Room to park one car by the gate to the start of the bridleway at the bend on the A470. Cut across a few non-A/L fields with one b/w fence to cross before reaching the summit cairn. Nice walk across to the Silver Jubilee cairn on the West Top. With Jill.Dangerous Dave05/02/2024
Route as richard69. Bracken now horizontal rather than vertical.JGC13/01/2024
From Pt 208 on the A470. Up right of way to the edge of the trees, where insane red arrows direct you who knows where. Struck straight up the hill to the summit. Fences, but handily placed gates. Top surrounded by lots of gorse and bracken but quite a few animal/people trods through this mess.iangalbraith17/08/2023
Parked in Nant-glas at the start of the bw into the woods. Up the road to Pen y ffynnon and the bw. Followed fence boundary up to the ridge and across to the hp. Fight much of the way through wet chest high bracken. A top for the winter perhaps on this approach. Damp low cloud. With Gillian.richard6908/08/2023
From main road to NW up good path. From the fence corner at the start of the access land a good path heads up to the top. Great views and plenty of kites. Back via the west top beacon.PeterD14/02/2023
After the W top & ascended via the PRoW from the A470. Good views.DanMaisieBex23/10/2022
Cycled from Llandrindod the via the narrow metalled road leading from Nant Glas to the Pen-y-ffynnon farm. Impressive cairns.davechaffey05/09/2022

Up from the 208m spotheight path on the bend in the road to North. Up the path through the trees in the dusk at 6.30 and out into the dawn. Across the summit meadows to the beacon and 1977 silver jubilee cairn then across to the summit fuji the east. Involved tricky getting over barbie. Low level gorse covering part of the summit area.vegibagger14/10/2020
Nant Glas to SE, walked up road to Pen-y-ffynnon. Followed well appointed track off to right where there is a footpath sign just inside gate of house directing steeply avoiding conflict. Meets a grassy track, rising to right. Exit into fields over barbed wire fence. Main summit first the the monument and beacon. 2/3 Rhayader MarilynN.Morters29/09/2020
From the small layby to the NW to the high point then to the large cairn and beacon on the way down. My 1500th Marilyn but nobody lit the beacon.NormanW25/09/2020
Room for a van or car at the start of the footpath from near Pt.208 on the A470, just south of the Kite Centre. We startled about 50 Red Kites as we progressed up hill, but the many sheep seemed rather relaxed in comparison. Did the West Top - clambering to the big cairn summit - before the main summit, just a touch of bracken and gorse near the summit slowing our pace.summitter16/09/2020

2/4: From Nant Glas to SE. Walked up road to Pen-y-ffynnon and then through fields. Misty, very still, cleared a little on descent. Rounsfell27/12/2019

Gwastedyn Hill from near Nant Glas. Warm and humid. A fight through the bracken and nettles. 4km with 300m ascent in 1h15m.silveracorn_alan03/08/2019
P at little lay-by next to start of bridleway to NW of summit. Pleasant ascent. The prominent commemorative cairn (ER 1977) & the beacon, are not on access land & there is no ROW to them, but they are clearly visited.ger13/04/2019
Small lay by SN980672. Just past a small scree patch took vehical track visible in the grass. This lead to a gate. Had to step over feance to get to summit. 1 hour 30 walking slowly.rogreeves29/05/2018
From road to south. Hard steep slog up and back. New bracken not an obstacle yet but old dead bracken added to the effort.ijpowell25/05/2018
Break in journey home.Dusty12/05/2018
Marilyn #500 on first day of three in Wales with Smithy & Shaky & last of hot, sunny April spell. Quick evening ascent from small layby on A470 2km SE of Rhayader. RoW not signposted but there is a strip of yellow tape on the gate... Lack of signage generally & other two got sidetracked by a nice circular signposted walk in adjacent field that someone has obviously gone to a lot of trouble with: good views over town from various benches but not where we wanted to go, so back to RoW which we followed to edge of open access land & then over short tufty grass to the summit. No bracken to contend with in April. Good viewpoint. Back by same route for Saturday evening's entertainment in Rhayader! Recommended!NotReallyABagger21/04/2018
From small parking spot on A470 South of Rhayader and via good path to ridge, we went direct to west top and then to main top. There is gorse and bracken to negotiate but in the main this can be bypassed using animal tracks. With TJB. Enjoyable hill.trimarc217/08/2017
From corner in minor road to the SE. Rather steep and hard going, even on dead bracken. Approaching from the north would have been longer but probably easier.Topographer5707/04/2017
Parked on layby where ROW meets road to NW- space for two cars. Followed ROW until SE of summit, then up through woodland then rough hillside path via gates to summit.Cas-gwent17/03/2017
Parked up in Bryngwy side street just S of Rhayader, walked S along river bank and then crossed A470 and up good path through sheepy fields to top with cairn and then across field to Marilyn summit. Came down through kite feeding centre and relaxed with coffee in the chocolate shop in the town. Lovely hill.Father Ted07/03/2017
From layby south of Rhayader up very pleasnt path then over fields and through bit of short gorse to summit. Came back by west top with its cairn and elevated brazier.SS12/11/2016
Parked at bend in minor road 991657, room for one car on verge. Followed bridleway to NE of summit then along fence line and up through gorse avoiding all bracken. Returned via beacon and bridleway via Bwlch y Llys.Lionel Bidwell22/08/2016
Parking restricted at entrance to bridleway so we parked roadside further back down road at SN 9916 6554. Nice summit from where we operated for SOTA.G4OBK (Phil)08/04/2016

