2 of 5 on 59.5 mile bike ride including Sheffield’s hill, walks end hill, saxby wold, patchetts cliff and ash holt. Lots of hunters around near here. Made a quick dash left the bike at road side and a quick run across newly ploughed field | The-Z-Man | 05/01/2019 |
Verge parking near 67m spot height; quick nip across the field. Either pylon could be the HP, visited both. | jonglew | 26/09/2018 |
Starting in Scunthorpe I followed the Trent Valley Way to Alkborough but veered off first to climb this across a large field of parsnip remnants, across minor road then a shirt distance to visit ground next to two pylons. I also checked higher ground to the eye about 35-40m away. Retraced route to the trail to the end then continued to Trent Falls and on dyke to Whitton finishing in Winteringham for bus to Scunthorpe, train to Nottingham via Sheffield.. | Dazingdale | 05/10/2017 |
Last Hill of the day. Parked in road and ran across field to pylon | Ramblingpaul | 04/11/2016 |
Sun going down in one direction, moon coming up in the other.
Tractor track to pylon. Went to other pylon to make sure it wasn't higher. | PeterD | 20/06/2016 |
Parked at bend 875204. Walked along road to 876204, then followed tractor tracks through young crop to pylon. | ngthack | 14/06/2016 |
Next to the pylons. Picked my way along tyre tracks in planted field. | Campbell Singer | 21/04/2016 |
Parked at the bend in the road a short distance away. My view is that the high point lies in the field somewhere between two pylons. | yorkie | 25/02/2016 |
Parked on grass verge on minor road to SW at SE 87410 20093. Easy c70m stroll to 'summit pylon' over winter crop stubble. Pylon in question is the northernmost and the one nearest to road. It is also in the centre of of 70m 10k geograph contour ring. | David Gradwell | 14/02/2016 |
Walked from Burton to Walcot along the cliff path then returning via the road..walked out to the pylon...quickly | steven ruffles | 10/02/2016 |
One correction to an earlier post, this top is in Lincolnshire!! The top is the highest point of Burton Hills and this is the name used on the information panels in the area. Only takes a couple of minutes from the car (if that) but, if in the area, it is worthwhile visiting Julian's Bower at Alkborough (good parking and a 2 minute walk). Also, almost unknown, is the top secret WWII tank training ground where amphibious Duplex-drive tanks were tested before being shipped off to amphibious landings overseas. As the area was deemed similar to the Rhine an artifical crossing was built across the Trent using railway sleepers. Much remains to be seen. To see it, drive south to the sharp left bend. On the right a track goes off with a parking sign indicating parkind places about 100m down. From these, two good paths lead downwards to the old training site. Worth seeing. | moorsman | 31/12/2015 |
Cereal field. | Adrian | 08/08/2015 |
Stubble field, summit poorly defined, elec pylon base as good a spot as any | RHW | 07/12/2014 |
now two rows of pylons, a second has been added to the ones on my 1994 nmap, plus re-visit to the Alkborough trig. Wish I'd known about a labyrinth at Julians bower very nearby which my friend in Horncastle told me about later. | vegibagger | 06/09/2014 |
Field had just been cut. I agree that the high point is by the pylon. | bolieve | 30/08/2014 |
Another unsatisfactory East Yorks summit. Took reading at roadside banking but may be higher at nearby pylon. Field had wheat ready to cut so didn't trample it. | Aye Jimmy | 14/08/2014 |
By pylon in cereal field. | Dugswell2 | 02/08/2014 |
I agree with the previous visitor that the high point is probably nearer the second pylon to the east of the road. | Father Ted | 18/01/2014 |
Top probably just off the road by pylon | Bramley | 16/08/2013 |
