Up from WSW back same way blake fell and Knock Murton. Steep climb up through open trees, joining a path as height gained. Crossed fence by stile, then steep path to summit. Much gentler largly grassy path back to car. | cjo | 05/11/2023 |
From Cauda Brow, Lamplugh.
6.5 km, 400 m asc.
NE up the ridge to Knock Murton, continuing E through the trees to Low Pen and High Pen.

I quick hike up Knock Murton for the views with DW, DS10 and DD8. Impressive shelter and seat. | nukeboy1 | 02/04/2023 |
Parked at Felldyke. Track to Cogra Moss, and east end. Then the mapped rising traverse path due S to the road at col. No sign of mapped path heading west up through forest. From road, easily up to top of forest where twin stiles exit the forest to upper slopes.
Descended west round S edge of forest, then N, W, and N to rejoin the outward track at W edge of forest. The route seemed to be better clockwise. | Minto | 30/12/2022 |
From west parking at track before the disused mine railway. Along track, at gate up via initially steep path to ridge and great viewpoint to Ennerdale. 4/5 | N.Morters | 22/10/2022 |
Could not find the path up through the trees so had to come just out of forest to SW and go steeply up pathless to gain top . Easier coming down to road . | Mark Sims | 29/07/2022 |
Clockwise circuit from Felldyke car park. Lovely walk. | russell61 | 13/07/2022 |
Cauda Brow > Kelton Fell > Godworth > High Pen > Low Pen > Knock Murton > Cauda Brow. Just me and H. Glorious morning on the fringes of the Lake District, Very clear views. | johnkaysleftleg | 10/07/2022 |
From the south west, very easy and a good hill | David Bell | 14/06/2022 |
From verge parking near the entrance to the forestry track SW of Knock Murton. Up Knock Murton by a zigzag path after the first gate along the forestry track, then another path that initially follows the fence line, visiting the cairned summit and its uncairned rival, then descending N to a narrow path through the trees, crossing a wide forestry track and ascending Left to Low and High Pen, before following paths and a short ascent to both Godworth and Kelton Fell. | Nick Down1 | 02/05/2022 |
With FR Parked at FellDyke
Knock Murton, Low Pen, High Pen, Blake Fell, Sharp Knott, Burnbank Fell, Oswen Fell and High Hawes.

Parked at Felldyke and followed the track to the east end of Cogra Moss. Took the minor path up along the east side of the hill, and a path into the wood at NY09841 18847. Up to the stile at NY09654 18925, and through grass to the summit. Visited the alternative summit too. Windy but good views. | LizH | 02/03/2022 |
A Six and half mile walk from a parking area to the East of Kirkland at a T junction grid 087183, taking in the Birketts of Kelton fell, Godworth, Banna fell, Floutern cop, Gavel fell, High Nook, High Pen, Low Pen and Knock Murton. Time was not recorded as the weather was strong winds and torrential rain and the only real route problem was access to the East side of Knock Murton as a large number of trees had been blown down so resorted to a up and down route from the track to the south. | WAYNE ROWLETT | 12/02/2022 |

Western Circuit of Gavel Fell route from Complete Lakeland Fells book. | RobB | 23/11/2021 |
Parked at Felldyke, up past Cogra Moss, forked right and when forest track met SE of hill, took path up through trees to stile and then up to top. A great little hill with good views alround. A week earlier the Ennerdale show fell race went up to the top of this hill, the winner taking just over 11mins to top and back. Carried onto Kelton Fell, Blake fell and back over high How’s. | PeterD | 30/08/2021 |
Lovely sunny, clear day so went for eight Lamplugh fells from Kirkland T-junction. Easy walk over Kelton Fell, Godworth and down to sheepfolds. Horrid rough and dreary climb up to Banna Fell then nice summit of Floutern Cop. Decided to add Little Dodd (Hen Comb N. top) as flat path but then had dreary and tiring climb onto High Nook. Easy over High Pen and Low Pen then a steep climb onto Knock Murton with great views. A good bag of 9. | BURGESS | 12/06/2021 |
Parked at Maggie's Bridge. Burnbank Fell, Owsen Fell, Carling Knott, Loweswater End - Carling Knott, Blake Fell, Sharp Knott & Knock Murton. Back via High Pen and path above Highnook Beck. | CJM | 07/05/2021 |

Started from Dockray Meadow caravan site, up past Cogra Moss, up through the forest and approached the summit from the SE.

