Simple walk up the mast track from the west. Parked at start of track. Solo.Dangerous Dave04/12/2023
5/5. Parked off the road bend/track junction to the W, as others and followed an easy track/path up to the masts, trig and hp. Dusk ascent and getting very cold but views out towards the Mumbles. Solorichard6930/11/2023
After Mynydd Dinas and Buarth y Gaer/Mynydd y Gaer. By now I was pretty tired. I came up directly over rough ground to the northwest of the summit, deciding rather pointlessly to avoid the track to the southwest. It seemed a very long way to the top as the sky clouded over. The round barrow is decent, as are the views, but otherwise the top is a bit of a mess. I chose a terrible descent route SE from the summit, initially an incredibly steep and slippery path used as some kind of suicide cycling track, then forestry tracks which disappeared into brambles and thick bushes the further I got down the hill. At one point I had to crawl under a bush to keep going onwards. I was delighted to reach the houses, but utterly exhausted.thesweetcheat25/02/2023
Solo from SW, good views. Spent some time chatting with local mountain bikers.Nick Canute12/02/2023
Good parking and nice view at 626772, easy walk up past farm buildings and alongside forest, nice walk up to towers and trig, lovely views, return same way, met some nice old fellas leaning on the farm gate at the bottom, proper last of the summer wine momentTribal2er06/02/2023
Up the track from the West. 1.5 miles round trip. Quite a pleasant short walk.JulieB31/12/2022
I did a long day's walk from Port Talbot and having climbed Mynydd Dinas, I walked over to and climbed Foel Fynyddau. Was impressed with the views from the summit despite the masts on the summit. The hollowed out Bronze Aged cairn was rather impressive too. I then returned to the road and carried on with my day's walk.morgs4mountains21/12/2022
Easy ascent from road west. Followed bridleway then good trail up to summit. Good views today across to Devon and of the surrounding area including the industry of Port Talbot. Third hill of the day. Earlier we bagged Cadair Fawr and Moel Penderyn. Afterwards we bagged nearby Mynydd Dinas.DanTrig05/07/2022
We walked up from Pontrhydyfen and did a circular walk up and over the hill. Nice views from the top and easy walking. With Alma Aurea.meltdiceburg01/06/2021

Walk/Run o Cimla.sionbrit25/09/2020
Circular route from Cwmafan...along cycle route 887 to Pony y Cwmer then up the zig zag forest tracks to Foel Fynyddau - the top of which has now been clear felled but the MTB path remains on the west edge of the former forest from 784944 to the summit and is more pleasant than the zogzags. Desended to the west towards Baglan then welsh coast path to Mynydd Dinas, detour to summit, then coast path back to route 887 and back to Cwmafon.Clive G05/08/2020
From bend/track in minor road west of summit. Good track all the way to masts/trig. 4/7 Marilyn and good viewsN.Morters25/07/2020

easy ascent from west along bridleway then at semi-permanent small holding, footpath along NW edge of forestry. gloomy day didn't do justice to the viewsrichardrosser20/12/2018
Training run from Neath via Bwlch Road, return via Baglan. Run short of daylight to ascend Mynydd Dinas...philwhit15/10/2018
From the west stating at road HP. Nice views over Neath. Do the dickheads who discard aluminium cans at trailheads and summits realise their half life is 4.5 billion years?Topographer5730/09/2018
3/7 Marilyn day. The ascent of Foel Fynyddau from the road at SS 772 935 (parking for 2-3 cars), there and back by the same route up the side of the wood to the masts and trig. Just 2.5km in a 40 minutes round trip.silveracorn_alan09/05/2018
Parked to west at start of track. Up past horse yard, path then track to masts and trig.Minto10/04/2018
A train walk, starting from Port Talbot Parkway and finishing at Skewen. Up the Wales Coast Path to Mynydd Dinas, which is not as expected from the map: it's a lovely heathery summit with a few pine trees. Down the WCP to Blaen-Baglan, then along the road to pick up the by-way and path leading to Foel Fynyddau. Back to the road, and towards Neath, picking up the forest track after 280m, which comes out above a hill fort, then down to Pant-Howel-Ddu. Down the very quiet and pleasant road to Neath, and a soggy by-way to Pencaeru, and into Neath. Over the pedestrian bridge past the station, and up the hill towards Glynfelin. Paths and tracks up the hill to join the bridleway below the summit of Mynydd Drumau. Over the fence to the trig, then soggy, muddy grass to pick up the bridleway into Skewen, for the return train to Cardiff.Gill18/01/2018

