7.2 mile circular from Dodd Wood car park. We followed the Dodd summit trail up to the top. Descending than ascending out of the woods and onto the steep path to Carl Side. Then we headed easily towards Long Side, along edge to Ullock Pike. These must be the 3 closest together Wainwright's in the Lake District. We then descended the ridge steeply to just before Watches. Then followed paths near the road through the woods back to the car park. 846m ascent. Great clear views from Dodd especially towards Scotland. Carl Side was in cloud, but we soon left it on Long Side. A few people about.DanTrig14/09/2022

With DW, DS8 and DD6 from the cafe. Second time around for me and DW, but came down the lake side in the sunshine today! Met a fellow traveler David, who we determined we would meet again when he does the Wasdale's in late October. Met and shared maps, time and food with other travelers. After Catbells two weeks ago and the social distancing over the scramble, it provided such relief.. I have the lust for the fells again as it seems so have many others I met today. I truly don't know where to go next to rediscover my freedom. But it won't be very long in coming!nukeboy119/09/2021

With Sarah Evans, cloudy and chilly but clear views. Went up from main car park, following the way markers, carried on up the track when markers tell you to cross beck. Normal route up from point where tracks meet, did summit first, then back down to view point and down from here to create loop. Sarah added an extra bit on the end to the Osprey view point and by fields to bottom of the car park. Solo. Surprisingly long walk down from Carl Side. Forest path up to top was winding and again surprisingly long. Descent from top of Dodd north path went though small avenues through broken branches and thickly woven trees. Tough but thoroughly enjoyable and took an age to get through and down to road.Statto25/03/2019
Parked in a large entrance to a forestry track. There were no parking signs on one side but not the other. I interpreted this that it was ok to the park on the other side. Followed various tracks and paths to the summit. With JT and HT.Sprog23/03/2019
Ascended from Millbeck, where there is a small parking place at the start of the public footpath. The path is still diverted higher up on to forest roads, but most of the trees in the area have now been clear felled. A popular hill with most ascents from the FC carpark.JohnW04/03/2019

Millbeck-Lyzzick Wood-Dodd-White Stones-Millbeck. Closed 16 months ago for felling, but all open today. The path to Long Doors appeared clear through the felled area but this looked devastated so I used forest roads via NY243269. The trees by the roads were still standing with felled areas below so this gave really good views.pwheeler24/02/2019

We descended Carl Side & took a right at the white stones to head towards Dodd. To be honest we were feeling a bit sunburnt & leg weary by this point, particularly my pregnant wife! But we dug in & tackled our final climb of the day to summit Dodd, through the pleasant woodland that surrounds it. We even spotted a deer. After a bit of navigational confusion due to the forestry work, we made it down to the comfort of Lyzzick Hall, & a well earned swim, dinner & sleep!AmyYoung23/05/2018

after coming down the front of carl side towards Keswick we headed for Dodd although very tired and flagging. we stopped for 5 mins on a bench just before the last climb to the summit of Dodd through the pine trees along a straight forward path. From the bench we got to the summit very quickly to be greeted by yet again amazing 360 degree views. After 5 mins or so we headed back down the back and onto the road through the woods which led straight back to the car. snowed on the way down and even though we had a road this was the end of a very tough day in the fells so a few drinks round Keswick I think we deserved. I got recognised in the wainwrights but before stopping and the dog and gunn and watching music in oddfellows. stopped off down and alley way on the way back to the hotel to have the perfect ending to the perfect dayScotty 2 Hotty06/01/2018

Ascent on good tracks and paths from Sawmill car park. Fine rocky summit and excellent view point. Significant flooding of Derwent Valley, Bassenthwaite Lake extending to Keswick! Descent by NW ridge proved akward and forested - keep to ridge line and don't be tempted down the sides.RichardM30/12/2015
Nice 6.6 mile walk from the A591 up through Dodd Wood up to Dodd, then Carl Side and along the ridge to Long Side and Ullock Pike before descending back to to the car. Parked in Forestry Commission Dodd Wood car park near Mirehouse - NY 23501 28122. Large car park with WC & cafe, but expensive - £4.80 for four hours. Took green marked trail clockwise, which eventually lead me to the summit. An easy walk now that the trees have been cut back. A made path leads all the way to the summit - no need for all the contorsions now that Wainwright described. Continued to follow green trail down, round west flank of fell and so to car park. A wild and windy day, but remained dry till I reached the car.Man of Kernow124/01/2014
