With Peterb. Started at the Cwm Cywarch car park then up the ATV track to Y Gribin. From there followed the grassy ridge to summit. Onto Aran Fawddwy after. | bowlesy | 26/06/2023 |
From the carpark at Cywarch we walked back along the road to the track leading up to Y Gribin which we summited. We continued on to Glasgwm and then on to Aran Fawddwy before descending to Drysgol and back to the carpark. | Peterb | 26/06/2023 |
Cwm Cywarch - Glasgwm - Pen y Brynfforchog - Y Gribin | JHes | 06/05/2023 |
Free parking in the Cwm Cywarch car park, donation box is located there for Welsh air ambulance. Nice hike up the valley especially when the waterfalls are in full flow, great views of the Craig Cywarch cliffs.
Walk today was to summit Galsgwm and Pen Y Brynfforchog, nice easy hike but did find it quite difficult to find a path back down from the last mountain, got there in the end. | Buckleymon | 12/01/2023 |
Parked in the small car park by the A470 at Bwlch Oerwddrws (top of pass). One of the hottest days of the year, this was a real slog: Pen y Brynnfforchog, Pen y Brynnfforchog North Top, Glasgwm and Pen Ochr y Bwlch on the way down. Walked after abandoning a bigger walk in the Rhinogs. | Lazylizzie | 14/08/2022 |
1/4 Circuit of the Western Arans on a very hot day. As per Nuttall book except we worked our way round the forest in South South East direction to access the forest track more easily after Pen y Brynnfforchog. Added in Y Gribin at the end (should have done the Dewey too but just toooooo blooming hot!) | nickywood1 | 12/07/2022 |
Up the steep south ridge going NW towards Glascwm in clokwise cicuit | vegibagger | 11/06/2022 |

From Y Gribbin, initially along fence, then sheep trod around top of crags towards Llyn y Fign. Continued SW along fence to Pen y Brynnfforchog N top, and its main summit. | Minto | 30/05/2022 |
Red bull biking area | ceriroberts | 22/03/2022 |
Aran range N-S. Beautiful day and an extremely picturesque range, the peace and calm only broken occasionally by the thunder of jets swooping over to perform aerobatics in close proximity. | Barns150 | 14/03/2022 |
Wet and foggy day to start. Climbed up here and walked the Aran Ridge. rescued 6 dogs on top which stopped me getting right to the top of the main mountain - got within 5m and the only reason I didn't make it to touch the cairn was trying to keep the pack together | davert123 | 24/10/2021 |
2/3 With Aran Fawddwy and Esgeiriau Gwynion. From Pandy after sleeping (not much) in van. Up ridge, over to Glasgwm, through the little door and down to 350m then back up to Bwylch Siddryn, nipped up Esgeiriau, road back to Pandy. Decent weather on ascent until ridge, then Fawddwy and Glasgwm clagged, cleared after that and breeze stiffened. | Rounsfell | 12/07/2021 |

Parked at high point on A470. Pen Ochr y Bwlch, Pen y Brynfforchog, Pen y Brynfforchog N Top, Glasgwym. Easy going. | CJM | 18/09/2020 |
Parked in small car park in Cwm Cywarch. Beautiful day, very quiet. | Claireb | 08/08/2020 |
Nuttall's routes 8.1 and 8.3 combined plus a few extras - Pen-aran (at the end of the main ridge - a Bridge), Pen y Byn-fforchog North Top (a Bridge) and Y Gribin (a simm). 12 peaks - 29.93km - 5500 feet - took just under eleven hours (the GPS reckoned three hours were spent sitting on my backside!). Lovely sunny day until I got to Pen y Byn fforchog when the cloud descended and it began drizzling. Route through the forest was horrible. | Herbert Anchovy | 31/07/2020 |

Parked at Tai-newyddian, track towards Y Griben then north to Glasgwm in damp overcast conditions. Continued to Aran Fawddwy and Drysgol meeting only one other. | lordtonult | 02/09/2019 |

