Started from A712 just E of Craigdews. Followed vehicle track and crossed to path running above W side Tonderghie Burn to join forestry road until NW of Poultrybuie Hill. Short rough ascent to Poultrybuie Hill, then back to track for a while and then short climb to nice summit of Munwhul. Back to track and across to walk N around W side of (felled) forestry to reach ridge and steady ascent to Cairngarroch (quite complex summit area, visiting various high points as well as the cairn. Returned along ridge and continued to Millfore, the interesting top of Gairy of Pulnee, back to Millfore SW top, easy descent S and across to Fell of Talnotry. Descent through forest ride and then rough felled forest to forestry road followed on S side of Black Loch and back to start. Mainly misty and drizzle but some clearances | RobertP | 23/11/2021 |
From Black Loch forest car park (NX 4992 7300). Excellent forest road to NX 4856 7223 then up through breaks. On to Poultrybuie Hill -> Munwhul -> Darnaw -> Craignell -> Brockloch Hill for a 10 mile round across a lot of very bad ground. | jonglew | 05/05/2021 |
murrays monument, fell of talnotry, poultrybuie hill, munwhul, darnaw, craignell, brockloch hill, from the cp. | robertphillips | 04/03/2020 |
10th and penultimate top on a 30km route from Auchenleck car park to Murray's monument, climbing Bennan Hill, Gairy of Pulnee, Millfore Sw top, Millfore,Munwhul, Cairngarroch, Darnaw, Craignell and Poultrybuie Hill, heading South from the cairn to the pylons then following a track underneath to the Grey Mare's Tail Burn but it was too wide to cross so I followed it into the forest Nw and waded across at a shallow point over the gravel. Back under the pylons to exit the forest and then head direct for the summit, recording 362m @ NX 48206 72665 then descent South on ride, deteriorating so a forest thrash until reaching the track, then off to Murray's monument.... | Dazingdale | 26/08/2018 |
Undulating heathery ridge with several possible high points. Lovely blue skies and lack of midges compensated from the unpleasant brash on approach | Denise | 26/03/2018 |
From the S over felled trees then fire break to the wide SW-NE trending ridge. Several heather/grass/mossy knolls vie for high point. | RichardM | 26/03/2018 |
#1 of 6 from Black Loch. Forest road, intermittent path NE bank Grey Mares Tail, dodgy bridge where turns SW into forest, open forest WNW to summit, SW & NE summits about same height. Then NE to Poultrybuie via powerline ATV service track | RHW | 25/03/2018 |
En route to the close-by final control on the KIMM A Class. | summitsup | 26/10/1986 |
