Parked at the end of the road in Banwen. Good tracks to trig pillar. Higher ground by wall north of the trig. The high point described on Hillbagging is in dense young conifers and probably only a few centimetres higher than the path! Probably the highest point is the machine-made pile of rocks at the edge of the quarry. Solo.Dangerous Dave05/12/2023
5/5. As others parked in the street at Banwen. Lovely Sarn Helen mosaic on the ground at the start of the track. Followed the track/windfarm service road up to the trig, hiding behind some conifers (very old trig photo on hillbagging). The hp was more elusive being in a clump of very dense 10year old conifers. A forest track WSW a few metres away with a height showing 480m was the closest I could get without having the same experience as Alda below. Dusk ascent and started to snow in the dark on the descent. Solorichard6929/11/2023

Revisit from Seven Sisters in gloomy dusk for relocated summit. Severely needled by dense trees, though summit only about 65 metres from track. Trig now mostly hidden by trees.alda21/07/2023

Up from Banwen via Sarn Helen- windfarm tracks then forest track. Not much feel of a Roman road then, but at least driving/trail biking is being made difficult and the few trail bikers were in the old opencast area below. Getting more overcast all the time, but still good views of the mountains with only Pen-y-Fan cloud topped. Stumbled about to find trig, but followed a thin trod back to forest track just WSW of its high pointpwheeler15/05/2022
From the bus stop at Banwen on a lovely day. Up the byway to the trig, which took more finding that I expected in the trees and shrubs. Carried on SW, then diverted to the Carn Cornel Bronze Age cairns. So far so good, but then made a very bad choice of crossing the access land bog and into the impenetrable trees, rather than returning the way I had come along the easy forest track. Wet footed and grumpy, I finally made it back onto byway and carried on all the way down the ridge to Aberdulais.thesweetcheat14/05/2022

From Banwen with occasional hail showers. A bit confusing with new wind turbine roads. No views at high point and trig is nicely hidden behind a conifer.NormanW26/02/2020

Alongside Sarn Helen, fir clad. Sarn Helen marked at intervals with low concrete pillars with very attractive bronzy plaques. Sadly, only one found with plaque intact, all others nickedrichardrosser05/02/2019

From Banwen, up Row and forest tracks, then Sarn Helen. Trig hidden in trees. Also visited the Bing to the South which looked as if it may be higher, but wasn’t.PeterD10/06/2018
1/6 Marilyn day. The ascent of Hirfynydd from Banwen. Up along the forest trail and windfarm roads, tricky to locate the trig at the end of the climb due to trees. A round trip of 8km in 2 hours. (S)silveracorn_alan13/05/2018

Easy walk from Banwen, first on logging and windfarm roads and then on Sarn Helen, a right mess due to trail bikes. Trig is easy to find at the high point of the road; look for a small path where the wall has collapsed.Gill22/02/2018
