Permission requested and provided. From east.TK08/03/2024
Obtained permission from the estate by email. Went up from east following good tracks most of the way. Found small pile of stones at top.PeterD14/01/2024
See trip report: https://www.peakbagger.com/climber/ascent.aspx?aid=2383607 Better than expected. Found the summit cairn at the stated grid reference obscured by moss, bracken and brambles on a now virtually non-existent rotten stump. Performed extensive gardening and added a few extra stones, so hopefully have made it more obvious for subsequent visitors.peter.stone22/11/2023
Permission from Debbie at GU Estate .. parked in the small lay-by by big tree just up from lane entrance .. climb on obvious tracks to SO171208 where I spotted a faint track maybe from a recent bag .. went to OS spot height on obvious top but didn’t spot the markermilejunkie17/11/2023
Prior permission obtained from Glanusk Estate. Streams running down the tracks after all the heavy rain. Wandered around the summit grid reference but no cairn spotted in the undergrowth.Alan Caine04/11/2023
Permission from Glanusk Estate. I won't be back !JGC21/09/2023
Got permission by e-mail from Glanusk estate; parked 75m inside entrance on advice of estate worker. followed forest tracks fairly directly to within 30m of summit, and then it was like Jungle warfare. I'm pretty sure I found the highest point, but would advise against going there in late summer.IanHHill14/09/2023
Prior permission from Glanusk Estate willingly given. Parked at main track gates to the east and followed forest tracks to within 50m of the top - faint narrow path off main track to summit area. Brambles and bracken not a problem at this time of year. Wet both from above and underfoot. With Gillian.richard6931/12/2022
Private mountain owned by Baron Glanusk, no view from the top but good views from eastern slope.Climbed ʷ.No pm. obtained.Myarth used to be a common according to tithe maps.Loads of bramblesfreethehilltops24/10/2022
Emailed the glanusk estate to seek permission to access privately owned land, no problem at all. Parked at wide entrance to cottage and filled track to the top, bushwhacked near the top for a bit, couldn't find anything to mark summit and returned same wayTribal2er17/09/2022
With Lesley. Walked from Green Man festival before returning to see Viagra Boys amongst others. Email permission from Glanusk Estate, Debbie.Nick Canute19/08/2022
With permission from the estate office. On forest tracks from the east.Winterfloodian29/07/2022
Phoned Glanusk for permission - no problem. Summit area overgrown and difficult to access. Unfortunately stumbled across a wasp nest resulting in several stings !richwales19/06/2022
As Gill. On Easter Sunday evening. Quiet, but looks to be actively managed forest.davechaffey17/04/2022
2 of 4 for the day. Got permission from the Glanusk Estate. No issues there just emailed them and all they wanted to know was my car registration number. Plent room for parking in front of the gates at Pen Myarth 187201. Took the right hand track immediately through the gate then first left leading past some open land. Then left at the first track when back in the forest (177206) this bends around SE , then at the next junction turned right to meet junction just before the summit (64m away). Took the left fork for about 5m, then headed through the undergrowth to a broken wall. Faint path behind the wall leads to the summit with small branch which was still wearing its plastic bag. Back the same way. 2.7miles, under 1hr 15 round trip.JulieB21/03/2022
A lovely walk on forest roads to within 20m of the high point. The bracken has died back but still a lot of brambles. Found the stump with a stick wrapped in white tape set in it. I was granted permission from The Glanusk Estate Office when I rang them last week. They were very friendly and helpful. I was allowed to park in the woods just inside the main gate. Solo.Dangerous Dave23/11/2021
The prohibited hill. Kestrel Inn start? - it is a hazardous walk along a very fast and busy road from the two laybys 300m W of the inn - there is no gateway into the forest, just a gap in the hedge, and there is no sign of forest tracks ahead, just a mass of impenetrable vegetation - not worth risking being a road casualty for. Gliffaes-fach start? - a new and prominent sign indicating 'No Access' has been installed on the gate into the forest at SO170202 - it would not be credible to claim that one had not seen this sign. Glanusk staff were out and about at 07:00. The Estate office (for access permission) is not near the hill.Isbjorn15/04/2021
