Parked at 48392 71383, over a padlocked gate and up track then on to a track leading off on the right, up to a T junction of tracks, turn right and hp is just off the track on the right. | clivevilla | 24/01/2024 |
A drive around the Newbury-Oxford area. Hoar Hill; Bussock Hill; Snelsmore East Common; Grimsbury Castle; Warren Hill; Blewburton Hill;
Wittenham Clumps. | Mark Jackson | 29/04/2023 |
From gate at SU 48212 71324 into wood, up this with varying amounts of undergrowth, eventually a large track appeared, summit nearby. Followed track back down to the NE, seemingly passing through grounds of a large house. | Aye Jimmy | 08/10/2022 |
Followed faint track from road to summit. Bluebells just starting to appear. | Ramblingpaul | 20/04/2021 |
Parked in entrance to ROW to north (space for one car). Quick up and down. | PGCE | 30/10/2020 |
Didn't have the problems I anticipated from some of the logs. Parked just W of Grange Cottages, ascended just E where there was little ground cover. Nice track along summit area but it goes down through a farm, not a PRoW, so I went back the way I ascended. Only noticed a private sign at W end of common | pwheeler | 25/09/2020 |
2nd of 4 tumps on a traverse from Hermitage to Wickham Heath, climbing Grimsbury Castle then roads to Curridge, taking footpath to the East, veering off when out of sight to curve round, climbing through trees then open downland to then arrive at immature broadleaf plantation. Highest point on bank next to large oak but wandered around quite a bit to make sure. Used track heading West veering off onto lane next to Private sign. Continuing for Bussock hill... | Dazingdale | 21/03/2020 |

Parked on minor road to north. No sign of Private Signs but it was still dark. 10 minutes up and down. | Campbell Singer | 29/03/2018 |
No tracks to the top. No sign of a layby to park. Plenty of 'Private Land' signs so didn't bother. | ijpowell | 07/09/2017 |
Up from minor road to the north parking near the bridleway that heads north. | Dugswell2 | 03/11/2016 |
Boxford to Hermitage. | Smudge | 28/10/2016 |
This top is 2km west of Snelsmore Common proper which was the site of one of the protest camps during the 'Third Battle of Newbury'in 1996 - over the construction of the Newbury bypass which saw a huge anti road protest -both on the ground, up in the tree tops and in tunnels underground. (remember swampy?). Much of the hardcore aggregate came from the breaking up of the runway of the (also controversial with protest camps) former cruise missile site at nearby Greenham Common. | Chris Pearson | 25/05/2016 |
Parked in passing place on road to north and short walk through the bluebells. No idea where the top might have been but wandered about in the young trees a bit and hopefully got pretty close. | Herbert Anchovy | 16/05/2016 |
Left road opposite byway and up through woods and then bluebells to reach track at top. Point on Earth bank probably HP. | PeterD | 30/04/2016 |
The OS map describes this as a common, however as reported by others there is a 'Private Keep Out' however I'm not inclined to believe this. It wouldn't be the first time someone had put up a private sign on common land. Also unlike other signs in the area which identify the estate the land belongs to this one is clearly home made. | Swindon Bagger | 24/01/2016 |
As ngt: even found the tracks left 6 days ago. | GordonAdshead | 04/09/2015 |
Up through wood more or less opposite bridle way going north on other side of road. Woodland not as impenetrable as it first appears. | ngthack | 29/08/2015 |
Appraoched from N after visiting Bussock Hill. Pivate woodland with signs, but no boundary fencing. No obvious summit but man-made ridge running E-W might be highest point. | jonglew | 24/06/2014 |
Limited verge parking to north on minor road near where the byway joins. Roughly opposite byway is a partly overgrown track that leads straight to the top. Flat tree covered summit with no views, really not worth the effort unless you happen to be passing, which we were after a walk around Frilsham. Although it has common in the name there are private signs in the wood, but no fences preventing access from the north. | Hillsidenick | 18/08/2013 |
Bank S side of track. From N, path into *Private* woodland. | RHW | 08/04/2012 |
up the wooded bank to summit, trees felled and young ones planted. | Adrian | 03/03/2011 |
