Parked at Maggies Bridge. The round of Mellbreak North and South Tops, Hen Comb, Floutern Cop, Banna Fell E Top, Gavel Fell, Blake Fell and Burnbank Fell. Cloudy day with some sun but chilly NE wind. Some snow left on the top of Blake Fell from the weekend but surrounding higher hills looked impressive - across to Grasmoor and Red Pike/High Stile. Worth mentioning the good track not on the map heading off NE from Burnbank that curls N to meet up with the bw below and facilitate a more direct return to Maggies Bridge. Solorichard6903/03/2024
A round of the Loweswater Fells from Maggies Bridge, visiting Mellbreak (both tops), Scale Knott, Hen Comb, Floutern Cop, Banna Fell (E Top), Gavel Fell, Blake Fell, Carling Knott, and Burnbank Fell. A lovely autumn day, with the Buttermere area getting the best of the sunny weather, most of the Lakeland Fells were capped with mist. 23km with 1200m ascent taking me 8 hours.silverwolf_alan27/10/2023

Lovely day - hot for the season. Started by Church Bridge Loweswater (Kirkstile Inn), walked into Mosedale. crossed the beck to ascend Little Dodd then along the broad ridge to the summit. Return by same route. Olwyn and TrevorTrevolw19/04/2019
Dropping steeply down to Whiteoak Moss the boggy bit between the 2 mountains. It was wet as expected but not Mungrisdale common wet and didn’t mind. Stopping for some fuel before the last steep push of the day we sat had a snickers and some Lucozade and chilled for 15 mins. The last push was fine, dry with good foot holds. The summit was easily my favourite of the day. Stunning views towards Buttermere and Fleetwith pike. From there we made our way down the ridge over the river down the farm track next to Mellbreak past the Kirkstile Inn and back. Great 8 mileish walk. stopped quickly at Rghed the home for drinks in the garden and inside. Ended up staying up till 3am. Good excuse to crash out and watch Tiger Woods win the master all day on the couch. Great weekend.Scotty 2 Hotty13/04/2019

From Loweswater. Managed to follow route up by old mine spoil- as in pg3 of the Wainwright chp. This may be impossible when the bracken is high. The descent from the summit along the ridge over Little Dodd was pleasant with a track throughout. View restricted by higher hills nearby. My first visit in 49 years of visiting Lakeland- worthwhile-bagged of course, but climbing Mellbreak first (in 1998) is a natural choice.pwheeler25/02/2019

Mellbreak and Hen Comb with Don Munro next door. Up the north face of Mellbreak, what a cracking little ascent that is, over the tops and down the other side to the path that cuts across to the back of Hen Comb, small slog up and over this. Lucky with weather, bit hazy, superb views of Buttermere, Grasmoor, over to the giants at the back and side of Buttermere, couldn’t see out to sea though. Overall a lovely jaunt, 2 more W’s and 5 B’s.Mark T31/05/2018

Mellbreak the Return. After a memorable day in the Loweswater hills three years ago I returned with Mark hoping for a better day. Walking from Maggies Wood car park, the steep climb up to Mellbreak was in sunshine retracing our steps and dropping down to cross Mosedale Beck to tackle Hen Comb head on. As we approached the summit the rain started and as we climbed Gavel Fell it was getting quite breezy. Glad to stop for lunch in the shelter on Blake Fell before we carried on to the still uninspiring 'top' of Burnbanks Fell. Weather improved on the descent to Holme Wood and the car and a welcome pint in front of the log fire at the Kirkstile InnPhilip A03/05/2018

Descent to Holme Wood and the car to get dry clothesPhilip A01/05/2014
A wet and windy day - nothing stayed dry. A round of 4 Wainwrights from Buttermere. Ascent via Scale Beck, a nasty path. Starling Dodd, Great Borne then Hen Comb and Mellbreak completed the day. Descent from Hen Comb and reascent of Mellbreak nearly had me... An uncomfortable day on the hill.jonglew05/04/2014
An early finish enabled a whizz around the Loweswater fells. I averaged 3mph, which is quick for me! Not the most exciting walk in the world, but good training for later in the year.David Galbraith31/03/2014
From Parking near bridge.followed route up valley to mining remains thence up to shoulder and summit descent via ridge and Little Dodd. This descent route is probably the best way up and down. A grey day with no view at summit due to low cloud. Solo.iredale15/03/2014
Took our own route up having lost the path and ended up on all fours! Climbed up in what seemed like a hurricane blown over several times!flapjack23/02/2014
