Top of busy MTB routes. Trig hidden in pines behind. Low cloud and drizzle. Walked up busy track with minibus shuttles.Denise 17/02/2024
Along the ridge on muddy track from Mynydd Aberdar. The summit is the start point of MTB downhill runs with a manmade set off mound built possibly on the natural high point. It’s just like a ski area for MTB’s with radiating routes of different difficulties graded by colour. With minibus uplifts for bikes and riders it’s a popular place and probably best visited on weekdays. Everyone is however friendly and don’t seem to mind us walking around. The trig pillar is in rough lumpy grass ~200m S reached by path through trees.RichardM17/02/2024
A vision of Hades at the Wales Bike Park, with old fat people being bussed up the hill with their bikes so that they can choose to descend via a multiplicity of MTB tracks. The cafe below blares loud music inside and out and smells of sickly doughnuts and muffins, yuk. Good luck finding the paths. An MTB GOML directed me to a bridleway to go up the hill. Joins the logging road with the buses. At rest area 10, there's a track for them to push their bikes up the hill, the old RoW, which joins the upper RoW. N to signs saying A470 line and Vanta push up, followed this almost to the top, then dodged the bikes to the summit, now a huge mound where the MTBers are deposited to start their descents. Followed a green route down to join the bus route to the start. Grim. One day it will be a Marilyn when the MTBs have been forgottenGill12/10/2023
From bike park, lots of bikes around despite constant rain, so I mainly stayed on broader tracks not bike routes. Trig a little hidden in trees, unusual new high point.alda22/07/2023
From SSW. Decent parking tight against wall at top of minor road at SO 0364 0136 - Up tarmacked lane & stone track to junction at 034024 - Turned right & up track to junction on bend at 039023, forked left & up path to junction at 043024 - Turned left & a short walk along roadways to top of bike park (SO 0441 0256) - From bike park, S. for about 35m over a bit of rough ground to trig point. Run out and back from Abercynon to Mynydd Gethinmilejunkie27/03/2021
Up from the Bike Place, on their ascent route. Man made bit at top and trig easily found through trees. Back down the easier blue route with no bikes around. Longer climb than anticipated.PeterD31/07/2020
from mt ash car park up past kennels and forest track to twyn brynbychan then on to ridge to mynydd gethin then to mynydd aberdar return forest track to caegarw 19 klms 5 hrs. motorbikes scramblers everywhere crazy but curteousunderhill24/05/2020
Up from the east-side Mountain Bike World by ascent routes: Beast of Burden and The Push Up (bikes at your back). Down similar avoiding the rocket-speed descenders. Say what you like, but these are my kind of people - only less than half my age.Eddie13/07/2019
Copped when going to Bikepark Wales, decent hill not enough prominence for my liking and quite gradual.FelixClayhill05/04/2019

Parked at Frynnon-y-Gog at 036014, up road which becomes track to 033204 where turned right then made it up using GPS when I got near. The Wibbly Wobbly mountain bike start is clearly man made and also clearly higher. Went to that and also trig. 3.88 miles 1h17mins.clivevilla13/03/2018
Agree with Adrian. Mountain Bike start area at SO04406 02583 is higher than trig albeit man made.Ramblingpaul15/08/2017
Small area for start of mountain bike courses is higher than the trip.Adrian29/04/2017
Up from Fynnon-y-gog. Being a Sunday there were plenty of MTB's in evidence.Chris Peart14/02/2016
Solo walk from Aberdare via the far northern end of the ridge,my very out of date gave no clue of the existing of the bike park so I'm not sure who was more bemused, me or the cyclists! Great views of the snow-covered Beacons. Carried on SE along the rest of the ridge, then dropped down to Penrhiwceiber train station.thesweetcheat21/11/2015
Parked at the top of the minor road at Ffynnon-y-gôg then used the ENE path to gain access to the hill passing some spoil heaps on my way to the forest. Trig at summit within view of the top of Bike Park Wales.Dugswell203/07/2015
From minor road near Ffynnon-y-gog. Trig a short way from bike course in felled area but new plantings mean that it will soon vanish once moreColin Crawford03/07/2015

Parked at Mountain Bike Centre, luckly did this one at dusk so was able to walk up some of the bike trails. Could be interesting finding a route when the bikes are in full flow.rhalstead10/01/2014
Parking in a residential area at roadside. Interesting walk up past waste heaps from a bygone past mining era, then through a pine forest before breaking out onto the top of the hill where a large area of pine trees have been felled. The whole area seems to be a quad & motorbike playground. Some serious mud here!jonglew06/01/2013

Looks like a great path for mountain bikers. Shame about the desolation of cut down trees around the trig pointMartin R30/07/2011
Parked where Des advised which is a good starting point. Set off in drizzle, returned in torential rain. Saw little on top apart from the trig and tree stumps. Had just been on Radio Wales being interviewed about walking and things.Father Ted22/09/2010
Parked at 035 020. Good tracks all the way apart from last 100m. Trig easy to find as surrounded by remains of the trees that have all been cut down.destaylor10/06/2010
Walked from SW.Dusty10/06/2010

Revisit. Trig in small clearing c 40m SW from summit track (in line with a boundary stone with cloven top; some of these BSs have Rivet BMs on top). From SW this time, quite confusing network of pathsRHW17/03/2006

Started from the Gethin Woodland Park car park. Ascended by forest tracks frequented by scrambling bikes. Approached top from the NW along fire break. Used the boundary stones to locate where to hack into the trees. Trig in small clearing.garyhoney23/11/2002
nice approach, hill dull, conifers, line of boundary stone, TP in small clearing c40m SW of summit track. from rd-end Cefnpennar 036013, (1) tk N to 033024, follow tk/FPs to summit; (2) tk E (confusing proliferation of paths) RHW13/05/2000
