sections of bog), then up to Firthhope Rig and up to White Coomb's summit. Back to Firthhope Rig, around to Lochcraig Head and tapped the cairn (realised later that's not the summit so need to go back for that Donald). Then headed back East then North to Molls Cleuch Dod (checked the summit location this time), then headed over Carlavin Hill and descended (*very* steeply) NE down to Games Hope Burn and followed the track back out to the car. 21km, 1300m of ascent - 6h 47min including a lunch stop near Lochcraig Head. Sunny but freezing winds up top. | mproudfoot | 14/10/2023 |
Garelet Hill to Carlavin Hill horseshoe from Talla Linnfoots | hummusg | 02/10/2023 |
Last top of this walk. Stroll from Molls Cleuch Doss, albeit last wee bit was a drag. Cairn made from drystone dyke stones and slightly offset. Buzzard overhead. Lots of voles on descent. | langskill | 18/05/2023 |
12th for the day heading back to the car at the east end of Talla reservoir. Steep drop to the road. Great day with high cloud and little wind. Under 7 hours and 11.7 miles solo. Easy going for most of the way. | bolton | 15/04/2023 |
From Molls Cleuch Dod, following the fence and then up to the summit. 4/8. | JAdair97 | 12/11/2022 |
Tough 19 mile circuit of Gameshope with White Coomb, Carrefran Gans, Lochcraig Head and Nickies Knowe added on. Wet first few hours, cleared up nicely | Gary Heath | 14/10/2022 |
From Talla Reservoir to Megget Stone | Huwel | 29/08/2022 |
Parked at the bridge above Talla Linnfoots, walked up to the megget stone, then cut across the bog to ascend Nickies Knowe (had a wee lie down for 45mins due to the heat). Meet a guy from the Moffat Mountain Rescue on the summit, he turned back to descend the way we had both ascended. While I headed for Lochcraig Head, which had great views of Loch Skeen. Dropped to the west to then ascent Molls Cleuch Dod and dander along to Carlavin Hill. While descending back to the car, dark thunderous clouds appeared, but it stayed dry and no sigt of lighting. | chillyman8 | 14/08/2022 |
Made the mistake of just charging up the hill from the track. Other routes, in hindsight, look possible. However, we got up all right! On to Molls Cleuch Dod, Lochcraig Head and Nickie's Knowe. | the pigguy | 11/08/2022 |
Parking at NT144200. Up road to Megget Stone, then tried to contour S and E around new fence to save height and to intercept ATV up Nickies Knowe, but large area of MEBs to negotiate. Nickies Knowe, Talla East Side, Lochcraig Head, Firthybrig Head, Donald’s Cleuch Head, Great Hill, back to Firthybrig Head where TLV track peels off to Molls Cleuch Dod, Carlavin Hill. An ATV offers a promising descent, N, until it is defeated by the tough veg lower down. Tough deep veg down through new plantings to 4x4 track beside Talla Water. | Isbjorn | 14/06/2022 |
From Falls car park for a round of Watch Knowe, Lochcraig Head, Nickies Knowe, Carlavin Hill, Molls Cleuch Dod, Great Hill, Firthhope Rig, White Coomb and Carrifran Gans. | rhalstead | 15/04/2022 |
From Meggethead up Dead for Cauld then along to Nickies Knowe and on to Lochcraig Head. Down and up to Firthybrig Head then out to Great Hill and back to Donald's Cleuch Head and on to Firthhope Rig and White Coomb. Out and back to Carrifran Gans then doubled back and out to Molls Cleuch Dod and Carlavin Hill before dropping back to road and the couple of miles of tarmac. | SS | 27/03/2022 |
Wide verge for parking at NT 1343 2027. Across FB then steeply up to Garelet Hill -> Laird's Cleuch Rig -> Erie Hill -> Garelet Dod -> Ellers Cleuch Rig -> Din Law -> Great Hill -> Molls Cleuch Dod then continued NW along the ridge to here before descending steeply back to car for a 15.9km round. | jonglew | 13/12/2021 |
The last hill of the day on a long anti-clockwise circuit of Gameshope from Talla Linnfoots. Descended wet grassy slopes NNE to the east of Gates Cleuch, then track and road down to the van. With Ian. | Dangerous Dave | 23/10/2021 |
From Molls Cleuch Dod. Descended nne on e side of Gates Cleuch to track then minor road to Talla Linhope. Awkward descent due to thick vegetation over rough ground. Angle of slope was easy enough. | KeithByTheC | 02/08/2021 |
A clockwise round of 11 summits from Nickies Knowe to Garelet Hill. Parking just E of the bridge on the Talla-Megget road.
From Molls Cleuch Dodd. Retraced route to col, then contoured SE then SSE to cross both branches of Donald’s Cleuch, and straight up Great Hill. | Minto | 18/07/2021 |
Six tops east of Gameshope, as a follow-up to the previous weekend bagging those to the west. Room for two cars at cattle grid, at Megget Stone (and enough for ten more a short stroll west). Dion sank to knees in bog, two minutes in - but saved by gaiters! Straight up Nickies Knowe on good track, then on to Lochcraig Head (views!), Firthybrig Head. Decided to add in Great Hill, so we can skip it when doing White Comb. Turned back via Molls Cleuch Dod, and Carlavin Hill, before descending rough slope just west of Molls Cleuch gully. Should have returned to Molls Cleuch Dod and descended directly north as we spotted a good track there, after it was too late. Sun and wind. Great walk. | Toby-and-Dion | 17/07/2021 |

