2 of 4 from the small parking area. | robertphillips | 10/03/2024 |
2/8 on a 4 hr yomp around very rough moorland. This however was a grassy easy pickings from gate and back on nearby track. A flag was flying on the ruined 'castle' on the small island of Eilean Tighe Bhain in Loch Tromlee traditionally said to have been the seat of the McQuorquodales of Phantilands until it was sacked by the army of Alasdair Colkitto MacDonald in 1646. They must have used boats - as the island, rises to about 2 metres above the water level of the loch but, although parts of the loch are very shallow, there is no evidence for the existence of any causeway. | Chris Pearson | 10/11/2023 |
Followed the private road from the Ballimore entrance CP, detouring along an ATV track to Cnoc Lomain, over a field gate to its North Top, through a sheep fank and up a sheep trod to Barr a' Ghlaoigh Mor, then another ATV route up to Creag Thulach. Approached Meall an Fhithich from the SE, initially following a fence line up to Lochan na Cuaig. A meandering route over to Creag an Aonaich then SW to pick up a faint track through the adjacent forestry. A reasonably wide break aids access to Cnoc Lochan a' Bhealaich then its back to the minor track, which becomes a proper stone track further west, until SE of Cnoc Lochan a' Bhealaich. I followed a fence line then demolished wall until S of summit then up through first long grass then conifer crawl to the summit. The final hill of the day was the much more straightforward Cnoc Dubh Loch, although a deer fence clamber was still required before reaching grazed grass. Returned to car along the B845, getting on to it from Barachander Farm. Lov | summitter | 30/10/2023 |
Easy diversion from the road | Colin Crawford | 28/11/2022 |
From road junction with Ballimore track up Cnoc Lomain, its North Top, Barr a Ghlaoigh Mor, Meall an Fhithich via fire breaks, Creag Thulach via more fire breaks and out to its trig. | sclater | 21/02/2021 |
10th tump of 12th on a traverse from Taynuilt to the Taychreggan hotel, climbing Cnoc Ichrachan, Tom nan Aighean, Creag Bhainneach, Cnoc Lochan a' Bhealaich, Creag an Aonaich, Meall an Fhitich and Creag Thulach and Barr a' Ghlaoigh Mor and Cnoc Dubh Loch descending steeply through the Bluebell wood and on a direct line with the top. Over a fence just past the track and upto a prominent grassy knoll of a similar height and then continued to the current summit grid ref by descending to join track and minimmse the amount of rough ground i needed to cover to get Cnoc Lomain.. | Dazingdale | 05/05/2019 |
5of5: From Meall an Fhithich. | ChrisR | 08/11/2018 |
From Cnoc Lomain after parking at new walkers' car park (NN 0405 2438). As vegibagger points out, there are 5 x 150m contour rings and 4 of them are very similar in height (the one at NN 0514 2509 is substantially lower than the others). The GR on here gave me 159m; 2 of the others gave 162m; another 160m; and one came in at 161m. What a fun time was had, luckily the weather was good! On to Barr a' Ghlaoigh Mor via a direct route over the rough. | jonglew | 25/07/2018 |
5 different 150m contour rings. Best to visit all | vegibagger | 23/05/2018 |
Parking at new gate for walkers. Hot sunny. calm and good views. | iangalbraith | 18/06/2016 |
From B845 along Ballimore road to brand-new gate on right after Loch Tromlee, then on faint paths to alternative top, then to top of similar height closer to road (just to make sure), then east to the “official” summit. Down to another brand-new gate to the north-west, then back to the B845 for the bus to Oban. Warm for mid-October, with plenty of sunshine and good views of the south face of Ben Cruachan. | mainnirnamfiadh | 17/10/2015 |
