A detour from the SUW, when walking from St Mary’s Loch towards Traquair. No track once you leave the SUW path, but reasonably good ground with easily identifiable and avoidable bogs. No view - thick mist! Pleasantly atmospheric though!Toby-and-Dion17/02/2024

Parked at Traquair up via SUW over Blake Muir.colazione26/11/2023
Followed the SUW from Kirkhouse Kirk CP. Lovely route through grazed fields then open moorland to Blake Muir and Pt.479m, then ATV track to Deuchar Law. Less obvious path to the less obvious summit of Whiteknowe Head then picked old and overgrown FP over Peat Hill to Glenshiel Banks. From here it's a surprisingly pleasant road walk back to Kirkhouse, passing through the even more pleasant Glen House hamlet. 3.5hrs.summitter24/11/2023
circuit of the Glen from KirkhouseBLACKHILL17/10/2023
from Kirkhouse via Southern Upland Way and Blake Muir. Left S U W at highpoint and went in [wiggly] straight line to summit, but this was very rough going. It would have been better to have gone another 300m along the track to a gate and then picked up a rough vehicle track part way to the summit, which was the much better return route I took.IanHHill16/10/2023
Backpacking round from Innerleithen, parking in woodland car park just to N of bridge over the Tweed. Joined Southern Upland way at Traquair, then diverted to Blake Muir. Continued to Deuchar Law then WSW to find forest ride (start of originally planned path blocked by row of felled trees) heading to Bught Rig and down to use footbridge across Douglas Burn near bottom of Ritty Cleuch (not shown on map). Climbed curving ridge to Deepslack Knowe. Continued W over rough ground to reach beallach S of Black Law and continued to Conscleuch Head and Broomy Law. Contoured round to Henderland Hill and descended E to Old Kirkstead, crossing Kirkstead Burn with footbidge. Followed track through Dryhope (farm) to reach Southern Upland Way. Diverted to climb Ward Law, and descended NNE to rejoin the Way. Crossed the bridge at Craighope and climbed Craig Hill N Top. Contunued by fence N to rejoin the Way and reverse outward route. Rain for much of route and misty at times.RobertP06/10/2023

From NT 3057 3361, parking for 3 cars opposite the lodge. Took the CBDR track initially, then veered off up to Birks Hill, Birkscairn Hill, Stake Law, Dun Rig, Whiteknowe Head then followed fenceline down to 388m spot height before cutting up in a direct line to here. On to Blake Muir and return for an 18.6k round.jonglew03/11/2022

quad tracks are in good condition. Starting to get a touch wet under foot in places, but to be expectedsam.g.guthrie18/10/2020
Parked on the road outside the church in Kirkhoyse to the north east, followed the southern upland way to pt479 and from there it is a wet tussocks walk over to the small summit cairn of Deuchar Law, returned the same way and completed in three hours for just over seven miles.WAYNE ROWLETT05/10/2020
Parked N of Glenlude. Blake Muir then Deuchar Law.PGCE26/02/2020
Parked 50m south of the drive to Glenlude, east of Deuchar Law where there is space for 2 cars. Then a 2.5km walk out following atv and sheep tracks to the top. Plenty snow making it hard workSimon Winton10/01/2020
With Susan and Lionel Bidwell. Parked at Kirkhouse (9:35) and followed S Upland Way to highest point and then over trackless tussocky ground to summit. Found some faint paths on the way back. Finished 14:45. Good weather, hazy but could see to the Cheviot.dbb06/07/2019

