After the morning kayaking on Rydal water it was good to get a different perspective from above. We took a man path from the caves which are also worth a visit to the trig - first local stone trig bagged and a fine specimen too. As per Wainwright/Jesty's LF10. I've no idea why AW says you have to approach the parking place from the north - you don't. Also the slanting path to the left 150 yards beyond the gate isn't there. We spent ages looking for it and the way up. The fell was swarming with folk, most seemingly aimlessly wandering the many paths but the best way up to the summit wasn't apparent. Turned out to be a long, unenjoyable walk with little reward at the end - bah! | David S. | 01/09/2014 |

Our first fell following Wainwright's pictorial guides. Starting from our B&B on the far side of Rydal Water, we followed the route up the East side to the summit. Not a very pleasant day to be out on the fells, as anyone who happened to be up there would know....very gloomy, very damp and very limited visibility. But, that aside, being on the fells is tons better than being stuck at work or watching some reality TV show, so we should be glad of small mercy's! Nice to have another central fell top in the "bag". After reaching the summit it was back to Pelter Bridge and the warmth of the car, and then a steady drive home. | jcb1705 | 16/12/2012 |

The nearest spot to park I could find was at NY 34559 04004 where there is space for a few cars. Gentle walk around the north of the tarn and then a steep ascent straight up a good path to the ridge just east of the trig point, taking 40 minutes to the top. Back to the car in 1hr 10min total. Wet and windy. | martin_hall | 07/11/2012 |
