Parked in the quarries car park at the top of the pass to the NW. Garreg Lwyd (trig & cairn), Foel Fraith, Garreg Las and return by the same route. Dry and sunny, although frozen and frosty underfoot with a chilly wind. Only met two soldiers on a training hike. An excellent half day walk before the long drive home. Solo.richard6902/12/2023

First I climbed Garreg Lwyd (616m) and trigpoint, the onto Foel Fraith (602m). From there I took a detour to Carn Fadog (512m). Then onto the highest and most outlying summit for today, Garreg Las (635m) and then onto the trigpoint and summit which lies beyond, Carreg Yr Ogof, a beautiful spot. Time was getting on but I managed to include Cefn y Cylchau (556m) on the way back and a fairly direct route back to Herberts Quarry allowed me to finish in daylight. A very scenic walk in this remote area. /Dmeltdiceburg23/10/2023

Garreg Lwyd, Foel Fraith and Garreg Las. A selection of small car parks NW of Garreg Lwyd, any of which will do. A path all the way up Garreg Lwyd and over the succeeding tops. Cut the corner on approach to Garreg Las but nothing gained as ground somewhat more awkward. Set out to return by Beacon Way but it either disappears or I lost it so finished up contouring Foel Fraith and re-ascending Garreg Las but all easy going with sheep trods etc. A very pleasant uncomplicated walk.dickscroop06/10/2021

Walk in the Black Mountain range, paths not as clear as other parts of the Brecons, but that gives a bit more adventure! Mountain pass car park had plenty of spaces, and a good place to start a walk.JazDisney26/06/2021

From the car park at the summit of the A4069, visiting Garreg Lwyd enroute to Foel Fraith, then on to Garreg Las. Then returning around the top of the steep slope above Blaen y Cylchau, before heading north to Cefn y Cylchau. The return to the A4069 roughly followed the Beacons Way. Then a quick up and down Carn-Pen-rhiw-ddu from the car park. 16.6km with 560m ascent in just over 4 hours. (S)silveracorn_alan22/07/2020
From the ridge line over by Waun Lafrith trimarc2 and I looked at the Nuttal book and thought “the weather is still nice how hard can it be to nip to that one extra then follow their route back?” Ah how naive we were. A very soggy four hours later, 7 river crossings and a rather more exciting spot of 4 wild ponies yes we’d bagged this blasted Nuttal but we were also soaked to the bone. I have the soggy cocktail sausages and flask of cup a soup that I devoured on the summit to thank for my survival.Fionalevey19/12/2019
The Nuttall book is right to warn about river crossings on the way back to the pub car park at the Tafarn-y-Garreg. But the pub is welcoming, the fire warm and very welcome food was served at 4.15pm. A very memorable day finished by being very wet.trimarc219/12/2019

With Penda. From Dan Yr Ogof campsite, to Fan Hir and then on to Fan Bryncheniog, Picws Du, Waun Lefrith, Garreg Las and back across the moorland. Nuttall walk 13.5 in its entirety. A long, hot flog with temperatures in high 20 Celsius. Took lots of water and we needed it all. Wonderful views but a wearying flog back from the last hill.beorwulf26/06/2018
