From Seatoller up Combe Gill then up to Tarn of Leaves. Climbed both tops of Dovenest and then headed to Combe Door and up to Combe Head. I then headed up to Glaramara which was a bit of a scramble the way I went. Once I’d been to all possible tops I headed back to Combe Head to visit the knoll close to the cairn as from Glaramara it looked as high. I then headed down over Thorneythwaite Fell to Seatoller. Time 3.5 hours for 7.35 miles. Weather cloudy; base just above summits clearing to sunshine.isabelle29/08/2023

Getting to Dovenest Crag from Glaramara took an age as I kept taking what I thought were shortcuts over knolls and finding that there was no way down the other side. On the descent I should have turned west by Tarn at Leaves, and in hindsight should have turned back and found the path. Instead, I headed straight down a very steep mountainside, mainly grassy but with some rock. Progress was painfully slow, and I think I would have saved more than an hour by turning back. Eventually I was at a wall at 1,000 feet, alongside which ran a path of sorts, but this was very rocky and steep. I was relieved when I arrived at a gate with a permissive path sign, and this took me down to a farm. Even here I turned right instead of left, passing Borrowdale Church but reaching the road several hundred yards the wrong direction.peter4lc11/06/2015
