I started at the hairpin bend that gives access to Blaen Pennant where it's possible to park one car without blocking the new and much used gate. I met the farmer on my way back and he has had a lot of trouble with cars blocking his access so please bear this in mind. A superb path leads into the picturesque valley where I struck up to LLechwedd Du, a Simm then onto Esgeiriau Gwynion over easy slopes before coming off to the SW and then heading up another Simm, Foel Hafod-ffynydd. Great views everywhere especially the Arans. | Peterb | 04/08/2023 |

Third hill of Nuttall walk 8.2. Didn't see a soul all day on the hills. Good views all day particularly from the Bwlch Sirddyn valley. | simocity | 16/09/2022 |
Bit of a slog though and round peat Hags bluffs & troughs n bog. But simple great hillside up the final 90 metres to Marilyn. | vegibagger | 10/06/2022 |

16.25miles 2870ft walk. Foel Hafod-Fynydd, Foel Rhudd, Esgeiriau Gwynion and Llechwedd Du. | stephenbuda | 30/05/2022 |
An easy walk from Llechwedd Du. Down the north ridge, and road back to the campsite at Llanuwchllyn. | Minto | 24/05/2022 |
A cloudy mizzly day that meant some route finding issues across initial stretch of boggy ground.. As a result missed Llechwedd Du on way out and picked it up on way back. So first top was Esgeiriau Gwynion by which time coud had cleared so easily over to Foel Hafod-fynydd and back to pick up the missed top. Though clear now missed the best line back and finished a couple of hundred yards south on the road. | dickscroop | 04/11/2021 |
Nuttall Walk 8.2, Eastern Arans from Bwlch Y Groes (913233), including Llechwedd Du, Foel Rhudd, Esgeiriau Gwynion, Foel Hafod-fynydd and Moel y Cerrig Duon. Also Foel y Groes. Beautiful autumn sunshine, didn't see a soul. | Lazylizzie | 10/10/2021 |

3/3 With Glasgwm and Aran Fawddwy. From Pandy after sleeping (not much) in van. Up ridge, over to Glasgwm, through the little door and down to 350m then back up to Bwylch Siddryn, nipped up Esgeiriau, road back to Pandy. Decent weather on ascent until ridge, then Fawddwy and Glasgwm clagged, cleared after that and breeze stiffened. | Rounsfell | 12/07/2021 |
The bog trot from Bwylch y Groes CP - not too boggy today. Esgeiriau Gwynion then LLechwedd Du. | ger | 02/07/2021 |

From Rhyd y bod (SH 89050 27439) up the lane and track in Cwm Croes to Cwm Ffynnon, then followed RoW - little trace on ground up to Bwlch Sirddyn. Waited there to join in surveying with MP and AW of Esgeiriau Gwynion, Foel Rhudd and Ffridd Cwm-ffynnon (Lechwedd Llyfn), before descending back into Cwm Croes again. | Man of Kernow1 | 24/04/2021 |
from Bwlch-y-Groes via Llychwyd Du. Used Nuttals route but missed out Foel Rhydd [E top] due to lateness of day. Returned using opposite side of fence from their recommendation, which was much better underfoot, though no doddle! | IanHHill | 11/10/2020 |
From car park to the East through bog and tussock. Also visited Llechwedd Du on the wsy back before driving back to Scotland. | NormanW | 12/09/2020 |
Parked at Bwlch v Groes car park. Llechwedd Du, straight over to Feel Hafod-fynydd, Esgeiriau Gwynion, Foel Rhudd, Foel y Groes and Moel y Cerrig Duon. Only problem was the friendly cattle that arrived at the car park while I was walking, had a dump on a wheel and had been rubbing themselves on the side of my car! | CJM | 08/09/2020 |

A nine and half mile walk following Nuttall's route but first doing the out and back for Moel y Cerrig Duon and then over to Llechwedd Du, Foel Rhudd, Esgeriau Gwynion and Foael Hafod-fynydd. The climb up to the last top is very steep but is only around 400 meters and the climb up the road back to the car park was a sting in the tail too. | WAYNE ROWLETT | 30/06/2019 |
Third hill from Bwlch y Groes. En route to the Arans. | DanMaisieBex | 23/06/2019 |
10 mile walk from Cwm Croes, up Tir Gofal path from Nant-Y-Llyn farm to Llyn Lliwbran then climbed NW steeply onto the ridge, followed ridge onto Aran Benllyn, Erw Y Ddafad-Ddu and Aran Fawddwy (all bagged previously in 2011) then retraced steps to Erw Y Ddafad-Ddu and descended to Creiglyn Dyfi tarn, up easily onto Foel Hafod-Fynydd then diagonally onto Llechwedd Du, along ridge to Esgeiriau Gwynion, descended to Llechwedd Llyfn, then steep descent back to car in Cwm Croes, perfect sunny/breezy weather, good dry terrain, views from west Coast including the whole of Cardigan Bay to Shropshire. Saw 2 people all day. Later that day drove up to Bwlch Y Groes pass and bagged Foel Y Groes and Moel Y Cerrig Duon, great day. | DanTrig | 15/05/2019 |