Kelton, Godworth, Banna Fell, Banna Fell East Top, Floutern, Gavel then High Nook on Gavel, High Pen, Low Pen, Knock Merton and Kelton Fell Top. 9 mile circuit with main objective to get Knock Merton to complete our Fellrangers in 2018 - just 3pm on last day. | nickywood1 | 31/12/2018 |
Ascended after competing in a nearby orienteering event. A fine hill on a clear November day with an excellent summit view. | JohnW | 25/11/2018 |

From the T-junction (NY 0872 1818), parking for 3-4 cars. Pleasant walk up over Harris Side. Steep descent on a near enough direct route to Godworth. The conifer plantation easy to negotiate. | jonglew | 17/03/2018 |
From Kelton Fell and NE ridge(ish). Beautiful golden sunshine, High Stile and winter Pillar from unfamiliar angle. Just got down at sunset. Picked up my rucksack from Godworth then back over High Pen and took the awesome path that clings to the SW flank of Blake Fell, round the forested coombe, Knock Murton now sillhoutted against the sunset. Then trudged through the frozen sponge back to the path over Burnbank, descending in the dark. Super walk. 5.5 hours | Wycombe Wanderer | 07/01/2018 |
Excellent little fell and a nice walk all the way from Felldyke; minor deviations over less steep ground and away from forest fence on way back gave pleasant variation. Seemingly popular with locals. With Pete. Showers died out as we climbed; interesting views of Ennerdale and Buttermere fells, Isle of Man could be made out. | pwheeler | 30/09/2017 |
Road - Bowness Knott - Brown How - Great Borne - Herdus - Gavel Fell - High, Low Pen - Godworth - Kelton Fell - Knock Murton - High Hows - Owsen Fell - Burnbank Fell - Carling Knott - Loweswater End - Loweswater. NOTE: The path down through the trees on the ESE slope is perfectly in evidence and not overgrown but is very steep and muddy and unbelievably slippery after rain. | Mark Jackson | 15/08/2017 |
Very wet morning but seemed to be abating. Trouble finding ascending path through forest. Extremely steep and slithery but made it to summit in a squall of rain. Very low cloud so after short stay in bothy followed easier path to car-drenched! | Peak Rambler | 14/08/2017 |
Veryhappybunny | 03/08/2017 | |
An overfull car park by 10.00 at Felldyke meant parking on the road in the village. Nice climb up thorough cross leaved heath, cowberry etc Nice signs of low grazing pressure. Waighwrights well built shelter was pleasantly still in great shape. Followed the descent directly down to the conifers, absurdly steep, and continuing through an s shaped path through the trees to the top of Donkey trod. Lovely little hill. | Karmakarl | 02/04/2017 |

From Felldyke a round of Murton Fell, Kelton Fell, Godworth, Low Pen, High Pen, Sharp Knott, Owsen Fell and High Hows. | rhalstead | 28/12/2015 |
After Low Pen reach track and turn right and immediately find a widening cum parking area. A small track leads downhill towards Cogra Moss but do not follow it down rather look for a small but distinct way up through the trees; rather like a tiny fire break going up dead straight to come up against a fence and the open fell above. Cross the fence and follow the continuation path which is well worn but steep. This leads to the fine summit with cairns and a shelter. | iredale | 18/10/2015 |
Super Fell!
From Felldyke, ascent from NW side (follow paths round edge of cut forest). Descent by steep east side, small path. This enters forest if you climb the 3ft fence but is very faint and forest is dense. I descended by edge of forest to the NE and through the corner to join the 'Pony Path' 50m below. This is steep and quite slippy on a muddy, heavily deer trod, tiny path and not recommended. The return by Cogra Moss is lovely though. | Nick Caunt | 16/09/2015 |
From end of track at Harris Side. Seems I'd been here years ago: you know all those old misty summit photos that you have, and haven't a clue where they were taken? Well now I know... | Aye Jimmy | 30/07/2015 |

On my own, parked at Felldyke and walked round Cogra Moss. There is a path just before you reach the high forest road which goes to the top, I missed it and walked long way round, heading to Blake Fell. Low cloud. | alwaysinshorts | 06/12/2014 |

On a circuit which included Low Penn, High Penn, Gavel Fell (W top), Carling Knott, Blake Fell, Burnbank Fell and Owsen Fell. Fine day with good views. Knock Murton was a stiff pull up from the lake once the felled conifer plantation had been crossed. | signyred | 25/07/2014 |

A steep little beggar (from Cogra Moss) | moorsman | 24/06/2013 |
Easy parking at beginning of track at Harris Side. Immediately after the second gate there is a good path then a smaller path that goes all the way to where the other route leaves the forest at a small stile. Then narrow path in heather to top. | destaylor | 26/07/2012 |
Be aware: very gruelling, albeit brief, ascent from Cogra Moss! | Didi Gee | 14/07/2012 |
From Fellside, via Dockray Nook, ignoring signs 'walkers keep out', cut up Owsen, along to Burnbank Fell, before swinging round to Sharp Knott and down to High Hows and Congra Moss.
