Logged Descriptions  (logged by 41 users)ByDate of Ascent
First hill for two weeks after resting last week due to catheter issues. Parked at wide entrance to bridleway on corner of Eastchurch Road. Happens to also be field entrance for farm vehicles with good track to follow around to north of summit where conveniently there is a track heading south directly over summit. Looked to be a slightly higher knoll to the east which can also be reached by returning to track to north and again branching south. First hill of 2 day trip straight from home.mntainman14/03/2024
By bike via Harty Ferry and Shellness then home to Gillingham. High growing Maze field, corn-on-the-cob.DRS29/08/2023
Parked in housing estate to east. Via cut-through path to B road. Easy access to field. Then the fun begins - sweet corn growing in the field this year. The summit is best visited out of growing season. Felt like one of those corn mazes I've seen advertised!Minto30/06/2023
1st of 9 Tumps for the day. Parked at the bend in the road to the east. No fence preventing access into the field. Decent views to the south from the flat summit.Mark Jackson07/01/2023
Followed tractor tracks and a bit of a wander to the GR location, this year it is wheat in the field. The mud bank that PGCE mentioned is now a sizable raised plateau and definitely higher than the field and reservoir and is starting to be colonised by plants. In the middle of writing this log I did a bit of research and it seems we wandered in to the back of the Norwood Farm landfill site which takes bottom ash from waste to energy incinerators, so probably not the healthiest place to be.DC11main13/06/2021
At dusk, from the corner of the B road. Around field edge then along tractor tracks. Also visited large pile of soil, which was very claggy on the top - danger of losing a boot!PGCE24/11/2020
From sharp bend to east. Around edge and then back to HP along tramlines.PeterD24/10/2020
Had to walk round the perimeter to access new tramlines for the recently planted crop.. Highly unexciting. Parked at the sharp bend to the east.Campbell Singer17/10/2020
Pleasant coastal walk to access somewhat uninspiring levelish cabbage field, near water tower. Large nearby mound of earth is of similar height but its function is a mystery to us.Denise 21/01/2020
From Minster beach via cliff top path before heading inland to the gently domed arable field (turnips?) Huge bank of fresh 'soil' to the SSE is as high if not higher and associated with the Shubsoles Hill quarry and landfill site but is only temporary storage until 2026 - or so the planning consent says.RichardM21/01/2020
Cabbage field.Bramley31/10/2019
Kent completion, the day after Jon Glew. Not a very inspiring hill, but it is a SIB.ngthack14/11/2018
Had a walk up here from the Abbey. Walked along the field edge, but as this not on a footpath i did not venture to far. Ground is recently ploughed, wet and muddy.dave-harris10/11/2018
Parked on corner at 97239 72139. Reservoir is higher and there is a gap between a hedge and a temporary fence at 97043 72139.clivevilla27/04/2018
A muddy trek into the field.Ramblingpaul13/12/2017
As others have indicated, this is easy in the autumn. There's nothing but dry soil in the field.Pete R07/09/2017

Ground prepared for next years crop so easy access today after parking near water tower.Dugswell208/09/2016
From 90deg bend in road to E of hill. Followed tractor lines in maturing barley crop to HP.jonglew01/07/2016
Sheerness to Minster then circular via Norwood Manor.Smudge05/02/2016
A trig 'n tump walk on Sheppey in very mild conditions for December.Alex C18/12/2015
Battle of the bean field. From field entrance near public footpath signs. Beans easier than nettles on other routes.Martin R23/06/2015
Bean field fight following tractor tracks through shoulder high crop behind water tower. Highpoint of Isle of Sheppy reached over the Sheppy Crossing bridge (built 2006) where a 130 car pile up happened in fog in 2013. The island has a busy port (Sheerness), miles of nature reserve marshes, many holiday chalet parks, a pioneering airfield used by the Wright brothers, and 3 prisons - having housed the MP John Taylor for MP expenses fraud and Jonathan Aitkin. Earlier residents of Sheppey included the Vikings who used it as winter camp and the Dutch who in 1667 gave Sheppey the dubious distinction of being one of few parts of what is now the United Kingdom to be (temporarily) lost to a foreign power since William the Conqueror's invasion in 1066.Chris Pearson15/06/2015
From N, followed resr fence then tractor tramlines.RHW21/02/2015
Easy out-and-back across corn stubble (time your visit for post-harvest!) No fence into field. However, personally I thought ground in the inaccessible reservoir compound to the north was actually higher, but didn't have a GPS to check (strolled along the fence just in case...)wheresthepath16/08/2014
Field planted and crops growing. Will return after the harvest. Its about a 150m walk across a fairly flat fielddestaylor06/03/2014
