Looking out at sea to it from the coast path, walking from Mullion to Predannack Head with Syd, at high tide | Valerie | 21/10/2023 |
Kayak from Poldhu cove with Pete, on way to the Lizard. Swell only a couple of feet but a swim landing still easiest, with Pete holding my kayak offshore. | AndyS | 13/09/2020 |
Kayak from Mullion Cove harbour with the McLellans and RHW arriving there soon after sunrise. Moderate swell enabled a landing on rocks on NE side of island, but not without difficulties, as was the departure, with some capsizing involved. Obvious rocky summit to W end. Had a look at The Vro on the way out and back - it's off limits to scramblers! | jonglew | 20/10/2018 |
Sunny, calm paddle across from Mullion Cove at low water neaps +2 in the supportive company of Jon, Rob and Richard. A small kayak- sized harbour between flattish wave- washed slabs on the North east side provided a reasonable landing area, with slabs on which to haul the kayaks out of the water. It was then an easy ascent over slabs, guano and some low vegetation to the obvious slab outcrop at the summit on the SW corner. No birds present. Re launching the kayaks proved a little more difficult with 1-2 m of swell and a rising tide. We then kayaked across the sunny bay to assess the Vro, which looked like a climb, potentially accessible from slabs to the SE from a low tide beach. We returned to Mullion cove/harbour with an easy exit on the pebbly beach. Low water is the best time to do this island- springs would be better than neaps. After 30 September parking is permitted on the harbour approach road- arrive early to ensure space . NT launch fee payable at cafe. | Denise | 20/10/2018 |
A delightfully pleasant short paddle from Porth Mellin to the slabby NE corner of Mullion Island where with careful timing the 1m swell drops one neatly into a small pool amongst the slabs. All very convenient 1hr before low water. (Neaps +2 (2.5m)) Easily up slabs then along the broad bird free ridge of the island to prominent rock outcrop summit. Cloudless skies, warm sunshine. | RichardM | 20/10/2018 |
From Mullion harbour early morn with Jon Richard and Denise, easy paddle out and reasonable landing E side near NE corner in inlet then easy slabby scramble, upper part tree mallow interspersed with bare areas where birds have bred. Well defined rocky summit. About 1m swell E side, impressively rough W side! Landed at low neap tide, a little more awkward leaving, I capsized twice! Easy parking in Oct, good bird free time to go. | RHW | 20/10/2018 |