Nickies Knowe, Lochcraig Head, Firthybrig Head, Molls Cleuch Head, Carlavin Hill, steep descent to pretty Gameshope, step back up to Erie Hill, Lairds Cleuch Rig, Garelet Hill and descent to Talla Linnfoots. Warm, sunny and windy. With B and R. | jenx | 31/07/2020 |
Round of Gameshope valley from Talla Linfoots. 13 Donald/Donald Tops. 23km, +/-1300m, 8 hours. | PGCE | 26/10/2019 |
The final Donald on an anticlockwise circuit of the 10 Donalds around the Gameshope Valley, starting with Garelet Hill. From Molls Cleuch Dod, followed a path, faint in places, to the high point of the wall which lies next to a cairn. A tussocky descent N. to farm track & then along track & down road back to car. (S) | gerrybowes | 07/06/2019 |
Reached small summit cairn of CH after following fence/atv track from MCD. Left approx N to descend to track leading to Talla Water bridge and then to P. Weather was good all day, even warm at P. First visit was also solo on 20/05/2015. | jacobus | 11/05/2019 |

From White Mare's Tail NTS car park. | Grinner | 14/10/2018 |
From small car park near bridge to north. Storm Callum raged, Water sprites on Talla, walked up in the lea of the hill. Battered at the top barely crouch let alone stand near Cairn/walll but strangely clear, rain on descent. | N.Morters | 12/10/2018 |
Parking above Megget Stone bridge. Straight up and down. | AndrewFinnimore | 24/08/2018 |
13.1 mile walk from Talla Linnfoots, followed pass up east then lane, turned onto and climbed fairly steep slopes to top of Carlavin Hill, followed wall to Molls Cleuch Dod, descended and ascended Lochcraig Head up to summit then to edge to see the stunning view down on Loch Skeen, followed edge around to Mid Craig, climbed ridge then across to Great Hill, considerable descent to Games Hope Burn, then re-ascent of Cape Law after followed nice grassy ridge onto Din Law, Garelet Dod, shapely Erie Hill, Lairds Cleuch Rig and finally Garelet Hill with its very damaged trig, then descended very steeply back down to Car. Not a cloud in the sky all day, easy terrain mainly throughout, hot but with lovely breeze, saw about 10 people all day mostly from a far, this must be be a popular area of the Southern Uplands! | DanTrig | 30/06/2018 |
Weather fair. | MountainMac | 06/05/2018 |

1st hill of a big 30km+ circuit linking 20 tops with Darren, running when possible.Lovely dry day. From a camp by Megget Stone.Start frustratingly delayed until mid day whilst we took car into Moffat to have a cracked oil sump looked at. Decided to go for it anyway - inevitable dark descent (in August!) and river to cross for added fun. | Chris Pearson | 03/08/2011 |
Followed ridge from Molls Cleuch Dod down then up Carlavin Hill as a dog leg. | derekblackburn | 21/11/2010 |