A beautiful walk with Alex C up the footpath from Blaen-pennant. Just adequate parking by the gate on the hairpin bend (the gate seems disused). The valley is a stunner, and the path grassy, dry and very nice. Straight to the top by the Nant y Ffuddai for a grandstand view of the Arans and most of mid-Wales. | Gill | 17/02/2018 |
So much more enjoyable accessing the hill from this side, with Gill, instead of the grotty old bogtrot back to the Bwlch y Groes car park. | Twice Shy | 17/02/2018 |
Parked at hare-pin bend, up to Llechwedd Du and on to Esgeriian Gwynion. | andrew.morel | 16/02/2018 |

As part of Nuttall walk 8.2, with Penda. 4.75 hrs, cool with spots of rain. Shepherds were gathering all sheep off these hills with their collies, very impressive. | beorwulf | 07/07/2017 |
A dull summit made more interesting by the ascent to the southwest after having already been up Aran Fawddwy. | Alex C | 20/04/2017 |
More or less did section 8.2 from the Nuttalls book with the exception of the North face of Foel Hafod-fynydd which had a lot of snow on it so I skirted East and went up the Western ridge which was relatively snow free and not as steep.
Started off from Bwlch y Groes which is apparently the highest pass in North Wales and it's worth coming up here just for the drive! It was very wet and swampy with lots of groughs and wetness on the way up to Llechwedd Du. After that it was a short hop up to Foel Rhudd and an even shorter hop to Esgeiriau Gwynion. Tied the backpack to a fence on the way up to Foel Hafod-fynydd and picked it up on the way back down. The views at the top were absolutely superb: Aran Fawddwy was sprinkled with snow and looked gorgeous with Creiglyn Dyfi at the bottom. The grassy track (presumably there used to be a quarry up here) was a delightful route down as I no longer had to watch my feet and could admire the delightful waterfalls below instead. The only downside o | tsharp | 23/03/2017 |
From Llanuwchllyn. Pen-aran, Aran Benllyn, Erw Y Ddafad-Ddu, Aran Fawddwy, Gwaun Lydan, Foel Hafodd-Fynydd, Esgeiriau Gwynion, Llechwedd Du, Foel Rhudd and Llechwedd Llyfn. | Alunrees33 | 21/07/2016 |
From Bwylch y Groes, not doing the Nuttalls walk but used the faint path made by those so doing to circuit out around the neighbouring Simm and then collect the Marilyn. A right soggy bogtrot and best quickly forgotten :-). Great views of the main ridge where we had been earlier in the day on better mountain terrain. | nordicstar | 12/07/2016 |
Not the best of walks from the high point of the road. It does get better. | jenx | 12/07/2016 |

Dwarfed by its neighbours but a Marilyn - rounded peaty and covered in heather and grass. Small white quartz cairn makes me smile. Descent to Bwlch Sirddyn steep and impressive. An aerial display above as Red Kites,Buzzards and Ravens scrap. A strangly unsettling and hidden place.

ANOTHER FINE DAY AT BALA. DROVE TO BWLCH Y GROES AND DID NUTTALLS WALK 8.2. BOGGY BUT EASY WALK OUT TO LLECHWEDD DU AND ON TO FOEL RHUDD AND ESGEIRIAU GWYNION. JOYCE FOLLOWED THE PATH DOWN FROM THE COL TO THE ROAD AND WALKED UP TO FETCH THE CAR WHILE I DID FOEL HAFOD-FYNYDD - GREAT VIEWS OF THE CLIFFS OF THE ARANS. WALKED DOWN TO THE ROAD AND JOYCE DROVE ME UP TO A POINT BEYOND BWLCH Y GROES FOR A SHORT BUT ROUGH AND PATHLESS ASCENT AND DESCENT OF MOEL Y CERRIG DUON. | BURGESS | 07/08/2013 |
Another beautiful day in the Arans - with no one else in sight until I neared the top of the pass on the return, to meet a couple of Dutch cyclists struggling valiantly up the other side. The aptly named Llaethnant, and views down into the Dyfi valley were amazing. | ruthatlast | 06/08/2013 |

Sort of followed Nuttall walk 8.2. As it was very windy we did Moel y Cerrig and then moved the car to the bottom of the pass for a less exposed approach up the valley. Saved walking back up the road too. | mindlessflogger | 13/02/2012 |

Beautiful afternoon with widespread views, walked in from the east after drier than average winter. After a couple of wet days this area could be used for bog snorkelling. | Dugswell2 | 09/04/2010 |
As part of the Nuttall route. Perfect day for this - frozen ground meant there was no bog trotting and there were great views of the snow-covered Aran ridge all the way. Fences make for easy route finding. | woodse | 13/02/2010 |

From Llanymawddwy (Pont y Pennant). The walk up the upper Dovey valley was a great start- worth doing even if you don't go up the hills. Over Llechwedd du, though, a route suggested by the Nuttalls. This is surely the most barren and charmless summit in all Wales. Then a simple walk on easy terrain to Foel Rhudd and onto Esgeiriau Gwynion, the Marilyn. Return over Aran Fawddwy and Darren Du. A great walk overall. | pwheeler | 08/03/1997 |