Good path to summit and nice views over coast.twg2727/06/2016
From W. Good parking. 370m spot height shown approx 40m E of trig appears erroneous on ground.jimbloomer27/05/2016
Parked on bend in road to W of summit and followed the most direct tracks show on the map to the top.Cas-gwent26/04/2016
Parked at byway entrance on road (SS77211 93525). Followed byway east and took left branch to north of conifer plantation. Headed straight for radio masts and found trig point. High point is 5 or 6 metres north of trig. Returned by heading south then picking up track, turning right, north of plantation rejoining ascent route and back to car.mntainman12/04/2016

From Pontrhydyfen viaduct we followed the tedious forest track to the top. Fine views with aerials and park bench at the top. On the way down. we took a path that follows the western boundary fence to the second hair pin bend of the track which is safe from mountain bikers as there are a few fallen trees to climb over. What would Richard Burton think?mindlessflogger12/03/2016
From where track left minor road at 772935 drive 200m up this to gates, up track to stables & then followed path along edge of forest to summit. not inspiring!nordicstar18/11/2015
Not a pretty hill. Easy ascent via track from west.jenx18/11/2015
As previous bod Bolton. No sign of clampits and no barking dogs. Though I didnt hang around either. Summit viewless, saturated and not a lot of fun today.stig_nest14/11/2015
Good parking to the west then a short 45 minute walk alongside the edge of the trees. Watch the sign for the guard dogs at the clampit residence. With GB.bolton29/07/2015

From Pontrhydyfen, up windy forest track which starts under old viaduct, easy climb to masts, then across to Mynydd y Gaer and Mynydd Dinas. Back via Cwmafan on old railway and new Richard Burton Trail - across old viaduct and aquaduct. Tidy wasn't it.dicky25/05/2015
From parking area E of Pontrhydyfen (SS799941). Upward route (on old abandoned forest track) involved an obstacle course of blow-downs and brambles. Return route was much better, using MTB track running N from summit to regain forest track. Route and write-up at: http://gayleybird.blogspot.co.uk/2015/03/three-mynydds-mynyddau-and-foel.htmlGayle22/03/2015
SOTA walk - operated ham radio from summit. Started out from where track left road at SS 772935 where there was room to park.G4OBK (Phil)21/01/2015

From Pontrhydyfen, up on forest track, prepare to zigag, down more directly on MTB track.rhalstead19/05/2014
Ran up from Cwmafan via Mynydd Dinas. Brecon Beacons visible in a line to the north.huwthomas07/09/2013
Great Viewpoint, Parked car on Bwll Rd and hiked along the path towards Cwmafan, (we went the wrong way and it ended up taking us into cwmafan itself) we back tracked after finding a path which led to a fire road that actually led us back to our car from where we found th correct path which was really easy. no access problems whatsoever nice walk.Bryangwyn02/09/2013
My first trigg point which i was so proud of, Parked the car at Tesco Garage and headed to the steps on Cwmafan Road just opposite. headed along Mountain Rd and when we got to the Coastal path sign we headed staraight up the steps (About 200 of them) at the top we followed the fenceline and just past the field gate took the slope to our right at the top there was a narrow path through the ferns which is easily missed, this path takes you to the trigg point. we retraced our steps down the slope and followed the fire road around the hill. some amazing views around the other side of hill, Foel Fynyddau, and way off in the distance we caught a glimpse of Corn du and Pen -Y- Fan.Bryangwyn20/08/2013
Before breakfast. Left the bike at the inhabited sheds. Met the resident and his German Shepherd.. Ran up and back. Bike still there.Eddie10/07/2013
Walked up from minor road to West whilst in the area to bag Mynydd Margam. Direct track shown on OS 1:25k isn't shown as a PROW but didn't seem to be a problem. 370m spot height shown approx 40m E of trig, but trig seemed to be highest point on the ground.jonglew29/06/2013
Easy walk from W, up track, then path just in forest. View wasn't as good as from the lower Mynydd Dinas but perhaps becAuse the weather was deteriorating. 40 mins returnpwheeler25/04/2012

Parked at Aberavon and made a decent walk of this and Mynydd y Dinas. Came up through Cwmafan then on the minor roads and approached trig from west in heavy mist. No views today.Father Ted28/12/2010

A nice walk up through the forest of about two and a half miles each way on the forest track from Pontrhydyfen.clivevilla29/08/2008
Hard direct ascent from Cwmafan, track on steep slope now heavily used by mountain bikers and very loose contour path a better betRhayader_wander08/05/2008
Trig revisit. Easy climb from W, by light of full moon, bonfire night.RHW04/11/2006
Too many masts to be a good summit. Trig (S 4072) is on ancient monument (a tumulus). Fire engine was at top of track trying to put out flames in woodland caused by heatwave.signyred18/07/2006
Parked at the junction of the by-way and the minor road to the west of the summit. Used the road to make the drop before following the edge of the trees to the top. Again low cloud made a view impossible.garyhoney04/09/2004
