Parked near cattlegrid in SW corner of Nant y Moch. BW SW to bridge over Nant Glas, then SE on faint track (especially in reeds) to summit. Just in time to see setting sun reflected in the sea. With Gillian. | richard69 | 20/10/2022 |
Parked at junction with farm track at 728 836. Followed ROW through farm and then over (not well maintained) stiles to access land. Picked up an ATV track all the way to the summit. Descended back down ATV track to just before Disgwylfa Fach col height. Headed to highest point of col where least bog and easy fence crossing. Up to Disgwylfa Fach. Followed a track down across the ridge to meet road at junction with bridlepath 734833 (Ford crossable with gaiters) then up road back to car. 2.8 mile circuit, walking time about 1hr 20 (per Garmin). | JulieB | 18/10/2022 |
The ascent of Disgwylfa Fawr and Disgwylfa Fach from the end of the farm road to the SW. 4km with 260m ascent, taking 1h 30m. | silverwolf_alan | 28/07/2022 |
Bit of a plod though the grass - like tussocks. Interesting shape at top - like a small hill fort. With Gmac as always | elizyanne | 29/06/2022 |
A lovely walk from Bwlch Nant-yr-Arian, up through the waymarked trails, visited the Buwch a'r Llo (Cow and Calf) standing stones, Llyn Blaenmelindwr and Lly n Syfydrin. From there headed directly east on a faint track across a bit of boggy plateau, then steep uphill to the top. Terrific viewpoint for Pumlumon. Descended east then south to join the byway, very wet and muddy. Followed quiet lanes down to Ponterwyd to catch the bus. | thesweetcheat | 28/05/2022 |
From the south, parking where the bridalway cross the road. Followed track N, then up Disgwylfa Fach, then on to Fawr. | Minto | 26/05/2022 |
Parked at reservoir and took route through the woods, tough to follow trail due to water logging and trees down over track before going off path and straight up through heather. To track long way back. | Stevooo | 28/08/2021 |

With: hb; We made a longer walk out of this one by parking at Nant y Arian. We followed the byway out of the forest, over Esgair Gorlan down to the minor road, then walked up this for 500m before taking the track up to the farm. Friendly people there and easy access to the field above and a diagonal path to the stile into open country. We followed an ATV track to the ridge round to the summit. We return to the road over Disgwylfa Fach then used the road to access the Nant y Arian forest and followed the LDP back to the car park. | Ian Baines | 27/07/2019 |
With: ib; Parked at Nant y Arian the used byway to minor road, track to farm then across field to access land. Up side to ridge & summit. returned of D Fach then back through forest. | Helen Baines | 27/07/2019 |
Across country fron Dinas. Rough grazing. | Moorponder | 20/07/2019 |
From eastern corner of Llyn Syfydrin. Less than 30 mins to the summit. | G4OBK (Phil) | 05/06/2019 |
Partial verge parking at jct with farm track at 728 836. Stayed on access land all the way to summit (start on ROW).Fine hill. | ger | 17/04/2019 |
Same route as nordicstar not much ground clearance for honda jazz parking at farm track start. | rogreeves | 14/02/2019 |
From the minor road to the east, over the bridge and up. Down NW to Rhyd y Gaib bridge. Scrambler motorbikes about. Agree with Gills comment about them. | Alan Moore | 03/01/2019 |
Marilyn Walk 117: Ascent of Disgwylfa Fawr from the SW, visiting Disgwylfa Fawr and Disgwylfa Fach. A round trip of 4.3 km taking 1h 20m. | silveracorn_alan | 14/08/2018 |
First of two Dewey's on a 10 mile walk from the main car park at Nant y moch reservoir, second Dewey was Drybedd. Taking around 4 hours. | WAYNE ROWLETT | 28/05/2018 |
From minor road to south via farm track and public footpath. Excellent views in early evening sunshine. | Winterfloodian | 17/05/2018 |
A nice walk from the hairpin bend SW of Llyn Syfydrin. Easy tarmac road, then a trail bike track onto Banc Syfydrin, and some very easy bog trotting on firm ground between well spaced tussocks, followed by a steep climb on mossy grass to the summit. Down the path past Syfydrin to vary the return. What a shame that knobheads with trail bikes think that it's clever to ride up the side of the hill, and have made foul scars in two places on the hillside. | Gill | 16/02/2018 |
Great hill and one of three from south. Ample parking at Gd: SN 742822. A very wet day with constant rain and low cloud giving visibility of only a few metres. | thenomad | 20/12/2017 |
with Allan and Matt. SOTA Activation | M0YDH | 01/12/2017 |
We walked up from the entrance of the track to Aber Peithnant then down and up to the Dinas fort. | Neolith | 29/10/2017 |
From the long finger of Nant y Moch. Raining when I started which got progressively worse.
Not thesort of hill i could recommend in foul weather. Summit in 50minutes but the section from the Rhyd y Gaib ford (bridged) was horrendous. No views. Returned moredirect. This was also bloody horrendous. The bridleways are fine its just the getting to them thats the issue.last of 3 today and 7th in 24hours. 3hour drive back to Stafford followed. | stig_nest | 06/08/2017 |