Out and back from Traquair Kirk on a glorious day. SUW is excellent underfoot so it was only a short off piste over relatively easy ground on the last kilometre to the top.SS12/05/2019
From Southern Upland Way with Mary Bambrough and Graham Jackson. Parked 0.3 mile S of Kirkhouse, on return discovered we could have parked in Kirkhouse Cemetery just N of the track. Galltywenallt25/10/2018
Solo trip from Glen House/The Glen. Good blaeberries.Invicta1424/07/2018
Fairly easy ascent from Whiteknowe Head. Then down Deuchar Rig to the lovely glen. After two grotty days, it felt like spring in the calm and bright conditions. Back to the car past impressive Glen House.Owen B01/04/2018
Parked at car park next to grave yard at Kirkhouse, Solo. Temperature -3°. Up the fine grassy track that is the Southern Upland Way. Small deviation from SUW to the summit of Blake Muir. Back to SUW. From vicinity of spot height 479m across rough ground to Deuchar Law. Found a track with signs of recent use passing a little below the summit on the east side so followed it. It goes to a curious high wooden structure (to do with shooting?). Just short of this structure a track goes off E with no signs of recent use. I followed it to point 466m on Blake Muir. Looks as though it continues down to the Glen. Followed fence to rejoin SUW and so back to Kirkhouse. Nice dry and sunny day.pwbellarby19/11/2017
Solo as part of through walk on a v wet day.VerySlowPlodder05/10/2017
Up the southern uplands way from Kirkhouse church car park. Few showers to start lead to a bog flog over moor to the top. Nice views on way down of Innerleithen.mindlessflogger31/07/2017
From Whiteknowe Head via forest edge in blustery damp snow.agentmancuso04/02/2017
An interesting curate's egg type of walk. Up the Drove road to Birks Hill (signposted with Spanish bulls instead of Scottish ones), with an inversion over Innerleithen and Peebles - nice. Nice easy path on to Birkscairn Hill. Hard snow patches on Dun Rig gave slight respite from the bogs. The summit seems to be marked with a fencepost stuck in the highest bit of bog. Down via Peat Hill (a rough thrash even on the faint ATV tracks) and a pleasant grassy climb on to Deuchar Law, which looks grassy but is capped by monstrous vegetables. Perversely, I kept following ATV tracks which went in the wrong direction, so much of the thankfully short walk along the top was a wade through deep vegetables. Bitter irony, I found a good ATV track about 5 feet from the cairn. The descent above Glenshiel Banks and Loch Eddy is utterly fabulous, and makes up for the suffering. The walk back through the Glen is also lovely, passing a mausoleum to the memory of Charles and Henry Tennant.Gill03/12/2016
From Traquair Kirk (Kirkhouse) ample parking on narrow road. Used Southern Upland Way over Blake Moor, lovely path through grassland. Short moorland tramp to summit. If you keep your eyes pealed you may find a Waymerk Kist.N.Morters02/07/2016
Parked in layby on B709 and quick up and down via E ridge. Mostly easy ground.AndrewFinnimore31/05/2016
From Kirkhouse churchyard up SU Way, back via The Glen. OK weather. View. Rounsfell02/05/2016
4th hill of 10 today on my own alternative Southern Upland way route starting from Tibbie shiel's Inn on St. Mary's loch and finishing at the Caddon view country hotel in Innerleithen. Climbed Nether Hill, The Wiss, Ward Law and then back onto the SUW where it exits the forest. Took a bearing but used track for most of the way before veering off to the summit. Took a bit to identify the summit area, then descended en-route to Whiteknowe head.Dazingdale14/05/2015

From top of pass up through Glenlude Wood (now JMT) to Glenlude Hill and across to summit.Chris Peart28/11/2014
Got permission to park at Orchard Mains then walked up The Glen. Thus we could do a circuit, finishing on the SUW which uses the old military road over Blake Muir where some original construction is clearly evident. Deuchar Law was an almost an incidental point on the walk. It is a poor summit, though the views to White Coomb/Broad Law were very fine.pwheeler14/09/2014
Parked a T-junction NT302335 near Glen House - Glenshiel Banks - WNW to summit of Dun Rig - Whiteknowe Head - Deuchar Law - N. down Deuchar Rig - Track down The Glen to Glen House. 10½ miles. (PM,CM)gerrybowes06/05/2014

from Paddock Slack. very rough route not recommended. From E best is via Glenlude farm and 4 wd track which gets you past the worst of the bracken until it peters out 1km from summit. 3rd and worst of 5 on the dayThearlaichdubh20/07/2013
2nd of the day. Started at top of pass in a sleet shower and headed west up the track but it led only to a habitation. Its occupants helpfully told me the way through the forest to Glenlude hill and on west to another forest. Continued west to and around next forest before turning N to summit.Topographer5712/12/2012
