Around and around. | Martin R | 11/10/2023 |
We hadn't realised how to get to the car park for this bonus tump (intended for the next 2 days) so started from Norton Green where there is a RoW up to the country park. A pleasant walk round the fort gave us the HP. With Pete; we went into Yarmouth after so he could bag his last churchon IOW in the Simon Jenkins '100 best English Churches' book. | pwheeler | 12/06/2023 |
Last hill of 7 on walk around the SW part of island, then on to Lymington Ferry. 15.5 miles. | trimarc2 | 03/04/2023 |
Buses to Totland via Newport then a fun day in the wind and rain (it was drier in the afternoon) along muddy paths. Golden hill then straight onto the coastal path to Headon Hill, past Needles Pleasure Park, then followed the road to Old Battery and Scratchell's Bay before heading up to West High Down and along to Tennyson Down. | Buck | 14/01/2023 |
Managed to miss the road to the country park car park - down the side of the factory. Explored all around the sunken summit fort. Some serious landscaping must have been undertaken here. | Minto | 13/01/2023 |

Bus to Freshwater (School Green). ROW up and around ramparts. | PGCE | 03/12/2021 |
Found some (free) parking above Totland Bay and straight onto the coastal path to Headon Hill. Down to Needles Pleasure Park, its tackiness relieved only by the lovely shingle shore and multi-coloured cliffs below. Then we followed the road to Old Battery and Scratchell's Bay before heading up to West High Down and along the chalk path to Tennyson Down. By now refreshments were demanded, so we continued to Freshwater Bay. Duly satiated, we took the Freshwater Way path to Black Bridge then along the old railway line to the Red Lion next to the church, before heading west to School Green along a narrow walkway. This ran into Golden Hill Country Park and its summit fort. After a circle of the defensive bank we went along the red squirrel trail, popping up in Colwell and rejoining the coastal footpath to Colwell Chine, an ice cream stop, then Widdick Chine and back to the camper. A grand day out! | summitter | 29/09/2021 |

Berthed at Yarmouth Harbour. walked to impressive Palmerston Fort now converted to appealing holiday apartments. We think the HP is on the SE side of the ramparts . | Denise | 31/10/2015 |
FromYarmouth via field paths and minor roads. Top is a near level circular mound which srrounds the red brick Golden Hill Palmerston Fort. We settle on the SE side of the mound as the high point. All seems very manmade. Fort is now appartments with some interesting holiday accommodation. | RichardM | 31/10/2015 |
First hill within 10 minutes of getting off the ferry. Went anticlockwise! With Kathy & Cow. 26 to go. | Play2End | 07/06/2015 |
Quick stroll from car park | citygent | 04/06/2014 |
Concur with previous logger on location of the summit. Top of the fort is actually higher, but is it man-made? Trig bolt reportedly on roof of fort and cut benchmark on wall on approach to gate. | jonglew | 09/05/2014 |
