One of Dudley's 4 limestone hills at the edge of the urban Black Country overlooking rural Staffordshire. It's geological fossil significance includes it in the Black Country Geopark, a list of worldwide superlative geological locations. Unfortunately the map on geopark.org website showing all the worldwide locations has this one in the sea off East Anglia!
The Beacon site is one of the chain of hills that lit fires to signal the arrival of the Spanish armada at the shores of England during Elizabethan times. The circular tower -Sedgley Beacon - is a Victorian tower built under Lord Wrottersley and said to be his tower for observing the night sky. This contrasts with the current park plan that says there is a general presumption that parks and open spaces are not intended for use at night! (and that
therefore lighting is inappropriate) | Chris Pearson | 26/02/2024 |

I've (been) driven past Sedgley Beacon for close on 60 years but never visited. The traffic on Birmingham road, so bad, I parked up and went for a walk. Why did I wait so long? | M3WDD | 04/01/2022 |

Another proper Black Country summit. The hill feels more like a proper hill if you approach through the old quarries from the NW. Did as part of a 12km run from Wren's Nest avoiding roads as much as possible. A surprisingly nice run despite the urban nature. | sturuss | 17/01/2021 |
Flat covered reservoir. Solo. | Dangerous Dave | 07/07/2020 |
Parked in Beacon Lane just south of the summit then continued north on foot. The summit is on your right behind a difficult fence but, if you continue, there is a path that goes right to the summit area. Extensive views. | clivevilla | 24/04/2020 |
Man made top? Reservoir top is at least 1m higher than surrounding ground. | andrew brown | 12/04/2020 |

Continued over summit after exploring County Boundary before finishing at my Airbnb in Goldthorn. I had also climbed Netherton hill, Warley Park, Turner's Hill, Cawney Hill, Dudley Castle and Wren's Nest. | Dazingdale | 30/06/2018 |
From the E end of Springfield Grove past allotments to the Sedgley Boundary. This seemed to be in a very silly place, so went looking for higher points. | Aye Jimmy | 17/02/2018 |
