Straight up and down and not much to say about the fell. nice views out to sea and nice farmer fields to the north. after this we headed to Gosforth for a night out in the lion and lamb and stopping in the Globe inn. got ratted and took a pizza back to the room. next day drove to Grasmere for some Gingerbread and had a Sunday dinner in the Plough in Lupton, before monging out with sweets at homeScotty 2 Hotty03/02/2024

From the cattle grid. Quick up and down with Jerry.RowanP14/04/2023
After a 6 mile up and back from stakes bridge to Ponsonby Fell I drove to the parking area by the cattle grids as mentioned by others. From the cattle grids it was a straight shot directly to the tiny little cairn at the HP. Descended to the boundary wall and back to the road. 1.3 miles in just under 40 minutes. With boris.ytfckent06/02/2023
from road junction to NW. There is a small cairn at the probable toptrimarc211/02/2022

Cold Fell from Cold Fell Gate. Quick up and down in 30 minutes. Could be a good seascape, if not so hazy. (S)silveracorn_alan29/08/2021

From Stakes Bridge: Inn Fell, Ponsonby Fell, Stone Pike, Swainson Knott and Cold fell. Great views to Isle of man and Scotland, clear day. Staying at RavenglassLazylizzie01/05/2021
Simple easy stroll up from car park at road junction. Excellent views over the entire coast line (and Sellafield). Would be great on a hot day but today it was seriously wet and cold! Make sure you go to the Monks Bridge just to the north as it is well worth seeing.Nick11/09/2020
Walk 41 of AW's Outlying Fells. Recommend visiting Matty Benn's Bridge as the author suggested.James McKnight21/07/2020

From cattle grid parking area NNW of summit. Indistinct high point. There were a couple of stones and a sheep's skull where someone else seems to have thought was the top, but was not convinced so wandered about. Others may wish to check levels and if appropriate add stones to make it more visible.ijpowell23/05/2019
Straight up and down from road adjacent at cattle grid.Never saw a thing total clag.jocks128/12/2018
AW's outlier from the parking area at Stakes bridge on the river Calder as this was the car park used for Ponsonby fell, but there is a parking area at the base of Cold fell for a easy walk up to the summit.WAYNE ROWLETT16/09/2018

From parking area to N (NY 0556 1010). Took RoW SE until it veered off E then took a direct line across a mixed cattle/sheep pasture. Flat top, HP not obvious.jonglew14/07/2018
Parked at Beckermet with my truck and a couple of hours to spare, so off came the bike and a ride up through Haile, a quick hike up the fell and a lovely ride back down via Calder Bridge back to Beckermet.Chipstertrain03/06/2018
A short jaunt from Cold Fell Gate. A herd of cows was ensconced almost on the high point, but not quite, so no stand off ensued.Nick Down113/05/2018

Quick circuit from Cold Fell gateAjm031006/11/2017
Walked from Coldfield gate on my own. Weather was just clearing after rain. Not the most exciting fell but it was my last of Wainwright's Outlying fells.flockwatcher05/09/2017
WOs 49,50 and 51. Bs 49,50 and 51. From base at Gosforth drove first to Cold Fell and up and down by Ws route. Then did Swarth Fell and Burn Edge from a bit further along the road. Parked next at sharp right bend where track goes off to the east just below Blakeley Raise and quickly up and down. Finally down track and steep hillside through pathless shoulder high bracken to Nannycatch Gate and up incredibly steep grass slope onto Dent, easy forest track down to below Flat Fell and over it back to the road and the car - exhausting but dry and good views.BURGESS29/07/2017

Parked due W on high point of road. Hill summit marked by single stone, however Wainwright's top possibly marked by an old cairn at 05813,09201 concealed from view by a large and dense patch of reeds/marsh grass - see Nick Caunt's commentCrib Goch04/06/2016

The Higher small mound referred to by Wainwright and Tony Hartry II is in a clump of marsh grass. It is a very indistinct tiny bump, but there is a mossy cairn of about 10 stones next to it. These can only be seen if you enter the marsh grass patch.Nick Caunt16/09/2015
As others from north.David Gradwell27/08/2015
Round from No 30 bus terminus in Thornhill, down to Calder Bridge, Ponsonby Fell (what a name), Stone Pike (for what it's worth), Swainson Knott, Cold Fell and down to the bus stop just in Egremont. Sultry morning running through marshes left by last night's thunderstorms. Sun comes out when boarding the bus home.Eddie04/07/2015