Permission granted. From gate at East end. Truly horrible at the high point with briars and head high bracken but I got the little blighter.NormanW01/10/2020
Went from eastern entrance (SO187201). A little concerned that the permission I had been granted 6 months earlier, and not used because of covid lock down, might not still apply. This route avoids all habitation and saw nobody. Forestry tracks to within 150m then very difficult fight through brambles and forest. Not an enjoyable outing.Neil Midgley14/09/2020
From half km east of Glifades Hotel, limited parking neat wall on wide section of the minor road. Initial track overgrown with Himalayan Balsam topped with brambles, easy when reached track above. About 150/200m beyond the tree with white arrow a vague track into the trees. Then cut through past a fragment of wall and a pre-bashed undergrowth from visitor a few days earlier to summit. Stones overgrown. 1/3 MarilynN.Morters27/08/2020
Sought permission from Estates Office. Following tracks and paths. Summit overgrown.Ramblingpaul23/08/2020

A40 near Tretower - Myarth - Buckland Hill - Allt yr Esgair - Bwlch.Mark Jackson20/02/2020
Track from SE per permission and advice from estate. Impressive giant sequoia. Just before cottages, turn right into a field then make for a gate in its NW corner, which leads to more tracks. From trackside at 17094 20887 a faint brambly sort of path leads SE to summit but it is still a fight, especially in the blackberry season. Nota bene, there are numerous NUP and CCTV notices and if you are apprehended, the law is not on your side.Topographer5704/09/2019
from lay by shut pub, gap in road fence 2 fields then on to track and final bash through trashunderhill21/07/2019
Permission obtained from the very helpful Glanusk Estate Office. Parked at Easter Entrance road, SO1870020103, and followed the forest tracks to the north of the summit area. 15mins later after bashing around in brambles and bracken and about to give up we spotted the stick with the plastic bag attached and Cairn beneath. The path we made will be there for a little while before it overgrows so get in there quick if you want to bag this summit easier.Jephcote8328/06/2019
Permission readily granted by email from the Glenusk Estate. Ascended from the S taking the old track from Gliffaes Fach to SO 175 202, then straight up to pick up the forest tracks higher up. Located the small cairn with its stick & white plastic bag pennant in the waist high brambles & bracken.DanMaisieBex13/01/2019

1/4 Marilyn day. Got permission from the estate on a day when no activity taking place, but still made an early (6am) visit. Followed forest tracks from gate at eastern end, a real tangle of brambles at the summit. 4km in just 1 hour. (S)silveracorn_alan14/05/2018
I never thought I'd bother as I remember keep out etc signs all the way round, now there are just a few at the E end. Like others, I started 200 m W of Clwyd-y-coed and used forest roads on a long zigzag, then followed the big white arrows- these lead past the summit area. Apart from the loathsome summit brambles (a shorts day except I had to put overtrousers on for this 10mins) this was a nice woodland walk in warm spring sunshine. Saw no-one.pwheeler21/04/2018
The north side is a scene of devastation because of logging, so the most viable route is the track from Gliffaes Fach, good parking to the NW, past Clwyd-y-Coed. Just zig-zag up the track. Weekends best to avoid logging, and avoid the pheasant shooting season. Summit easily accessible in February when brambles and bracken are dormant. The sun shone out of Myarth the day I did it.Gill25/02/2018
Oh how we laughed! Parked in layby on A40 but rather than walking back down the road to get into the forestry we found our own way round field edges where there were grassy walkways, as the road did not feel at all safe to walk down! It was getting quite dark which made thrashing around in woodland at the summit rather interesting and it was a relief to find the couple of sticks marking the top and quantify with the grid ref. Weird sense of achievement!nickywood128/11/2017
Written request for access readily granted by very helpful people at Glanusk Estate. With TJBtrimarc221/04/2017