Modest winds and cloud around summits. Distance 11.2Km, ascent ~1000m. Day 2 spent mostly in cloud. Ascent of Waun Camddwr (621m), Glasgwm (780m), Pen y Brynfforchorg (685m), and descent to Bwlch Oerddrws. Distance 7.7Km, ascent 373m. Hitch back to car. | VirtualMountain | 27/07/2019 |
From the car park at the top of the valley north of Dinas Mawddwy. On the way back from Aran Fawddwy. | iangalbraith | 25/07/2019 |
Afternoon circuit of Glasgwm, Brynnfforchog and Y Gribin from Cwm Cywarch. My 300th Nuttall top, so of course the mist had to come down just as I reached the cairn. Somehow it just felt perfect. | Jake994 | 13/07/2019 |
A 18 mile walk with 5500ft of accent combining the Arran Ridge and Southern Arrans following nuttalls route.Pen y Allt Uchaf, Gwaun Lydan, Aran Fawddwy, Wrw y Ddafad-ddu, Aran Benllyn, Gwaun y Llwyni, Waun camddwr, Glasgwm and Pen y Bryn-fforchog.The woodland beneath the last top has been completely felled and so the return route Nuttall suggests is really difficult. From the free car park at the end of the minor road in Cwm Cywarch three miles north of Dinas Mawddwy | WAYNE ROWLETT | 29/06/2019 |
Long walk from Cwm Cywarch around Glasgwm, Waun Camddwr, Aran Fawddwy and Drysgol with Sue and Shelley. Just over 10 miles, 7 hours walking and 1300m of ascent. Didn't see another person all day, amazing day out. | Cangarwbach | 13/04/2019 |
done | outlawcatcher | 10/10/2018 |
Walked up the steep track from Gesail where we are staying. Up to Y Gribin, Foel Benddin and back. Then through the forestry to Pen y Bryn Fforchog, then round the forest block and up to Glasgwm, past some amazing quartz bedrock. Good paths all round with ladder styles in the right places. | Neolith | 29/09/2018 |
From National Park Car Park in Cwm Cywarch (140m) not on OS map - Gesail - Cwm Yr Yehen Craig Cywarch - Bwlch Y Gesail - Llyn Yn Fygn - Glasgwm 779m (Summit & Trig) - Llyn Bach - Waun Camddwr - Drws Bach - Drysgol 731m (summit and memorial) circled end of valley dropping in down track to side of Afon Hengwm - Ty'n Y Ddor - Cwm Cywarch - I liked this walk sunny to start ending as the light ebbed away. Some fabulous old Crab Apple trees in this valley. | briandavies | 28/09/2018 |
#648 From the car park, Y Gribin on the way back. | tim747 | 26/09/2018 |
From the car park at the end of the road (with a working toilet)
Up the Valley to the col between this hill & the Arans - very humid & wet - rocks were very slippery.
After negotiating the bogs in the bwilch we ascended the steep slopes - following a fence - the top of the hill and the big cairn.
Back down towards Y Gribin - but the rain and mist came is so we left this hill.
Down the steep quad bike track back to the car park.
The ford on the Gesail track was Knee deep !!! so a soaking was had. | ChinnockC | 22/09/2018 |
Followed the fence from the stile opposite car park at Bwlch Oerddrws. Followed the fence all the way to the summit of Pen y Brynfforchog via Camlan and then on to Glasgwm. A fine sunny day, windy on top, jets flying through the valley. | HH | 31/08/2018 |
Glasgwm and Pen Y Bryn-Fforchog from lay by on A470 rather then the Cwm Cywarch approach. | knarf | 01/08/2018 |
Cywarch Car Park > Pen yr Allt Uchaf > Aran Fawddwy > Gwaun y Llwyn > Waun Camddwr > Glasgwm > Cywarch Car Park. | Winterfloodian | 19/05/2018 |
Was pretty much all out reaching the top of this today as it was my last summit on a quite tough 40 miler. A Boost bar and the last dregs of my energy drink though and I was all good once again for the inevitable mad dash for the bus down on the A494. | Twice Shy | 19/05/2018 |
From Waun Camddwr. Headed SW down to a big bog on the bwlch, then steeply SSW to the summit. To descend, headed south to take the track east down Cwm yr Ychen. With JdF. | Man of Kernow1 | 07/05/2018 |
Round of AF and Glasgwm from Cywarch with Mark T. | Topographer57 | 07/05/2018 |
On second day of three in Wales with Smithy & Shaky. As others noted, there is now a decent car park at the end of the minor road at Cywarch. Followed the RoW N past the farm & then NW up the cwm. After crossing the bridge it gets rougher & steeper until the boggy col is reached. Turned SW intending to handrail the fence in increasingly misty, wet & windy conditions but found going easier 100m to L of fenceline. No view at summit. Returned to col & debated wisdom of original plan to continue to Aran Fawddwy. Decided to head back down the cwm, but Sod's Law determined that halfway down, the cloud blew off the tops & the sun came out... | NotReallyABagger | 22/04/2018 |
fllowed the book to bag from cwm cywarch. the steep path up to the top of glasgwm if easy to follow and takes just under 2 hours to the summit | Aristotle Chip | 18/04/2018 |
10.2 mile walk from Cwm Cywarch car park followed nice footpath to bottom of Glasgwm, turned right onto boggy track to Nuttall Waun Camddwr then followed trails across stream onto Gwaun Y Llwyni. Returned the same way then onto Glasgwm, after followed easy ridge towards Y Gribin. Descended to col up to Foel Benddin then slogged back onto Y Gribin, followed old miners lane back to road then car park, lovely sunny day with high cloud, great views north and west towards Aran Fawddwy and the rest of Snowdonia and south to Plynlimon. Saw 5 people all day! | DanTrig | 14/04/2018 |
With: hb sb; Parked at SH852188 in Cwm Cywarch as mentioned by nordicstar, then back to open common before taking track across ford towards Gesail. Followed good zig-zag track up to bwlch N of Y Gribin and then up that. Then took track across to Pen y Brynnfforchog and then across moor up to Glasgwm. Llyn y Fign was heavily frozen. Excellent views across to Maesglase, Cadair Idris, the Rhinog range and Aran Fawddwy. Descended N to pass then down excellent path back to CP. | Ian Baines | 13/03/2018 |
