Parked in lay-by just north of saw mill, into woods and a couple of possible HPs. | PeterD | 21/01/2022 |
Another bag of a hill in messy woodland-much worse than Gore's Hill but there were lines of least resistance thru' the brambles. Best bit was the drive from Gore's Hill with the view of the LSWR's impressive railway viaduct (why aren't they called ferroducts?) | pwheeler | 21/10/2021 |
Parked in entrance to sawmill. Wandered around the wood to N of sawmill to what seemed a suitable highpoint. | PGCE | 27/02/2021 |
Morning bike ride: Three Bridges stn - Tilkhurst Hill - Selsfield Common - Holt's Hill - Gore's Wood - Haywards Heath stn. | Mark Jackson | 03/11/2020 |
Walked from Horley and got as close as possible. Everything closed due to virus. | PhilipChaston | 06/06/2020 |
Balcombe station circular. Timber yard (CCTV monitored) closed on this Saturday afternoon so had to be satisfied with picking up bramble scratches in the woodland. | Smudge | 02/02/2019 |
On way home from Felbridge, with Rosalie, just before rain started. | JOHNS | 30/04/2017 |
From Balcombe Station. Road walk is unpleasant as mainly without pavement | trimarc2 | 18/04/2017 |
Sawmill undergoing massive investment in new building and machinery. Spoke with one of the owners. Used to be a brick yard. All current high ground man-made - thousands of tons of hardcore used to fill old clay pits and raise natural summit and then been concreted over. Original HP may be in woods to N. | jonglew | 16/03/2016 |
First hill of 2016. Took the train to Balcombe and went along the roads to the Sawmill. No one around so we walked to what could have been the top. Despite the promise of the tea rooms the village was closed today. :( So back home for lunch. | Dragonzilla | 14/03/2016 |
Owner of Dragonzilla. We took a nice stroll along the roads to the top with the sawmill. Not many people around at all. | steverd | 14/03/2016 |
Parked easily on road to east. Wandered up and had a walk around. Saw nobody. Timber yard also sells to public. Summit could be anywhere.
Recommend tea rooms in Balcombe - anything from All Day Breakfast to home made large cakes to sandwiches. | destaylor | 20/01/2016 |
As RHW: Old track off road from NE just discernable. | GordonAdshead | 12/08/2015 |
Estate timber yard. Several highpoint contenders around buildings but all modified ground and no obvious highpoint - OS spot height as good a place as any | RHW | 28/06/2015 |
Summit is among a cluster of sawmill sheds. As luck would have it I needed a replacement fence post and so found myself negotiating for a 8 foot 4 by 4 (they only had oak at £20- too expensive)whilst eyeing up the surrounding area to confirm I was on the high spot. 1km to the SW lies the (abandoned?) Balcombe proposed fracking site which led to protests in the summer of 2013. | Chris Pearson | 13/05/2015 |
Parked in entrance, closed and cctv, wandered around until highest point. | AngusDog | blank |
