Not the easy roadside bag first seen on glancing the map. Once over the fences a steep pull to the monument. | lordtonult | 28/01/2024 |
From layby at the edge of Dolphinton. Some bushes and a fence to get through into the field, but then easy going up to the monument. | Tisteln | 08/12/2023 |

From the layby as others. Raced up and got the heart working nicely. | sclater | 26/11/2020 |
A prominent mound (kame) of glacial meltwater sand (from 'just' 19,000yrs ago) that formed when sand and gravel accumulated in a hollow in a retreating glacier. The mound forms the south-east extension of the Dolphinton Gap deposits which are thought to have been deposited by meltwater issuing from the valley of the South Medwin. This is a fluviogeologists 'dream' area with kames and kettle holes, incised meltwater channels (e.g. evocative Windy Gowl at nearby Carlops), and even eskers. Only really missing an actual glacier. Note to return to follow the route in Scottish Borders geology: an excursion guide. From layby across double fence with scratchy trees forming a hedge then wet grass upwards to fine memorial cairn. | Chris Pearson | 13/07/2020 |
Up from opposite the bus stop, down to the SW where the fence was easy to step over. Windy. | fasgadh | 08/02/2020 |