From dam car park, a round of Banc Llechwedd-mawr, Drosgol and Disgwylfa Fawr. | rhalstead | 27/05/2017 |
From minor road to SSW. Up track to house, not clear where the path is exactly around the rt of house, through sheepy pasture, over stile, up sheepy slopes in mist to the top. Returned via same route. No views. Walking in dank cloud. | Father Ted | 23/05/2017 |
KeithByTheC | 19/05/2017 | |
Parked by Nant-y-moch reservoir dam and did a counter-clockwise walk round the reservoir via Banc Llechwedd-mawr, Drosgol & Disgwylfa Fawr. Good long walk, some on rough ground. I took footpath by reservoir near Maesnant farm: non-existant path and very rough ground. Using parallel road and permitted path would have been a much better option! | Cas-gwent | 10/05/2017 |
From visitor centre on A44 taking ridge path out then road and track towards Disgwylfa Fawr, with last bit on grass following sheep tracks. Returned via Disgwylfa Fach, bridleway, Esgair Gorlan and finally main bike track. | SS | 06/05/2017 |
From SW, nice easy one to end the day. | Topographer57 | 06/04/2017 |

With Alex C, from minor road to SW. Did a small round of 4 hills, bit over 5 miles. | jonglew | 05/11/2016 |
Parked at start of track/footpath to the west. Very easy ascent past the house , across pasture, over a stile and across the slightly rougher ground above. Back over the smaller face. | jenx | 22/02/2016 |
Very easy from road end of track at GR 728836. Walk track past farm on left, up pasture fields to stile at 365m. Higher grazed slopes lead easily to summit, in 30 mins. Back over the Fach Tump to lane and start point. | nordicstar | 22/02/2016 |
Parked at 834731. Went over the Tump - Disgwylfa Fach. Just over 2 miles and 80 minutes with GB. | bolton | 29/10/2015 |
Parked on wide verge at SH73119 834446 Dropped down & crossed the stream at large boulder Up SW slopes of Disgwylfa Fach & on to Disgwylfa Fawr Returned across western slopes of Disgwylfa Fach. (PM) | gerrybowes | 29/10/2015 |
Park on wide bit to S, then over Disgwylfa Fach to summit. Back the same way. Nice way to spend 75 minutes. Very like a Scottish borders hill | Thearlaichdubh | 19/09/2015 |
With Trefor. Parked to the east. Track down to river then after crossing followed public footpath for a short stretch the straight up to summit. Warm and humid. | mike.hoult | 03/07/2015 |
Walked up on a round of Drybedd and Disgwylfa Fawr. Drybedd hard ground rough, much hummock. Started just south of the cattle grids either side of the Hirnant. Took a more or less direct line to Drybedd. There is a barbed wire fence to negotiate. The descent followed the fence on Bryn llwyd back to the road at a third cattle grid. Crossed the field directly to the footbridge. Followed the track to where there is a choice of two gates. Took the one on the right and climbed steeply to Disgwylfa Fawr. The return was down to the fords north of the fort and back along the track to the start. The walking on Disgwlfa Fawr was much better. Mainly short, sheep cropped grass and some other bits of hummock. | MikeM | 16/05/2015 |
From parking spaces at Dinas (826738), walked over the fort top at 385m, Disgfwylfa Fawr and Disgwlfa Fach- a nice backcountry hill walk just picking good lines. This was only 1.5h so we continued over to Llwernog Pond. This was messy, felled forest and new ATB routes making the routes shown on OSmaps hard work to follow. There were good moments here but the N half was the better part by some way. | pwheeler | 03/05/2014 |
Start ~ 732832. Crossed stream and climbed Disgwylfa Fach then crossed col to Disgwylfa Fawr. There was a strong and cold westerly wind which rather hastened our visit! With Wombourne & Ron. | steve hudson | 08/04/2014 |