Early Sunday morning ascent - all deserted. Parked in layby just west of Kestrel pub. Ascended two fields then crossed fence into woods at approx SO16962116. Then zigzagged SW then east up tracks marked on OS 1:25000 almost to summit. Very brambly final approach to summit from the north; somewhat better heading back out to the NW. Small cairn and stick with white plastic bag flag at what seemed like the summit. Descended by same route.davidpettit8427/11/2016
Access to Myarth by kind permission of the Glanusk estate.salen24/07/2016
#606 - Permission obtained from the very helpful Glanusk Estate Office. Parked inside the eastern entrance and used tracks to the north to reach the west end and up to summit area. Top is overgrown with fern, brambles etc, no sign of stones, red plastic bags. Used the 'head and shoulders rule'. Very wet! (with Creaking Hiker)tim74711/07/2016

Parked on Kestrel c/p and entered woods on inside of bend just E of pub (now open). Bulldozed tracks..most of that on the 1:25000 isnt there. But if you see any white arrows follow them..they lead right to the summit. Lots of daft jokes thought up whilst on this walk.. It was very humid up Myarth. Didn't see any signs saying Myarth is private. Descended direct through fields mentioned by others. Beware the tractor wheel ruts and cows hoove holes..stig_nest07/07/2016
Written permission to the Glanusk estate applied for and granted with access from Gliffaes-fach SO 16422036. Room to park just one car there. Much timber extraction taking place in April 2016...G4OBK (Phil)07/04/2016
Parked near Gliffaes-fach and followed track east, then track north west to corner and east to summit.Lionel Bidwell28/03/2016
Parked in a layby south of the A40 and west of the currently closed Kestral pub. Generally headed up the side of the forest in a southward direction. It took around 70 minutes with GB. Rough in places. My 700th!!bolton25/11/2015
Parked in large layby on A40 west of Kestrel Inn (Currently closed) at SO16779 21491 – Down road towards pub and over farm gate on right – Up side of field to corner of forest & then up alongside wall/edge of forest to SO16972 21225 – Crossed wall at this point & then battled our way up through forest debris and brambles to small cairn & final remains of plastic bag on stick. (PM)gerrybowes25/11/2015
From near the pub and straight up. No probs though progress a bit slow through the woodland.jenx17/11/2015
From near the old pub, parking just west of there in big layby. Over gate and up field to wood edge, about 50m up this and over gap in wall. Pretty much directly uphill after this crossing 4 tracks using rides/tracks of sort. Note: an amount of felling appears in progress and the route could be disturbed in next few months. Lots of brambles/bracken so not easy. Plastic bag still there on stick at cairn but for how much longer?nordicstar17/11/2015
With Trefor in the rain. Sent an email to the Glan Usk Estate and was given permission for the ascent. The Estate were very helpful, the route I proposed was not suitable due to forestry works and a shoot but they suggested an alternative route starting East of the hill and following forestry tracks the took us almost to the summit. The summit area was overgrown with brambles but we soon found the summit cairn with its stick and attached plastic bag. Many thanks to the Glan Usk Estate officemike.hoult19/08/2015
Obtained permission to walk up the hill as it's used for hunting and there are lots of signs up. Strolled up the mixed forest tracks on a bright frosty morning to reach the summit rock. Lots of timber being extracted which gives some views of the surrounding hills but not at the summit. With permission its a much more relaxed experience, rather than going in 'under cover'.mindlessflogger08/02/2015
7/7 last of day followed track into woods and headed to top. Green plastic bag at summit has faded and is now white !Fergalh11/01/2015
Started from the Coach and Horses in Llangynidr. Walked along the canal and then over the old bridge across the Usk. Took a ROW across a couple of fields to the lane south of Myarth. Walked along the lane and then took a track opposite the entrance to a big house, just before the road to Gilfaes Hotel. Followed this into the forest and then followed forest roads to the summit. Unimpressive summit for which I had to do a little bit of bushwhacking, but it is clearly marked by a stone, a post and a green plastic bag. Very pretty route through the woods though. Didn't pass a single 'No Entry' or 'Private' sign on this route. All gates were open.islamidget02/11/2014
