Parked next to train track in alvecote over footbridge and took footpath into wooded area followed a short way till steepish muddy climb to tall golden structure at the top. Descended down the other side and into the country park. Came back on the canal with the kids. First hill in new MotorhomeThe-Z-Man30/04/2023
16:00, 11 degrees, north-westerlies, sunny. From works to south. En-route from Worksop to Wycombe. The sci-fiesque summit feature glistered gold against the blue sky.Wycombe Wanderer06/04/2023
Parked to NW on Robey's Lane next to picnic area on a cold a sleety afternoon. Followed ROW to base of man-made coal mining waste hill. Look out for mountain bikers! Curious monument on the summit, which has reasonable views for a low hill. With FelixRoguePulsar08/03/2023
Parked next to a picnic area, walked down the road to a path next to the canal, went down the path past some small lakes, saw a Kingfisher! Went up a steep path to the top, there was a big metal yellow pillar at the top. Went with Dad.speedyclimber08/03/2023
Parked to the SSE in large carpark. £3 card only. SK258033.David Evans11/12/2022

From footpath to South east, having walked along canal from Polesworth- free carparking by library. Steep birch covered sides, levelled top with pleasant but odd golden obelisk. Foggy. Lots of paths- descended to Alvecote Pools. Restored mining spoil.Denise 26/12/2021

Parked at gate to picnic area, just south of the canal bridge, near Alvecote. Lovely walk along the canal then back through the woods. Solo.Dangerous Dave10/04/2021

Room for a couple of cars at SK 2505 0434. RoW between canal and rly track to SK 2550 0377 where a track leads off to the summit.jonglew19/08/2020
Easy. Combine with Alvecote Pools SSSI nature reserve for a great combination of hill, wood, water and canal all in under 2 miles.ijpowell30/05/2020

Space for one car opposite pub driveway just after bridge to NW. Followed RoW then climbed up steep slopes to top just as Sun was setting - made the golden sculpture at the top even more interesting. Back same way and glad for having packed a head torch.Wheelsy13/09/2019

A landscaped coal spoil tip, canal, railway, motorway flyover -all imaginatively combined into an interesting small country park, with downhill mountain bike routes from the summit. Pooley Pit was one of over 21 Warwickshire pits that since the 1700s until 1980s mined the 40 mile long by 20 mile wide Warickshire coalfield from Coventry to Tamworth. Coal being moved since the 1750s by the canal network -here the Coventry canal which continues to join the Trent/ Mersey canal. The striking gold leaf summit structure connects people with nature, so the architects claim. They also supplied HSBC with art work for their HQ (which presumably connects people with money?).Chris Pearson28/03/2019
Nice golden obelisk on summit. From the country park car park, under the motorway, over the canal and then short steepish climb. The country park is sign posted off the B5000 in Polesworth.Herbert Anchovy26/03/2019

Now £2.50 to park but £1.30 for a coffee. No views due to fog.Dugswell224/02/2019
4th and final tump of an 18.3 mile route from Nuneaton to Tamworth station climbing Mount Jud, Hartshill Pyramid and Baddesley Colliery descending Nne to pick up theoretical fp leading to A5 then another fp heading North (again no sign on the ground) through vast field to reach fp leading to Birchmoor then across to Polesworth via a series of connecting paths then fp past Pooley Hall and over the M42, a brief section along the canal and over the bridge to then ascend steeply up a wide bare rubbly slope to reach the beautiful Golden leaf column looking great with blue sky and cirrus clouds as a backdrop. Descent Sw to track leading through the ponds back onto the canal, that I then followed most of the way, continuing on road where it veers off to finish at Tamworth station. What a day!Dazingdale24/02/2019
Driven by on M42 numurous times. Today stopped at pooley country park. Free parking if staying for less than an hour.cjo11/11/2018
Coal mining spoil heap, landscaped and now part of Pooley Fields nature reserve. Wide track starts from the S side and makes a gentle spiral ascent through birch woods to the barren summit topped by 18m(?) tall golden pillar the cross section of which represents the shape of a beech leaf - why, I don't know. Great views will soon be lost to the rapidly growing birch. And again on:- 26-12-2021 with Denise. The column cries out to be climbed - but far too hard for me. Overcast, dull, dreek.RichardM25/06/2018
Driven by on many an occasion. From car parkRamblingpaul10/04/2018
The column at the top was taller than I expected.Alancache22/02/2018

Up the slippery slope from Country Park down Pooley Lane, under M/Way and over canal to very impressive structure at topMark Sims16/01/2018
Came down M18/M1/M42 from Barlow Mound. Just managed to hobble up (and down) the very slippery direct track from the Visitor Centre. Home at 1630.GordonAdshead06/01/2018
From visitor centre car park - direct ascent and more leisurely circular descent.Bramley30/12/2017

From the canal bridge, FP and MTB tracks all the way. Finally got to complete the county.PeterD29/11/2017
From the canal bridge to the west, through the park then left up the slag heap. Third time of completing Warwickshire.clivevilla15/11/2017
Remembrance day 1100 from NW as others although probably easier parking at Heritage Centre just to S. Cettis warbler making itself heard above railway noise, lovely Autumn stroll to recomplete WarwickshireRHW11/11/2017
Same approach as originally described by ab. Make sure you're on the correct side of the canal at the start!Aye Jimmy09/11/2017
From railway bridge. Gold leaf pillar looked fabulous in early morning sun. Warwickshire & Trent catchment regained. Also my 4,000th hill on h-b. Splendid hill for a spoil heap.ngthack08/11/2017
Wish I had a pound for every time I've driven past. If so I wouldn't be hill bagging for a living. A canal, a main line railway and the M42 for good measure. And yet it is a pleasant walk through the woods to the top and its unusual obelisk. Didn't see Andrew hiding in the woods.Campbell Singer07/11/2017
Parking at the railway bridge to the north west. Nice walk through the woods to the well covered slag heap.andrew brown07/11/2017
From Alvecote marina, through Pooley Country Park & along canal, interesting 'Gold Leaf tower' on old spoil heap, warm, some cloud & Sun.apricorum31/07/2017
Orienteered over and round this hill on numerous occasions, since it was first mapped about 15 years ago. Often thought it might be a Tump. This was my latest visit.JohnW05/06/2016