From Nant Glas. Looked at parking up the farm road to Pen y Ffynnon but decided to go from the main road rather than risk get stuck on a soft muddy verge. Picked up the path to bwlch y glas and then followed paths through the dead bracken. The slightly lower northern top looks to have a better cairn but the main top is certainly higher. Was very windy and didnt hang about long. Direct steep decent though more bracken.stig_nest16/02/2016
With Trefor. From Llanwrthwl. Footpaths and forestry tracks. West summit with beacon and very well made cairn first then on to main summit. Sunny, clear with great views. Descent to sewage works and riverside path to Rhayader then on to Carn Gafalt.mike.hoult30/07/2015
Parked on bend in minor road (9907865787) bridal way to access land and then did my Moses bit, parted the sea of shoulder high bracken on the direct line to the summit.tim74704/07/2015
Parked at Farm at 995631. Walked east along road to stile at the start of the right of way (fixed rope in position). Followed this SW to the edge of a forest which blocks the ROW so ascended to its top edge and jumped over a fence (barbed wire already cut). Continued through gates on the ridge line to rejoin the ROW at a finger post. Continued to the Jubilee cairn and beacon. After enjoying the views went SE over a gate and followed the fence to the corner of the field where a low fence can be stepped over, and hence on to the true summit. Returned the same way.mindlessflogger20/05/2015

As entry for West Top, but barbed wire fences and rough scrub made the short jaunt over unpleasant. Not sure which was supposed to be open access and which wasn't.dicky31/08/2013

Parked by the A470 at dusk, and up through the forest. Caught in a short but heavy snow storm on the summit, which cleared to give a nice moonlit walk back down.huwthomas04/03/2012

Left car at bend in road to SE at 991658 (15:00) and walked through field then very steeply up through thick bracken to summit at top of scarp. Seemed significantly higher than big cairn to NE. Finished 15:55 dbb14/06/2009

From S is best to do the other top 1st so that you do not need to struggle through heather.destaylor15/09/2008
Nice top(s) bothe with cairns. The furthest one (from Nantplas) has a conical cone built to celebrate QEII's silver jubilee in 1977.clivevilla01/06/2008
Continued from subsidiary summit, across shallow valley and awkward fence. Nice cairn and views to valley below.Aye Jimmy15/05/2008
(date approx) Walking from Llandrindod Wells to Rhaeadr. Went up using bridleway on S side. Only visited highest point, not the other summit. At the farm near the bottom dogs were troublesome (even though I was clearly on the RoW).david.carreg01/05/2007

Parked to NW in small layby. Followed track to top via Jubilee cairn. Dropped wife's mobile on top - returned 4 days later to find it in perfect working order, so assume its not frequently visited.robphys13/03/2005
