From car park to the east and over Simonside before the muddy walk to the summit. Once back at the college descended to the roadside via forestry road then a lovely waymarked path in the woods. A great 8.5 mile circuit.KevPalmer23/03/2024
From forest parking to the east. Simonside then onto Tosson Hill.Alan Caine22/03/2024
From Limekiln car park N of village and then up through woods - took longer than I thought - a proper ascent. Nice clear Autumn day.davechaffey03/10/2023
From car park to E. Lovely sunny day with strong breeze. Started on St Oswald's Way to Coquet Cairn - that part was great but bridleway leading north to Simonside turned out no longer to exist. ATV grouse shooting track, then a nightmare of thigh-high tussocks, tree stumps and annoying flies. Got blisters as Altbergs still not broken in and had left compeed in other rucksack. After Tosson, and a very light shower, slowly back over the other hills. Rounsfell11/08/2023
A tour of the Simonside Hills from the free car park near Lordenshaw. The long walk took in Simonside, a revisit to Tosson Hill, Darden Rigg, Gunner's Box, then a long walk back along the St. Oswald's Way to the car park. This was followed by a quick trip up to Garleigh Hill - both the trig and old fort. Altogether it was a 32km round with 730m ascent, taking me 9 hours. Not a cloud in the sky! The ground was tinder dry, but the going easy.silverwolf_alan29/05/2023
From Simonside. Stands in the shadow of its less high neighbour. Returned to car park over Simonside to double the enjoyment.Wycombe Wanderer14/05/2023

From the car park and along the fabulous flagged footpath to Dove Crag and Simonside. Westwards to Raven then up the muddier path to Tosson Hill. Even muddier to Whitefield, but from there easy going forestry track to just south of Darden Rigg. Once back on the track we went past the Chartners Hostel until it reached the St Oswald's Way back to the car park. 4.20 hrs.summitter05/11/2021

From Lordenshaws over Simonside to Tosson Hill, returning by the forest track N of Simonside. An enjoyable and scenic walk.Nick Down129/05/2021
Parked at Lordenshaw car park and set off towards first Dove Crag, Old Stell Crag, Simonside and then finally onto Tosson Hill. Done all these hills several times before but still enjoyed the views. The path is excellent apart from the last km which was a wet soggy. Weather was overcast but dry so decided to retrace my inbound route back to the car park. GPS stats: 6.9mls in 2hrs and19mins.JamesJones08/03/2021

5/5 Marilyn day. The ascent of Tosson Hill (441) from the FC car park. Steeply up through the wood, then west along the clear track around the wood and across the moor to the summit. A round trip of 9km in 2 hours. (S)silveracorn_alan29/05/2018
9 mile out-and-back walk from car park east of Garleigh Moor, over pathless ground from road onto Garleigh Hill, then down to footpath west, along to Simonside Hills car park and followed well made paths all the way along the ridge to Simonside summit, descended steeply and followed boggy footpath along to Tosson Hill then back to car park missing the Simonside ridge taking the forest lane north instead. Perfect autumn/winter weather cold, clear and bright.DanTrig06/11/2017

With J from the Lordenshaw car park on a bright, sunny but breezy day during a trip to Newcastle. Followed the path, being repaired in sections, over The Beacon, Dove Crag, Simonside & then dropped to the crossroads of paths/tracks, before following the path over the heathery moor to the summit which is a decent viewpoint. Then returned back to the crossroads of paths/tracks just NW of Simonside where we helped out a couple we'd noticed wandering through the heather earlier - a bit lost & no map. Took the lower track heading NE & then E which does not & never seems to have ever gone through the forest as marked on the OS map, judging by the state of the ground. About 200m from the end, we turned S on a short connecting path to rejoin the outward route just underneath the top of Dove Crag. An excellent wander out.NotReallyABagger25/06/2017
