Parked in space near Pt 157 at top of the road and traversed on faint ATV track outside fenced area north of River Esragan, crossing fallen fence just above confluence of streams and the newish bridge. Then followed stream SE before crossing it and heading up to long summit ridge. Return by same route. | benalder284 | 05/02/2023 |
A wet and windy day, and unreliable forecasts, so I decided to split these hills into 2 shorter days to minimise suffering and simplify navigation. From good parking a few yards SE of Blarcreen bridge. NW up road then up via second field (gate at top) but there's also a gate into the first field at the top and another out to the hill which was easier in return. Sheep tracks show the way through the gorse and dead bracken. Steep traverse to bealach E of pt 387, going is worse higher up but vestigial ATV track helps. Then just walk up the ridge over a few bumps and the granite notch just before the top. Two bearings get you down in mist. Hill top is nice but overall low ratio reward:effort typical of Grahams. | Gill | 27/10/2022 |
River fairly easy to cross above gorge or higher up. On return, after crossing bridge follow track to higher ground, stile across fence, continue up to pick up rough track which comes up from parking area just below summit of road. Involves extra ascent but much easier than bracken bashing! | nicolajane | 11/08/2022 |

from high point of B845, as per return route of SMC Guide. There is now a bridge over one of the streams at the confluence of 3.[the one from the north]. I returned down a ridge slightly to the east of the obvious one and this enabled me to cross the eastern stream higher up, where it is easier. | IanHHill | 01/07/2022 |

Parked in the layby near the 157m high point on the B845 opposite the gate and track entrance to Beinn Bhreac. Took the route as per the SMC Graham's and Donald's route, easy ridge up to Beinn Bhreac (Simm) mainly on a track, then around the ridge onto Mam Hael, up to Beinn Molugrainn, dow the ridge then over a deer fence (easily crossed at a point it was collapsed) over to the complex ground, taking in the 578m HuMp (both the 1:25k and 1:50k tops), then keeping to largely the higher ground to the col between Meall Biorach, over another deer fence and straight up the ridge to the summit of Beinn Mheadonach over the rocky cleft. Descended down to pt 619, then headed down the ridge over rough ground at the bottom to cross the river, then over a bridge, and just up the hill a small way took a path that traversed through the woods above the River Esragran back to the car. 11.2 miles, 3735ft climbing, out 8hrs in total (Grahams book suggests 6hr 30mins walking time). From Meall Dearg Far S Top. Countoured SW past Meall Biorach to col. Up steep NE ridge, initially on left side. Kept close to ridge for least awkward ascent. A little scrambling. Down W to pt619, then NW to stream crossing & new bridge over River Esragan | KeithByTheC | 02/05/2022 |
Tricky | 25/04/2022 | |
Parking near Pt 157, traversed outside fenced area north of River Esragan, and crossed fallen fence just above confluence of streams where there is a good bridge for first crossing. Then headed upslope using GPS to get to long summit ridge. Summit not always visible in early stages of walk so worth checking direction. Return by same route. Initial section adds an extra 100m climb each way. | willyross | 20/04/2022 |

A round of the Blarcreen tops, starting besides the bridge and along the woodland footpath to the foot of Ceann Creige. Good terrain and ice-hardened ground enabled a swift walk to its top and on to the impressively cairned Beinn Duirinnis. A steep descent northeastwards into the shadowy Lairig Duirinnis was rewarded by a sunny ascent of Beinn Phlaicaig South Top and its even more interesting lodged-boulder summit then on to the main top and the two Beinn Mheadhonach tops. Getting cold now so returned down the west flank until we reached a fence and parallel deer track that helped us back down to Blarcreen. Great walk taking about 4.30 hrs. | summitter | 04/01/2022 |

Second Graham of day after visiting Beinn Duirinnis.
Earlier attempt in day from the west and bridge on A828 over Allt a' Ghlinne aborted, turned back at hydro-electric intake over River Esragan as did not fancy being half way across to an uncertain route when valves opened!
Approached from highest branch in Blarcreen Burn following stream up to approx. 600m before turning left and west towards summit.
Stay north of first peak it is a false summit.
Descent on SW bearing picking up tributary to Blargreen Burn.
I chose to stay on northside of burn following track which was well defined in ground but had become densely overgrown by fern resulting in an exhausting i hour bushwhack, being covered in deer keds.
Never come across them before.
No bites but probably because they could not find a grip on sweat covered skin.
Back at van by dusk at 8:45pm.
Knackered - Good fun though. | mntainman | 24/08/2021 |
