Route from Kieron Gribbon’s book Ireland’s county high points a four mile walk taking an hour and half from a gate at the end of a minor road at 55395 41587 near Scotstown., a boggy and pathless walk best saved for a clear day. | WAYNE ROWLETT | 19/09/2021 |
Approached from Rosslea. Turn off near Strathnahincha Bridge signposted to Three Counties Hollow. Used car park at locked gate. Note the signboard describing butterflies to watch out for. Followed track ignoring loop walk signs. Pass by resevoir. Track deteriorates. At fork go left and continue to Lack (as shown on Google Maps). Here follow quad bike trail to Lough Sallagh. There are two lesser top to the east of the lough. Bag these then cross to summit of Slieve Beagh marked as Doocarn on OS. This was 380m as expected. Follow the sane trail back. The route is wet underfoot even in the driest months and may be quite a challenge if attempted in winter. The landscape is featureless and potentially disorientating. Use a GPS. | Pete West | 30/08/2020 |
Walked from the CP by the gate on Three Hollows Road in an anticlockwise circuit of the three Slieve Beagh summits. The undulating landscape is quite disorientating, with the various lochans providing the most reliable reference points. Having found the first summit, the other two were clearly identifiable and, fortunately, so was the return route. | Nick Down1 | 13/07/2018 |
As other parked at gate (553416) and followed track then open moor to Slieve Beagh and SE Top. | rhalstead | 05/05/2018 |
Beautiful clear day but completely wet underfoot every step of the way. So vast and barren and boggy. We started at the electric gate up the laneway signposted for Three Counties Hollow. | Audi-Anne | 10/09/2016 |
Parked before the gate at 553416 with GB. High winds and the occasional hail storm but the trek from 545423 where the track splits is hard going. Squelchy bog for well over a mile to the summit and then a return the same way. | bolton | 31/03/2015 |
Large parking area beside the electric barrier at H55398 41574 - Through gate & up to fork in track - NW across trackless & often boggy moor to unmarked summit mound. (PM) | gerrybowes | 31/03/2015 |
Low level County so an easy one. Good example of variety you get on these hills | nickywood1 | 10/05/2012 |
This is the highest point in Co. Monaghan! | Johnjoes | 18/02/2007 |
